The Racial Tinge of Identity Politics

Recently, Sarah Palin was asked if there was a “racial tinge” to her remarks about Obama’s association with known, unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers.

Ayers, of course, is a white guy, but let’s not let the facts get in the way of a good story! So, to the mainstream media, you say the word “terrorist” and they immediately (in their minds) conjure up an image of a swarthy, middle-Eastern type, no doubt with a burnoose and perhaps a scimitar for good measure! Clearly racism! /sarcasm

In the world of identity politics, you are classified by who you are. To conservatives, you are classified by what you do: Judged the content of your character rather than the color of your skin, so to speak!

To Sarah Palin, the Weathermen are to be condemned as terrorists, regardless of their race, creed or the color of their skin. The identity politician must first identify which Victim Group a person falls into, so they will know which excuse to use for why that person ought not to be held responsible for their actions.
Unless it’s a conservative, then…Hang ‘em high!
