The Right Shouldn’t Do To Obama What The Left Did To Bush

I’m getting a ton of emails today about some pretty silly stories.
Like some alleged media conspiracy to cover up the fact that Obama asked for Dijon mustard with his hamburger yesterday. And Michelle Obama wearing a dress to the UN that she’s worn once before.
Now, I dislike Barack Obama. I think he’s a terrible President, an inept leader, and the negative impact of the policies he’s already implemented in his first 100+ days are doing to be with us for decades. But given that he already enjoys the protection and empathy of a friendly press corps full of liberals who largely agree with his policies, dinging Obama and the people around him with stories like these is a waste of time.
We can laugh at his endless teleprompter gaffes. We can laugh at all the foolish little mistakes Obama and his people are going to make in general. But there’s a line between humor/parody and outright pettiness.
Let’s not let the opposition to Obama devolve into the sort of outright hatred we saw aimed at President Bush.

What bullshit history books have you been reading?

The kind you don’t color in. Probably why you haven’t seen any! The Nazis believed the State should control everything. Much like their modern counterparts do!

    8. Use of scapegoats (Jews Commies, Liberals Mexicans Homosexuals)
    9. Contempt for Democracy and the Rule of Law (“A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier…” –Bush)

You never saw anything like that when Bush was selected.

  • Man Train

One of the most popular Right-Wing arguments against the ACLU is one case where they defended a member of NAMBLA.

The essential factoids Right-Wing Authoritarians forget(?) (selective cognition) about this case is that the ACLU was not defending or promoting “the right to molest children”. What they were indeed defending was the First Amendment. The defendant wrote material on how to molest children. This ideas in his publication were later used by an individual who had no personal connection to the author. Using the ideas found in the defendant’s publication lead to a crime that resulted in the murder of a child.

The court case was an attempt to implicate partial responsibility of the defendant for the death of the child. The case was dismissed because the defendant was not personally involved with the murder of the child and any attempt to link the independent actions of individuals with the ideas of an author violates the First Amendment.

Right-Wingers do not view that case as defending the Constitution. They view it as a failure of an amoral criminal justice system. Right-Wing “reasoning” (knee-jerk visceral/emotional reactionism) to leads to the idea that both the author and the murderer should rot in jail, regardless of the author’s lack of involvement with the murder itself.

Lets look at this from another perspective:

Do you remember Jim David Adkisson? He murdered 1 person and injured 8 others in his rampage against “Liberalism” in a Unitarian church in Knoxville, TN last summer. Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church was no ordinary church. As Bill Moyers said,

“The church advocates social justice and tolerance, and it openly welcomes gay, lesbian, and transgendered members.”

The authorities found Right-Wing books such as Michael Savage’s “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder” and Sean Hannity’s “Let Freedom Ring” who both openly demonize, dehumanize, and brand Liberals as “the Enemy within” in their false dichotomous world view, thus justifying any violent acts committed against Liberals.

By all means Hannity, Savage, Coulter and the rest of the Right-Wing media are equally responsible for the murder and injuries of the Unitarian church members as the pedophile author in the case above.

    So I ask this:
Why the double standard? If an author is responsible for the actions of individual in one case shouldn’t the precedence follow for all other cases where authors influence the actions of individuals?

  • Man Train

He’d rather be ignorant than wrong.

I know you do as well.
    Believe in something.
    Even if it’s wrong.

(“Glenn Beck,” Fox News, March 11, 2009)

Holy shit, how dumb is that? I think we’ve have found one mantra that shows us how Conservatives wind up with all those fallacies they carry around, other than the intentional misinformation (lies) they receive from Fox News. Or is it that Glenn Beck is just really fucking stupid?

I agree – if criticism and ridicule are called for, all’s fair. But devolving into the reflexive garbage we saw during the eight years of Bush’s presidency is uncalled for and only serves to make conservatives look as small-minded and intolerant as those on the left. I think a good bit of the criticism leveled at Bush was deserved, particulalry on fiscal policy, but some of the lunacy was so over the top it just got tiresome. I believe that much of the criticism of Obama and his policies is valid, but continual sniping and conspiracy nonesense will wear thin very fast.

  • Man Train

America is not a censorious place, but if a lightning bolt were to come out of the sky and absolutely obliterate the Fox News studios, I would weep no tears. Uh huh…

I was telling a younger friend of mine (a bio major at the state school) about that exact Conservative meme just the other day. He was dumbfounded at the stupidity of that statement. He also noted that Conservatives like to express the opposite of conventional wisdom and fact and call it “Truth”. Why is that? Can you tell me? Is there something wrong with the Conservative thinking process?

He was also telling me about his college roommate at UMass Amherst. His roommate considers himself a Conservative and is part of the Republican club on campus. He was telling me about how the Republican club attracts psychos and assholes. For instance, this one dude in the club has several restraining orders out and was accused of rape by his ex-girlfriend. A really nice fella… One guy I personally met from the club was 100% racist. I couldn’t tell if he was joking or not, but he would not shut-up about how “blacks aren’t even human.” Fucking psychos. And the one time the club tried to eat at a restaurant, when it was finally time to pay the bill they came $50 short because some assholes with overinflated senses of self-importance and feelings of deserving decided to skip out without paying. Fucking assholes.

And the roommate himself, he’s a good kid and all, but he has this really fucked up mentality. He’s always complaining and outraged (this is what Conservative talk radio and TV sells, outrage) over something that is reverberating in the Right-Wing echo chamber (Liberals, Obama, the Fed) and he’s unbelievability socially awkward. And even though he lives on campus he is never there. People are always asking where he is… He isn’t invited to parties, he is not very smart and he gets poor grades (Computer Science) and hates all the classes everyone else loves (they’re too “Liberal”). And even though he complains ALL THE TIME and is socially awkward he is still likable and he does good things for people, even though he thinks everybody else is a “Jackass”.

I find it really sad to see what Conservatism has done to a good kid who may yet have great potential… So it goes, I guess.

Anyway, why should Conservatives let other give them a bad name when they do such a good job all by their little selves.

Since the early 50s Nazism/Fascism has been identified as being Far-Right (right-wing extremists) totalitarianism.

Your ignorance of the fact that the English translation of the full name of the Nazi Party in Germany(which is from your list, btw) is actually the National Socialist Party. National socialism is exactly what Obama is trying to institute in this country, with his nationalizing the business sector, starting with the banks, continuing to the auto industry, and aiming for the healthcare industry, and so on, and so forth.
In your ignorance, you unconsciously reveal the truth that you lefties are really fascists, even though you lie about being liberal or progressive. In fact, real liberals and progressives support individual independence, and you guys want all powerful central govt.
BTW, “national” in German is “Nazional”, which is where the term “Nazi” came from.
Like Obama, Hitler controlled the major industries in his time as the ruler of Germany, just like Obama is trying to do now, and he is using many of the same arguments for his actions.

More evidence that you leftie fascists are unAmerican, with your lust to censor and smear everyone who reveals the truth behind your lies.

You must watch Fox News. Thanks to the Constitution and various court cases Fox News does not need to be accountable for their lies. Also, there are no liable laws in the US which makes their mass-marketed misinformation operation (brainwashing) much easier.

Journalists Jane Akre and Steve Wilson were fired by the Fox News television station they work for after refusing to change their investigative report on Posilac, a Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH) made by Monsanto. Their research documents potential health and safety problems of drinking milk treated with the synthetic hormone, but threatened with legal action from Monsanto, Fox wants the negative effects played down. The court eventually throws out Akre’s whistle blower lawsuit after deciding that the media is allowed to lie.

They’ve been humiliated by their election losses. And that’s hugely dangerous, because authoritarian leaders react uniquely badly to being humiliated.

Experts tell us that their huge egos and insatiable need for control make them very brittle — and that the shattering point is often a specific event that publicly repudiates their authority, or makes it obvious to the world and their followers that they are no longer in control. Decisively losing both the White House and the Congress has been all that and then some.

This overweening humiliation is growing every day that the Democrats and their new president stay in power. It’s a pain that will not go away, and it’s likely to curdle into something far more venomous in time.

The result, unfortunately, is probably going to be more violent attacks on government authority like the one in Pittsburgh last month.

    Hey “DINO”-

You are a lib who spends all his time on a popular conservative blog… and jump on every thread early and often with a bunch of snarky drivel. Do you have a job, or are you counting on Uncle Bam to take care of you?

Steer the topic. Change the subject. Deflect and divert.

It’s sure hard to avoid the conclusion that there are organized trolls attempting to hijack and control all internet debate to maintain momentum for The One as he rams-through an ultra-liberal agenda while also focused on 2010… and 2012.

Explains all the facsination with Palin and Jindal… if they’re so silly and irrelevant, why the obsession? And it’s not difficult to see why the Democrats might prefer to banter playfully about made-up GOP “scandals” and irrelevancies like Meghan McCain’s latest bit than debate Obama’s ongoing destruction of the country.

They likely have assignments, like a crew on Politico, one on Topix, and solos like yourself on specific blogs. It’s not like it’s not obvious… why else would you spend all your time on a “con” blog… and try to dominate it? And you stick to the party attack-line 99%.

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe has admitted that there is such a web-based effort in support of Obama… he runs it… and it’s funded by the DNC:

“David Plouffe, who ran Obama’s campaign, now runs “Organizing for America” out of the DNC. It uses the same Web-based tactics that won the presidency to mobilize public opinion behind Obama’s initiatives.”

It is well known that this strategy involves trolls like yourself who attempt to disrupt any constructive debate on conservative boards… and thus we are blessed with your presence.

But employing such a manipulation on blogs and message-boards serepticiously is really not clever, slick, or anything to be proud of… rather, it’s underhanded, cowardly, and ethically dubious.

If Obama’s wisdom and moral supremacy are so self-evident, then what’s all this thought-control and propaganda for?

  • Stewartized

Far left domestic terrorism has been going on since the extreme lefties violently took over the Dem National Convention in 1968, and has continued to increase since then, to the extent that they have taken over the Dem Party, which is not extreme far left, with Dem politicians regularly making Marxist and fascist pronouncements in the media.

    Liberal fascism = Oxymoron

There’s been a quantum leap in the sheer down-the-rabbit-hole surreality of their beliefs about the world. Bloggers have been pointing out for years that conservatives have zero compunction about making shit up; but in the past, their prevarications were almost always built around a kernel of fact, wrapped in thick layers of distortion, mis-attribution or lies of omission.

What’s new in the past 100 days is that we’re now seeing stories that are just flat-out fabulation, without even so much as a nod to reality. They’re not even bothering to try to attach these claims to any kind of truth. Their fantasies are so much truthier to them.

Up is down. Black is white. Obama’s not a citizen, he’s going to take our guns, Congress is about to legalize incest … this we believe, and there is no expert and no amount of real-world evidence that can ever convince us otherwise.

The right wing’s retreat from consensus reality has finally left it living in an Orwellian alternative universe all its own.

After starting the engine (15) Joe backs out of the driveway and heads to The Big City (16) While he is driving, he enjoys the smooth road and gently rolling hills with its forests and meadows (17)(18).

    12. No doubt the pharmaceutical company that created the drug used large amounts of “pure” scientific research that was funded by the government through universities, research often considered worthless as it has no immediate practical application. The effectiveness and purity of the drug was assured by the Food and Drug Administration. Two.
    13. The FDA likewise mandates all food to be labeled so that Joe can make informed decisions and avoid foods harmful to his health.
    14. Unfortunately, the government could not prevent Joe from making horrible fashion mistakes. However, mandatory information on tags of his shirts and pants told him that he could not just throw those wool pants into the washing machine. So he takes them to the local dry cleaner, whose use of carcinogenic “perc” is highly regulated so that it doesn’t get into the air and water. (Even though a lot has prior to environmental awareness.) Two.
    15. Joe’s engine started because the quality of the gasoline is tightly regulated. It is also lead free thanks to the necessity of pollution control’s strict diet. He also paid for ten gallons yesterday and he got ten gallons. Two.
    15. No cars were driving on the left side of the road that morning, his headlights were at a proper height and aim, and he knew that he should stop at stop signs and follow the rules of the road. All of this “non-event” is due to enforced state motor vehicle laws. A BIG one.
    17. Joe’s gasoline purchase included taxes to build and repair the safe roads that he used.
    18. What Joe did not know is the bucolic scenery he enjoyed every day was once stripped of all trees, overgrazed, and caused a major flood. The CCC built flood control dams, planted trees and grasses, and other agencies bought the land which never should have been farmed in the first place. (Based on a true story from Elbert County, Colorado.)

At the office, Joe got on the elevator and was whisked to the thirtieth floor (19). He stopped by the mailroom and found his paycheck direct deposit receipt. Opening the envelope, he sighed again when he saw the mandatory deductions: Federal and State taxes, Social Security contribution, and Medicare. He walked to his desk, and as he did every day because he was A Good Son, called Mom.

    “Hi, Mom.”
“All is well. Well, almost. I just get so tired of all of these taxes. Why, I don’t work for myself, I work for the government!” (As you will see, he was more correct than he thought.)
“Did the doctor (20) figure out what was wrong? …… Good. Will Medicare (21) cover all of it, or do you need some money?” (I told you, he is A Good Son!)
“Yeah, I know, Dad’s (22) pension (23) didn’t leave you much, but with Social Security (24) and what Bud and I are willing to chip in, you’ll always have money for bingo, mom!” They both laughed.

    19. Elevators are inherently unsafe, yet they are safe due to oversight and regulations.
    20. The doctor, the nurses, and all of the medical professionals had to meet strict educational and practical standards. Joe’s mother could reasonably expect, and got, quality medical care because of those regulations.
    21. Medicare! It was only a generation ago that many seniors weighed whether to eat or see a doctor. Fought by the AMA as “socialized medicine”, the medical community discovered this was a whole new income stream! Don’t all Americans deserve as much? Oh yes, administrative costs are about 9% of the total cost. Private plans run about 25%. Government inefficiency?
    22. Dad was a public school teacher, a tax supported vocation. Joe benefited from this.
    23. Dad’s pension was strictly controlled as to the investments, oversight, and then making sure that payments to his widow are made reliably.
    24. Social Security! The other biggie. While SS has its problems and is barely adequate for many, it is the foundation that prevents many seniors from begging on the streets. Or living with the kids!

Joe has been up for a just a few hours and hasn’t even started his work day (Mom wanted to talk awhile.) In this short time frame, Joe did not have to worry about many matters of health and finance. He just took the lack of need to attend to these matters as a given. And, indeed, they were given to Americans by Progressive laws and regulations.

Thirty seven easy to identify ways Joe’s life was made good by these laws!

During the course of the day, Joe’s life was helped in many more ways that his bias prevented him from seeing:

Define “Real American” and “American Values”.

I have done this thousands of times on SAB, but here they are again:

Living according to the Constitution and the founding principles.
Living as independent individuals willing to share our energies and talents cooperatively, without surrendering to mindless collectivism.
    Personal freedom
    Economic freedom
    Religious freedom
    Political freedom
Creating wealth for all who wish to participate through the free enterprise system
Cooperating to support the truly needy, by using means testing

Real Americans live by those values and principles.

You can’t because you can only communicate those kinds of ideas to those who have undergone similar indoctrination processes as you have.

Whoops! You lied twice there. Learning the Constitution and real American History is not “indoctrination” like what now goes on in govt schools. It’s you leftie fascists who are trying to take over this country through turning education into leftie indoctrination.

  • Hannitized

It’s you leftie fascists who are trying to take over this country through turning education into leftie indoctrination.

Pedagogy attracts Liberal types. It is no surprise that the pursuit of giving children an equal chance of success in the modern world, especially when Conservative types want to keep education away from children in general. Conservative do not care about other people’s children unless it serves as a political divisive issue for amassing votes for Authoritarian Leaders, abortion for instance. In the mind of a conservative once the kid is born he or she can go fuck themselves. Just look at Conservative policy in regards to child welfare. Conservatives are consistently inconsistent and contradictory at best.

Also, the more educated a person is the more likely a person is able to think critically. This is why many arcane and medieval traditionalist institutions are becoming extinct, religion for instance. When smart kids start thinking they realize what incredible bullshit surrounds them. This is no act of the educators but the act of the children thinking for themselves.

A day in the life of a conservative American…….

Joe flipped on the lights in the pre-dawn dark. He wouldn’t have any lights(1), of course, if it wasn’t for the TVA(2) that supplied electricity to his home which was wired many years ago (3)as a result of bringing electricity and telephones to rural America(4).

He put coffee into the filter(5), poured water into the coffee maker (6) slipped some bacon into a frying pan(7), turned on the gas(8), and got a couple of eggs from the fridge(9). While he was waiting for the coffee he decided to catch the morning radio show (10) then went to the bathroom where he did what most people do in the morning(11).

    1. Regulations govern the voltage and frequency of the electricity, the safety of the delivery system and the appliances, the rates that can be charged, the recourses available as a citizen if the utility doesn’t perform properly. Four items and the guy’s feet haven’t even hit the floor!
    2. The TVA also made the Tennessee River navigable, besides supplying electricity. Two.
    3. Building codes make sure that the electrical wiring is correctly engineered and installed.
    4. Beats oil lamps and tin cans on strings. Thank you, FDR. Two.
    5. The coffee made it to Joe’s table because of international trade laws, fair weights and measures, and federal trucking regulations. Three.
    6. The water was safe to drink because of state and federal regulations.
    7. Joe paid for a pound of bacon and got a pound, not less. It was safe to eat, he would not get ill from it. Two.
    8. The gas was delivered safely and economically via a complex system of hardware and regulations. Two.
    9. The eggs were likewise of known quality and size. Two.
    10. The radio show came in without interference from other stations because of federal regulations allocating the frequencies available.

Joe hasn’t even gotten to the bathroom and his life has been positively influenced
by at least 20 areas of progressive policy and government regulations!

    11. See #3.

Joe plods back to the kitchen, fishes in the cabinet, and pulls out a few pill bottles. He takes his vitamins and his prescription drugs for high blood pressure (12). As a matter of curiosity, he looks on the tub of margarine to see how much sodium is in the spread (13). He sighs and decides to scramble his eggs today.

    Love of War

Like firing missiles into houses in Pakistan, eh? Let me share with you a quote from the Republican’s standard bearer in this last election:

Unless you are a veteran you might find it odd that I would be indebted to the Navy for sending me to war. You might mistakenly conclude that the secret veterans’ share is that they enjoyed war.

We do share a secret, but it is not a romantic remembrance of war. War is awful. When nations seek to resolve their differences by force of arms, a million tragedies ensue. Nothing, not the valor with which it is fought nor the nobility of the cause it serves, can glorify war. War is wretched beyond description. Whatever gains are secured by war, it is loss that the veteran remembers. Only a fool or a fraud sentimentalizes the cruel and merciless reality of war.

Neither do we share a nostalgia for the exhilaration of combat. That exhilaration, after all, is really the sensation of choking back fear. I think we are all proud to have once overcome the paralysis of terror. But few of us are so removed from the memory of that terror to mistake it today for a welcome thrill.

What we share is something harder to explain. It is in part a pride for having sacrificed together for a cause greater than our individual pursuits; pride for having your courage and honor tested and affirmed in a fearsome moment of history; pride for having replaced comfort and security with misery and deprivation and not been broken by the experience.

We also share–and this is harder to explain–the survivors’ humility. That’s a provocative statement, I know, and the non-veteran may easily mistake its meaning. I am not talking about shame. I know of no shame in surviving combat. But every combat veteran remembers those comrades whose sacrifice was eternal. Their loss taught us everything about tragedy and everything about duty.

-John McCain, Statement Before the Veterans of Foreign Wars

Quoted the last time I had to debunk some POS lefty who lied about conservatives loving war.

Someone should do a psychological study on the disconnect between the conservatives’ self-image and reality, and where that delusion originates.

    1. I agree; the KKK was a terrorist arm of the Dem Party in the later 19th Century and the first part of the 20th Century, whose purpose was to drive both black and white Republicans out of the South. They were successful until Ronald Reagan brought back equal representation for Republicans in the South.
None of this is relevant today, thanks to President Reagan.

    2. You mean homos who practice that sexual deviation? Our Constitution recognizes militias as part of free America, so your claims are false. Real Americans who favor Constitutionally mandated limited govt are real Americans, not “anti-govt”, so your premise is false here.

    3. Nazi Germany contained many of the elements Obama is trying to institute in our country today, including govt ownership and control of businesses. Real Americans aren’t “Nazis”, despite the constant leftie propaganda. Lefties, in their lust to control every aspect of life, are the real nazis.

    4. People who are exercising their Constitutionally guaranted right of free choice in media are not “extremists” or “right wing”; they are real Americans. Another fail for you.

    5. Conservatism is support and agreement with the Constitution and the founding principles of this country. Our Constitution is not “right wing”. Epic fail.

    6. If there were any “anti abortion terrorists“, I would agree, but there aren’t any of those. There have been only a few examples of individuals using violence against abortionists, and they were roundly condemned by the real Americans who want to stop the abortion holocaust. There have been no incidents since the one guy was caught. A non-issue.

    7. Since we have freedom of worship guaranteed in our Constitution, you are dead wrong again. In fact, your far left extremism wants to punish thoughts and beliefs, in typical fascist governance, where actual crimes are about illegal behavior. Freedom of worship is not illegal behavior. Your fascism is obvious here.

    8. You use a false claim for an event that never happened, so epic fail again. In fact, it is Obama who is violating our Constitution, almost on a daily basis.
There was no torture, nor was there any actual wiretapping, but your zeal to give aid and comfort to the Islamofascists who are trying to destroy us is noted as further proof of your fascism.

    More Liberal fascism.

Further separation: One of the watershed moments in the development of a religious or political radical group is the day they decide to go upcountry, building some sort of secluded retreat or community away from the prying eyes of the authorities.

The Aryan nations, the fundamentalist Mormons, Jim Jones … the list is long, because this is such a universal moment in the radicalization process. It’s also the next place the gears shift.

The American right is too big to just all go off into the woods together — but its obviously trying hard to retreat from the rest of us in other ways. The complete break with factual reality is one part of this. The growing talk of secession is another overt sign that it’s desperately looking for someplace to escape to.

Given that impulse, it’s very likely that land is already being quietly bought up and that some people are beginning to plan their moves to various locations around the country where they believe they’ll be safer.

It’s not unreasonable to expect that over the next year or two, we’ll start to hear about a new round of separatist compounds, and that a few states will become right-wing havens where secessionist talk will turn more serious.

This is a dangerous development. Groups that try to separate always claim that they’re retreating to “live in peace” — but too often, peace is about the last thing that results from this.

Goin’ up to the country is an overt declaration that the group believes that the mainstream culture is “out to get us,” and is now asserting its right to live outside the law. There’s an unquestioned conviction that the outside world means them harm — and that they must organize and arm themselves for the coming showdown.

The isolation also allows high-dominance leaders to concentrate their power over group members without any pesky social or legal recourse to fairness. Suspicion and dependency flourish. People learn that might makes right and come to accept violence as a natural and proper way to deal with conflict.

This is why law-enforcement groups consider the moment of physical retreat as sort of Rubicon beyond which the likelihood of violence increases dramatically. We should be very concerned that the right wing seems determined to go there.

I didn’t know “Library” was in the Conservative vocabulary. I know that “NASCAR”, “Beer” and “Nigger” is in the conservative vocab, but not “Library”. I learn something new about you guys every day. :) I’m surprised teabagger wasn’t in your collective vocabs…

Anyway, yeah… I used the Google search term “Margaret Sanger meme” and it turned up a very good point:

One quote that the pro-lifers wrongly accredit to Sanger is: “The mass of ignorant Negroes still breed carelessly and disastrously, so that the increase among Negroes, even more than the increase among whites, is from that portion of the population least intelligent and fit, and least able to rear their children properly.” This quote was actually made by NAACP founder W.E.B. Dubois. Let me make it clear. I am not writing this to promote eugenics or Margaret Sanger. What I am saying is that conservatives should not try to win debates by to tenuously tying their opponents to politically incorrect views held by people who died years ago. Virtually ever single prominent American before 1960 would be considered a racist by today’s standards.

MT: Please define who you think the “far right” is.
In addition, there are many far left terrorist groups, using environmentalism as an excuse for intimidation and violence against real Americans, day after day.
Telling the truth about Obama’s fascist takeover of this country is our Constitutional right to self-defense.

    Translation:
THE GOVERNMENT IS COMING TO GET YOU! IT IS TIME TO DEFEND YOURSELF AND REMOVE OUR ENEMIES BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!

It is this kind of rhetoric that the paranoid Right-Wing extremists believe. Read the article. They establish a dualism of Us-Vs-Them, Good-Vs-Evil, to dehumanize others. This justifies any future violence they will commit.

Rush Limbaugh is a clown who believes…

Name-calling… the last resort of the frustrated adolescent and the intellectually disabled.

As for “riding a marathon” Rush’s 20 year record and his unprecedented financial success (current contract: over $300 million) certainly put him head and shoulders above anything the “progressive” Left has to offer in rebuttal. Obviously, Limbaugh hasn’t floundered into oblivion by defrauding a Boys and Girls Club for the urban disadvantaged youths.

    2. Nazi Germany
    3. Fox News viewers

    5. Anti-Abortion terrorists
    6. Fundamentalist Christians (specifically those who subscribe to the diseased believe that we are living in end times; this allows for rampant amoral “ends justifies the means” mentality, all the lies on Fox News for instance)
    7. Those who watched Bush Jr. wipe his ass with the constitution (torture and warrantless eavesdropping for instance) and then in an epic bout of amnesia ironically call Obama a fascist.

    Obama’s from Hawaii, right?

The author had a good point. Without the progressive influence of the 1960s Civil Rights movement the language of what is acceptable would be quite different, and it was quite different before. For instance, nobody is accusing Conservatives of wanting to round people up for the purposes of extermination (yet). Since Hitler failed so miserably you guys have learned that genocide does not work. This is why you resort to ideological battles to impose your ideals rather than through forceful conflict (so far).

  • Hawk

I agree. Rob, you do your best to be honorable. No sense in becoming as ugly as the other side.

One of the most popular Right-Wing arguments against the ACLU is one case where they defended a member of NAMBLA.

Another lie from you. The ACLU has always been unpopular with real Americans due to the fact that its founder, Roger Baldwin, was a communist, and the ACLU defended communists in the Fifties and Sixties, and generally continue to support unAmerican values to this day. Their support of NAMBLA, on a phony “freedom” argument, just shows how far the ACLU is from real American values, but it’s far from the only instance.

Oh so we are supposed to believe your bullshit repot that you have linked. That web page is fucken joke… It’s basically making my argument that Liberal Fascism in on the move. Right again Rob. Carefully picking the battles that need to be fought and being perceived by the public as intellegent and above the pettiness that politics has become is a great start to the resurrection the GOP and regaining balance in our system.
The next step would be to advance a few smart ideas instead of simply obstructing. Even if these(so far unexpressed)ideas are not adopted by the current legislature, the rewards that civil intellegent discourse will pay in the long run far outweigh the short term petty emotional needs so many around here are wallowing in daily.
Hats off to Rob again! Strategic forthought is still alive!

They’re putting themselves in direct opposition to state power — and identifying that power as their primary enemy.

All groups headed for a violent confrontation eventually come to believe that their enemies are somehow aligned with the government — and the government is out to get them. Conservatives are coming up hard against this one now that they no longer control the government themselves. Back when they were gleefully dismantling the Constitution and building a surveillance state, it never occurred to them that they might someday be out of power.

Now, of course, they’re terrified to find all that unleashed, unaccountable power in the hands of Libruls and That Black Guy.

Weirdly, they seem to have almost total amnesia about their role in all this. To hear them tell it, Barack Obama seized all this power for himself in just the past three months. Given that epic memory failure, there’s not much hope that they’ll draw the right lessons from this reversal.

It’s far more likely that their newfound terror of government power will lead them to resent — and eventually overreact to — even casual encounters with government authority.

Let’s not let the opposition to Obama devolve into the sort of outright hatred we saw aimed at President Bush

    Too late.

Was that you phony self-rightous Prejean imitation?

  • http://suitepotato.blogspot.com/ sayanything-4808

My hatred is not for Obama, it’s for the talking heads and ideologues who took advantage of the current national psychological attention span and used it to accidentally create this standalone complex presidency where a man who was on every side of every issue and totally undefined was allowed to run in the minds of the people against a president who wasn’t even up for reelection.

Mass social phenomena are not just academic. It may be free speech to say the things they do about Bush and whatnot but the constant pounding of it, the barrage of it and the consistency of the message put us on track for this presidency with Obama.

We have very little chance of avoiding a similar phenomenon as the public is now after decades of this kind of politicking from the left (Nixon, Reagan, Bush) very receptive to it. The one thing working in favor of our honor on this is that the media is overwhelmingly left wing. If not, we could easily set up an Obama-Not Obama theme in the public mind.

Of course, they did that themselves with Carter with no help from the media which was cheerleading for that idiot despite the country wanting to run him out of Washington on a rail. We may see that sort of boomerang effect again.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

You will have to shut down your blog if you really believe this. Most of what you post about Obama is outright pettiness.

Not actually true, though I’m sure it’s convenient for you to dismiss valid criticism as pettiness. That way you don’t even have to engage the arguments.

  • http://suitepotato.blogspot.com/ sayanything-4808

    Reaganite Republican:

If Obama’s wisdom and moral supremacy are so self-evident, then what’s all this thought-control and propaganda for?

They know, and it scares them, that the only reason Obama was elected was because he was running against a president who wasn’t even up for reelection. NOT because the public agreed with Obama. Had Obama come out obviously in any unique way it would have resulted in more press just for the sensationalism. He was on every side of every issue and as insubstantial as Roseanne Barr’s willpower when presented with a box of Twinkies.

They desperately want people to like them, love them, think the world of them, look up to them, listen to them. They desperately want this election to be vindication of them. It’s not and it’s slipping away and that frightens them.

    But you knew that, right?
