The Rev. Jeremiah Wright Lets Whitey Have It
Is this the type of 'unity' and 'bringing America together' that Barack Obama believes in? 'Cause Obama's minister sure sounds like an old-fashioned racial bigot to me.

The flailing and false equivalences begin.
Keep it up. Just like a typical “liberal”, you keep defending that racism.
Come on, man. He’s not a racist bigot. He just hates white people with the fire of a thousand suns and blames them for all that is wrong with modern day society.
Geez…it’s getting so a person can’t even hate an entire ethnic class of people without being called a bigot.
The flailing and false equivalences begin.
Yeah, because Likwid is so accurate when it comes to equivalences.
My pastor thinks gay sex is an abomination…I dont. What does that say about me? Nothing, other than I disagree with my pastor.
Shrug.
If my attourney was arrested for breaking the law, does that mean his legal adivice given to all his clients is faulty?
Does it convict all of his clients as crooks?
No and no.
This is just dumb.
The actions of the pastor only reflect on the pastor or those who verbally support his statements.
That is about as racist as they get. We all can rest assured that racism is alive and well in the world, thanks to speakers like him.
The Democrats are telling us that it doesn’t matter that Obama belongs to a racist church.
The Democrats are telling us that it doesn’t matter that Obama belongs to a racist church.
Why is it a racist church? Now the whole church is racist?
The dude is a cry baby about the fact that real racists existed and blacks suffer. I hear that crybaby story all the time, doesn’t make them racist.
But to address your false accusation. What we are saying is that this pastors remarks dont reflect on Obama anymore than my pastor reflects on me.
Dont be dishonest.
My pastor thinks gay sex is an abomination…I dont. What does that say about me? Nothing, other than I disagree with my pastor.
1) Is it your pastor or is he/she in alignment with his denomination in this matter. If is the denomination, why do you still attend. 2) If it is just the feelings of your pastor, why don’t you conront him/her and if they still insist on teaching this doctrine, why don’t you leave? If you stay, you are allowing that teaching to advance and lending your name to that teaching.
If this pastor decries white people for any cause, he is a racist. Period! End of discussion! He is condemning people because of skin color, and if Obama stays in a congregation wherein a pastor holds such views, he must to some degree feel comfortable with those teachings.

Zsa Zsa, hello. Yes. This election will be one “barn burner” Some will not be able to hide themselves.
Communism is evil
I didnt hear anything racist in that stupid rant.
He simply said that Hillary doesn’t know what its like to be black, hes right. He said she doesn’t know what it’s like to be a black man driving down the street in the wrong neighborhood and get pulled over for no reason, hes right. I have been pulled over for being brown in a white neighborhood. Guess what, maybe Obama has no idea what its like to get pulled over for being black in a white neighborhood. None of this is racist.
Hell, I even had a policeman ask to search my car for drugs after he verified I had a legal DL, Insurance and registration. He found nothing.
He said he loved his enemies and not be reduced to their level of bigotry, hatred and small-mindedness. That is the opposite of racism.
He loved Jesus because Jesus never let their hatred dampen his hope. That is not racism.
He said that Hillary never had anyone say she wasn’t white enough…..THAT ISNT RACISM. It’s racsim to say that Barack isn’t black enough. He is condemning that.
The Democrats are telling us that it doesn’t matter that Obama belongs to a racist church.
The Republicans were telling us it didn’t matter that Mitt Romney belonged to an *officially* racist church, so I’m not sure why you’re feigning surprise.

Anybody here say anything remotely like that?
Didn’t think so.
So why are you trying to deflect from your statements?
Because you have a weak argument.
Oh, and there’s no “feigning surprise” at your approval of Obama’s racist church. I fully expected this.
We are a congregation which is Unashamedly White
Democrats don’t think that this is racist.
First they defend. When that doesn’t work, then they deny. When that doesn’t work, then they deflect.

Notice that Likwid is ignoring the reasoned responses to his statements and instead is throwing darts at the targets that he likes.
Come on, man. He’s not a racist bigot. He just hates white people
Wow Bruce, doesn’t sound sound racist at all to me either! Well of course the reason is that black people can not be racist (at least that is what NDSU’s diversity council has taught me if anything)
This “pastor” is the biggest phony I have ever heard. He teaches had from the pulpit. He said he loves the hell out of his enemies but that does not sound like love to me.
And he claims that Jesus was black? My Bible says he was Jewish which would mean he probably looked like he had middle eastern decent. But who’s keeping track of the facts?

What do you know from facts?
What do you know from facts?
I know from the Bible that Jesus was born of 2 Jewish people, and that it does not say anywhere in the Bible that Jesus was a poor black man. It never said He was poor.
It does say that Jesus was a carpenter with his Dad who ran his own carpentry business, but it does not say they were poor.
And I wouldn’t call a man who went to Harvard law school and owns a mansion near Chicago(A.K.A. Obama, not Jesus) poor.

Dougee: We are on the same side of this issue, but I need to clarify this:
Jesus said he had no where to lay his head, His ministry was financially supported ny Mary and Martha and in other ways we know that at the time of His ministry Jesus was among the poor.
Jesus was probably olive skinned, quite tan from being in the sun a lot, but is niether white, black, brown or any such thing. He is everyman!

The Bible, if you will note, didn’t indicate what color the Jewish people were. Correct?
It never said He was poor.
Do you think he came from wealth? All teachings I have ever seen never represented him as having wealth.
And I wouldn’t call a man who went to Harvard law school and owns a mansion near Chicago(A.K.A. Obama, not Jesus) poor.
Neither would I, that’s why I called it a stupid rant.
There are some facts Hannitized
OK. Thank you. Here are mine.
The race of Jesus has been a subject of debate since at least the 19th century. The physical appearance of Jesus of Nazareth, though with no explicit emphasis on race, was also debated by theologians from early on in the history of Christianity. Different societies have depicted Jesus and most other biblical figures as their own ethnicity in their art; for example he is primarily white in the West, and black in Africa. Such representations are not, in the modern day, usually intended to be historically accurate. The current dominant opinion among historians and scientists is that he most likely had olive skin, resembling modern-day persons of Middle Eastern descent. Others, however, have suggested other possible racial backgrounds. For some Christians the question is complicated by the belief that his birth was a unique miracle, an “incarnation in flesh of divine substance.”
Contemporary textual evidence on Jesus’ life is scarce, and specific descriptions of his appearance even more so. There are no direct references to his appearance during his physical lifetime, though Revelation 1:13–16 describes his features as he appears in his heavenly form, as seen in a vision by John the Divine. These have sometimes been used in modern arguments concerning Jesus’ race,
1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks [one] like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and His voice as the sound of many waters.
1:16 And He had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and His countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength. (KJV translation)
The whole of the book of Revelation is generally taken as highly symbolic, and this passage is no exception, especially since the remainder of the description clearly cannot be interpreted as being a natural description. Nonetheless this passage has been used to argue that Jesus was black, based on the description of his hair as being “like wool”, which is interpreted to refer to hair that is tightly coiled, as many people of African descent have.[1] However, the full phrase is “white like wool”, and it is also compared to snow, complicating this interpretation. In fact, the phrase “white like wool” is reproduced from the Book of Daniel.[2] It is also comparable to language used in the Apocalypse of Abraham, which describes the angel Yahoel as having a body “like sapphire” a face “like chrysolite” and “the hair of his head like snow”.[3]
Hannitized:
Isiah 53 tells us that Jesus was a very common looking man, having no particular physical beauty that men should desire Him on that account, rather they would be attracted to the spiritual light within Him. That doesn’t mean he was ugly, just not having a physical appearance that would appeal to the flesh of man (male/female), no movie star quality. He was a common carpenter, so we can guess that he was no frail fellow, having strong arms and rough hands. He was Jewish and as I said earlier that suggests an olive skin as we have no warrant whatsoever to suppose a radical change in Jewish skin color over the past 2,000 years, He was therefore not white and not really brown, thus a perfect representation of all flesh.
These facts are a distraction from the subject of the thread, which is a favored tactic of the Left; that is, obfuscate by changing the subject and then the point in question will be lost in the avalanche of dissociated arguments. I expect Obama to use this tactic and ignore the flap over his pastor.
Obama sat under this ministry for two decades, and despite the many racist rants by the pastor, he never felt a need to distance himself from his pastor’s (mentor’s) anti-American and anti-Caucasian rhetoric, and even now using clever language he offers the appearance of distance from the anti-American and anti-Causcasion rants of his pastor/friend, while continuing to embrace him on a personal level. Thus he did not leave this ugly, hate filled ministry and he still refuses to distance himself in any real way from the man behind these wicked comments. So, it appears Obama really agrees with this Afro-Centric, anti-Caucasion and European philosophy and therefore his candidacy should be judged on that basis, no.?

Kansasgirl,
What trailer park do you live in? What excuse do you have for the whites who are living on welfare? Or you living in denial?
These people are racist. I have never heard any preacher say similar words in the fifty years I have been sitting in pews. This fellow has some “issues”. I feel sorry for him and hope the gets right.
Communism is evil
But to address your false accusation. What we are saying is that this pastors remarks dont reflect on Obama anymore than my pastor reflects on me.
Dont be dishonest.
You are a voluntary member of your church. By going to that Church, you are saying that you are in agreement with that church. While that obviously doesn’t mean you agree with every single thing that either your pastor or your church agree with, it means that whatever you disagree on is trivial. So, by staying, it is reasonably inferred that you aren’t too angry about the difference in opinion.
I cannot be a member of the Catholic church because I don’t believe in intercessions, and find it blasphemous to pray to or through saints. If I stayed in the Catholic Church, it’d be fair to assume that I either believed in that, or took no exception to it (since it’s a major part of the faith).
I didnt hear anything racist in that stupid rant.
“People don’t care about what it’s like for poor black men, living in a society controlled by rich white men. I see some white people here, they’re uncomfortable. I’m still in the texts. Jesus was a poor black man, in a society run by rich white men.”
That’s inflamatory and it’s typical speak for “The white man causes all our problems.” The false equivalence of Jesus (a Jew) with a black man, while other Jews (rich white men obviously) is equally stupid. This rant is laced with black anger at white men. To make a biblical issue of today’s white black relations is absurd and disgusting (while today Judaism is more widespread, at the time of Jesus, there was a much more racial component of Judaism than there is today—hence the calling of the Jews “The Chosen People”, as they were Jewish before the law was given to them.)
Forgetting his idiocy about saying that Barack isn’t rich or privledged (he’s obviously both), his statement that people hate Barack Obama because he’s black ALSO smacks of his own personal racism.
This entire rant is about souring race relations, and blaming the white man for every ill that faces the black man. If Obama grew up in a one parent household, that was first the fault of his father for running off, but it was also his mom’s fault for choosing poorly, and driving off other men. No white man involved.
But the pastor brings up a good point. White people don’t ask if other white people are white enough. That is a black thing (that has been transferred to other minorities through “liberal tolerance”.)
Do you think he came from wealth? All teachings I have ever seen never represented him as having wealth.
Just because you don’t come from wealth doesn’t mean you are poor. The bible makes it seem like Joseph ran a successful business and was able to provide a comfortable lifestyle for his family. In the nativity, they sleep in a barn, not because they are poor, but because there is nowhere for them to lay in the inns…all the rooms are full. And when Jesus embarks on his ministry, he is poor by choice. He travels from town to town, not trying to make a living, but only to speak the word of God. They survive on the compassion of those who hear and believe.
The Bible, if you will note, didn’t indicate what color the Jewish people were. Correct?
Jesus was Jewish. While the racial component of the Jewish faith has been downplayed in recent years, at the time being Jewish was both faith and race based. There is a reason that, in the Quran, Jews and blacks are talked about differently. They weren’t the same thing. There is a reason that, Hitler ALSO referred differently to blacks and Jews. Historically, Jews were not black. By best estimates today, there are between 40-500k in America (as opposed to 5.3 million “white” Jews) source. To believe that Jews were historically black, one needs to believe that, even by the time of Mohammad, the racial composition of the Jews had dramatically changed. Given the biblical accounts of the exclusiveness of the Jewish faith…this is not a reasonable belief.
It’s all political bullshit. Liberals (and Robert108) lie and spin and twist and obscure and distract and cheat to protect their guys and hurt the opposing team. It’s like wrestling. That is the current popular theory, but I am making no claims to the contrary. I am merely saying, we are guessing at this point. A guess is as good as any.
These facts are a distraction from the subject of the thread, which is a favored tactic of the Left; that is, obfuscate by changing the subject and then the point in question will be lost in the avalanche of dissociated arguments.

To respond to a question from his opponent? Partisan much?
Obama sat under this ministry for two decades, and despite the many racist rants by the pastor,
WHAT racist rant?
he never felt a need to distance himself from his pastor’s (mentor’s) anti-American and anti-Caucasian rhetoric,
It’s anti Caucasian to acknowledge that racism existed and exists? You’re unhinged.
and even now using clever language he offers the appearance of distance from the anti-American and anti-Causcasion rants of his pastor/friend, while continuing to embrace him on a personal level.
Clever language or reasoned responses?
Thus he did not leave this ugly, hate filled ministry
Are ministries hate-filled when they rant about Muslims or gays. Are you hate-filled when you rant about Muslims? Answer that Nieman. I dare you.
and he still refuses to distance himself in any real way from the man behind these wicked comments.
Sounds like he distanced himself to me.
So, it appears Obama really agrees with this Afro-Centric, anti-Caucasion and European philosophy and therefore his candidacy should be judged on that basis, no.?
Absolutely not.

Certainly the American people would not vote for Obama after hearing what his preacher is preaching??? That is sad. Why is it OK for black people to talk like that about “the whitey’”? I just don’t get it. Life is too short to feel so much hatred for anyone, let alone an entire race!

I don’t care what you disbelieve…the fact that you stay shows that you either feel the disagreements are trivial or you have no core beliefs. Either way, by associating yourself with the church you tell everyone that you are in agreement with the church on the vast majority of things, and those that you aren’t don’t matter enough to leave.
It’s all political bullshit. Liberals (and Robert108) lie and spin and twist and obscure and distract and cheat to protect their guys and hurt the opposing team. It’s like wrestling. Someone got this off onto the subject of Jesus’ skin color and if I wronged you in assuming it was you, I apologize!
Are ministries hate-filled when they rant about Muslims or gays. Are you hate-filled when you rant about Muslims? Answer that Nieman. I dare you.
I prefer it when somone double-dog dares me!
I have never condemned anyone to hell, not even militant Muslims. It is one thing to be passionate, blunt and even unintentionally hurtful when discussing the actions and beliefs of others, based on documented facts; it is quite another thing altogether to say “God Damn America!’ That is clearly an expression of hate!
“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people,” he said in a 2003 sermon. “God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.”
There are many more, including clear expressions of hate for white people. So to answer your question, I talk directly and get people irritated about some matters, but I don’t ask God to condemn them to hell or express any hate for their skin color. By the way I have a multi-racial family and my most dearly loved, best buddy grandson is Black.
So, it appears Obama really agrees with this Afro-Centric, anti-Caucasion and European philosophy and therefore his candidacy should be judged on that basis, no.?
Absolutely not.
So, you are saying we should not examine and judge Obama’s beliefs and character based on 20 years of support for a pastor that engages in such rhetoric? Then on what basis? What he says now? That is like. ‘are you going to believe my past record and unsavory, intimate associations or what I am saying today?’ That seems pretty unwise to me.
I cannot know for sure, but it seems to me that you are supporting Obama to a great degree upon his skin color and racial-ethnic origins, not his qualifications for office or legislative record.

I think if he were half the man he should be he would stand by his pastor. He would stand up and say, “Whatever Pastor Wright says is OK by me”.
He should not repudiate a word. He needs to stand by his man.
Besides, this kind of Rhetoric is exactly what the far lefty daily kos huffington post commenter’s believe anyway. This will endear Obama to them and drive stake what he really believes.

Religion is a mental disease, and this entire dialogue proves it.
Actually, you are right to criticize religion, it is always a man made construct, a means of holding people in bondage to some person or group’s idea of right and wrong (A list of do’s and don’ts) and how to get to God. Problem is, Christianity is not a religion, although sadly most Christians are aligned with some religious group. Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, it is absent any bondage to any laws, not even the laws of the Old Testament. It is to have intimate communion with the Son of God through the Word and to have one’s life changed day by day into His express image by the power of His Holy Spirit.
I should add that every true socialist and communist and tyrannical dictator of any kind must decry religion as they will not brook any competition for their own form of human bondage, of absolute servitude and submission to the secular state. Yet, if atheism, socialism and communism are the answers to the problems of life, why is it that that Church always grows numerically and in spiritual power when your side tries to suppress the desire of man to be in right relationship with their Creator? Why is it that socialism and communism produce such poverty and unhappiness among the people it was designed to lift up in a classless society?
You may fight for a secular society until you die, you may feel some sense of satisfaction when a people have been forced into submission to the state, but you will never deal a death blow to Christianity, I know, it has been tried many times. All you can hope to accomplish is to make as many people miserable as possible; and yet it is stupid, because that very bondage and misery is the fruitful soil of the Christian faith. Your poverty, misery and even oppression of the Christian faith will only make it grow stronger and it will still be victorious.

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright is absolutely WRONG for encouraging racism. He definitely is diseased! He has an Inferiority complex as big as can be. The individuals patting him on the back are obviously inflicted with the same disease. Has it ever occurred to them they don’t have to be stuck in the muck that our Social programs in the USA encourage? The emancipation proclamation was issued January 1,1863. It is long past time we realize that we in the US are as free or restricted as we ourselves choose to be.
Jesus was a poor black man
And I always thought Sammy Davis Jr. was the only black Jew. Well it just goes to show ya.
Whoops, there goes the religion vote.

Zsa Zsa. Well put. Socialist. Communism is a religion to those who put “the state” above God. The Romans demanded that everyone bow down to Caesar. Secular humanists put themselves in place of God.
Neiman explained the word religion well for Christians.
This man and his church are racist, illegal (IRS wise), and in my opinion, demented.
Communism is evil
Is it true that this guy is Oprahs pastor too?
I wonder how the people in the congregation feel after one of these sermons. Joyful, angry, frustrated, thankful? Is anyone any closer to God, as should be the hope of any Pastor leading a “flock”. We can all disagree on small things(http://www.equip.org/site/c.muI1LaMNJrE/b.3894905/), but when it comes to beliefs about homosexuality, abortion, hate, we must agree or the church we attend will become divided. As in the case of the United Methodist Church and Gay Ministers. That is a huge issue. What Wright teaches is that whites are the reasons for all problems in the world. What of personal responsibility? Jesus didn’t come to free the Jews from Roman rule, but from the power of sin, and to free us from the penalty of death. That’s what Wright should be teaching.
Matthew 6:20-21
20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
I wonder how the people in the congregation feel after one of these sermons.
The same as anyone listening to gasbags railing against straw men.
Win or lose, you know there will be urban riots, just like there is after the NBA championship!
I know, those white folks always get violent when their team looses.
I hope McCain doesn’t loose, I wouldn’t want to see all that bloodshed.
barak obama with his family has an escuse to why he never heard his pastor make racial remarks about white people, obama and his family were asleep in church for the past 20 years!they would come in sit down and pass out until someone woke them up after rev. wrights rantings were finished.so now you know.
I know, those white folks always get violent when their team looses.
No, white (conservative) folks (you know, the ones that elected ‘Dubya in twice) get violent when a non-white asserts or holds a position of power over them. They start freaking out and try to smear them in the ground since they can’t lynch them anymore like they used to. Racism against non-whites is HUGE everywhere in the south, I can’t speak for everywhere else. But it’s not like this stuff is such a shock, so unheard of? People blame blacks, whites, mexicans, jews, gays, transsexuals, whoever they don’t like, for all their problems. Jerry Falwell blamed 9/11 on gay people, said it was their fault and we deserved it. People like this exist EVEYWHERE. Take away affirmative action, and you’ll see just how racist America really is. Even that isn’t stopping some people.
So you say Obama shouldn’t have associated himself with the pastor if he disagreed. Were you there for the other 19 out of 20 years Obama was going there? Did you hear all of Rev. Wright’s OTHER sermons? Politicians KNOW when something’s going to hurt their campaign- they have advisors telling them, “hey, you know that crazy racist pastor at your church, I bet Hillary would love to use that against you, you might want to start distancing yourself now”. It’s funny how he just ALL of a sudden made this speech that they found out about. I’ve only seen two unique clips of his sermons- surely there are more than that from someone with a 36-year history of preaching this? It seems very well politically timed.
Besides, Obama is rich, and privileged, otherwise he wouldn’t have gotten this far in his campaign.
America IS screwed up. America DOES need fixing. We ARE angry after getting a taste of what we have been dishing out to other countries for years. WE’VE never been locked frightened in our houses while bombs rain outside- we just had a few buildings collapse, and look at us. I think some of these things DO need to be said.
And why the hell is everyone arguing over Jesus’s skin color? Doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose of this ENTIRE ARGUMENT?
In the end, it’ll come down to what you do and not what you say. I doubt he can do more damage than W’s done so far.
