The Sound Of Fred Thompson Bouncing

Some reactions to Fred’s performance in the debate last night from around the media, courtesy of the Thompson campaign:

“Could that be the sound of Thompson bouncing?” (Slate.com, 01/10)

“Fred was on a roll.” (Politico.com, 01/10)

“Fred drops a daisy cutter on Huck.” (Politico.com, 01/10)

“Thompson Roars…Mr. Thompson comes in swiftly and sharply to this discussion and blasts Mr. Huckabee.” (New York Times Blog, 01/10)

“Fred Thompson came to play tonight… he’s scoring some points tonight.” (ABCnews.com 01/10)

“Thompson took off after Huckabee.” (USAtoday.com, 01/10)

“Mr. Thompson is out-toughing his rivals tonight on illegal immigration.” (New York Times Blog, 01/10)

“He’s laying the smack down, that’s for sure. Fred is about South Carolina, and made it clear who his target is.” (msnbc.msn.com, 01/10)

“Mr. Thompson draws the biggest applause of the night so far with his litany of accusations against Mr. Huckabee, including the charge that he is basically a Democrat.” (New York Times Blog, 01/10)

“This is a fine, fine performance by Fred Thompson.” (ABCnews.com 01/10)

“Thompson Goes After Huck…Thompson’s offensive gets audience cheers.” (TheAtlantic.com, 01/10)

“The guy is showing himself, of late, to be a fairly decent debater. This little rant against Huckabee was strong.” (msnbc.msn.com, 01/10)

Fox News had tonight’s debate winner as…Ron Paul, but Fred showed a strong second place winning.  And since Paul’s rather zealous supporters are notorious for “stuffing the box” on polls like this one, it’s pretty fair to say that it was Fred’s night.

This is the momentum Fred needs to win South Carolina, which he still needs to do if he’s going to continue in the race.

To that end, contribute some money to Fred’s campaign.  The GOP can have a consensus candidate yet.

Uh, yeah.  But would it matter if he did?  Or are you the sort of superficial person who picks their candidate based on how they look on television?

The “Basement Brigade” did not fail Ron Paul! Even though he seldom polls above single digits, even though he has no delegates to the convention, even though the live audience unanimously thought he lost the debate (at least he didn’t get booed this time!), still Ron Paul’s electronic minions managed to spam the poll and give him victory in the Fox poll.
I noticed early on, he had 35% of the vote. Maybe it was past their bedtime when the poll closed and some of the adults did a little catching up?
I noticed among the real candidates, Thompson came in first. This tracks with the live focus group they had on.

Ron Paul’s supporters are a small group making a lot of noise. This behavior is typical of liberals and “anti-war” weenies.

I like Fred Thompson and his views a lot.  But unless a miracle occurs, the only sound from his ‘bounce’ will be a big, soggy thud. He has lolled his way through this campaign since last August when he was virtually the last candidate to toss his hat in the ring. A few snappy debate appearances do not make up for months of inactivity. One wonders if this is how he would guide the nation from the White House. Fred needs to demonstrate vigor, passion and effectiveness if he wants to capture more than just the die-hard conservative base. My money is on John McCain.

Romney criticizes the other candidates on their positions - “He is mean and negative!”.

Thompson criticizes the other candidates on their positions - “He is a hero of the right!”.

Glad Fred did well.  I even expect a 500% increase on his NH turnout as a result.  That means he will rocket from 1% to a commanding 5%!

Who won the debate?” FRED!  “Will you vote for him?” NO.  “Why?” TOO LATE…

Unfortunately for your denial, the first question wasn’t “who won the debate?” It was, “Who did your support switch to from the debate?”

Who are you in the real world Bill? As Colmes tried to pry the same spin out of Luntz and it didn’t work with him either, where Luntz isn’t nearly as smart as we are.

Both Thompson and McCain did well last night. It was a pleasure listening to Fred. I wish he had this fire in his belly in the earlier debates. None the less, I hope it holds for him.

I wonder how many Ron Paul votes came from Democrats looking to skew the results?

Yawn. Fred entered at the beginning of when candidates have historically entered the race in the fall…those who enter before then either have something to hide or have the completely wrong ambition to be president AND/OR both. Any questions??

Fred’s “inactivity” included providing the first detailed illegal immigration policy and Flat tax plan which some had the gall to come afterwards to duplicate. Fred spelled out what conservative principles are while the others were reinventing themselves to act and sound like conservatives…we prefer the real deal. Therefore, no one wonders about consistency, however, it would certainly be a silly wild ass guess if any of the others pandered their way in.

The conservative base is the republican voting block where we’ll just keep his clear effectiveness and you can have the nonsense of vigor and passion of snake-oil salesmen and con artists of the RINO’s just like McCain.

When you’ve figured out you need to know a whole lot more than you do start at Fred’s official site to see what I’ve already told you and much more then come back here and hit the list;

Romney is a northeast liberal Democrat. You repackaging him as the great conservative hope is BS.

Listened to Fred on radio and satellite yesterday, he hammered along on the solid points. No glitz&glamor, no self-aggrandizing, no scaremongering. Laid out his policy positions and made clear his stance on issues. And repeated a point that is resonating with people. The Presidential Election is about America, not about who looks prettiest or has the smoothest line of crap to feed the TV.

I wish he had this fire in his belly in the earlier debates.

There was no fire in his belly last night at all. The man said what he has always said and people finally caught on. The difference being more informed voters with a much better idea of what they should be looking for in a president.

Unfortunately, so does one of the Republicans. Huckabee has explained the violence in the middle East in terms of high school. “We’re just the mean ol’ jock who pushes everyone around.”

It’s all political bullshit. Liberals (and Robert108) lie and spin and twist and obscure and distract and cheat to protect their guys and hurt the opposing team. It’s like wrestling. They distract the ref while their team mate hits you with a chair. There’s no rule they won’t break, no law they won’t skirt, no crime they won’t forgive as long as they can win.

Kenny on January 11, 2008 at 08:17 am

If Thomson keeps this up you’ll begin to see a media blitz against him. They’ve largely left him alone so far because they haven’t perceived him as a threat.

If he keeps on the way he did last night he’ll become a threat to the Dems and therefore the left and therefore the media.

They’ll start to play dogpile-on-the-rabbit if they think he can beat either Barak or Obama in November.

Watch.

Jimmy Carter, huh?

Let’s see… raise taxes, choke off economic growth, increase unemployment, rising gas and heating oil prices, choke off more economic growth, increase regulation of business, increase interest rates, cut off more economic growth…

Yup, that sure is some plan for success!

Winghunter: “Any Questions?” Yeah. Where did you come up with the ridiculous notion that “candidates have historically entered the race in the fall… unless they have something to hide”?? Yawn. Looks like you really need to do your homework. Suggestion: instead of feverishly pontificating your little attack pieces, try reading and thinking  about what others have to say… like this fact: Other than a few TV debates, Fred Thompson has simply been off the radar-screen since early November. He is a great - but unknown - candidate. Frankly after his stellar performance last night, I hope he steamrolls right to the top. He finally said what many of us have been waiting for for months. It just may be too late.

rbb,
That rundown of the Republican debate is infinetely more interesting than the dem debates where all you hear is:

“more programs”

“more government”

“more revenue

The left had all that human diversity represented, and not one iota of diversity of ideas.

Yawn. Like I’ve said before, the memory of JFK’s “ask not what your country…” speech and ideas is long dead in the democrat party.

Going into SC the Big Mo will be with whoever wins Michigan.  The second place finisher there will have the Lil’ Mo. i.e. Fred Thompson: No Chance of finishing first second or even third in Michigan, means no chance of finishing first in South Carolina, which has it primary after just three campaigning days from the winner of Michigan been crowned.

Pil, you said it right. The only way Obama does not get the nomination is if Hillary succeeds in her attempts to have him knocked off. The ballot. Like she had Vince knocked off, the ballot.

PP, he has been saying exactly the same things since before he declared, declared in the normal time frame of Presidential Primary campaigns. You honestly do not remember the hue and cry about everyone starting so early? It was all anyone talked about for the first month of this dog&pony show. Historically, Presidential candidates do not declare until the late summer/fall before the actual Presidential Election. This has been the earliest start, and was ballyhooed as such by all the pundits and talkingheads for weeks on end. Remember? It happened about a year ago? Everyone screeching amd moaning about how long this primary season was going to be because so many started so fucking early? Hello?

2Hotel9: You forgot the last part of winghunter’s mot: “.... unless they have something to hide.” Which, had you read my response carefully, was what I was refering to when I asked, “where did you get that ridiculous idea?” Traditionally, when there is no incumbent and large numbers of candidates from both parties, candidates often start in mid or even early summer. And this year, for better or for worse, Fred Thompson got in last.  Hello??
