The Liberal Left Loves Their Messiahs

Good grief...

image

I think most of us not completely in the thrall of Barack Obama or global warming hysteria can agree that elevating political leaders to cult status (see: Che Guevera) is pretty stupid.  But I’ll go one step further and say that it’s downright dangerous.

People like Al Gore and Barack Obama seek to wield great amounts of power of the rest of us.  If they ascend to that power with these cults of personality surrounding them we are all in big trouble because these men will rule thinking they’re as infallible as their followers think they are.

It is better to live under the rule of corrupt kleptocrats who at least know their limitations than to live under the rule of do-gooder busybodies who try to act like the god-like deities their followers make them out to be.

What Would Al Gore Do?

Light his driveway in the least efficient manner possible?

Use 20X more energy than the average person (not including travel.)

Sell carbon credit indulgences to wash away your sins?

Not sure what direction you want to take here.

“ It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” - C.S. Lewis

Don’t kid yourself though, Gore and Obama are as corrupt and greedy as they come. They peddle a sense of identity to stupid Americans in need of something to believe. This is the next, aethiestic evolution of faith and the credulity that has fueled it for millenia.

He would have one single bag of grocery picked up and delivered in a gas guzzling stretch limousine with A/C on.

He would buy exotic food that was transported from far away places and traveled thousands of miles in carbon emitting airplanes.

Karma, what goes around comes around?

After decades of lying, cheating, manipulating, supreme hypocrisy and getting filthy rich on snake oil schemes - and this is the short list - I would not want to be in Al Gore’s shoes when it “comes around”

The level of near god worship of Obama, Gore, a Clinton or even back to a JFK or FDR is reflective of the natural human yearning to make sense of their lives and to find someone to bring peace and happiness out of the chaos around them. Gorbachev said in a speech many years ago, regarding the desire for peace in the human heart, send us that man who will bring us peace and be he god or the devil we will worship him. (That is a loose paraphrase, I could not find the exact quotation.)

The point is: Most of humanity is looking for a delverer, a savior, a Messiah and sadly they will cling to any pretender if that person ‘appears’ to be looking out for them and their interests, or in Cintonesque, a man who by his words seems to ‘feel their pain.’

Today that Messiah seems to be an Obama and on the edges an Al Gore and when each is shown to have clay feet, another will rise up, another false Christ; until one rises up even doing miracles and seeming to be able to produce peace, and he will be the worst dictator of all.

No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.

You seem to have forgotten:

There is NO controlling legal authority!

Thus saith AlGore.

Neiman, is that why goppers reverently invoke the name of the Great Communicator when they look to place a pedestal under one of their own?

rbb: I hate to waste my time replying to you, but for the sake of others: Conservatives, me included, have often criticized Reagan on various matters, even while he was in office precisely because those on the Right, mostly, believe in the One God and are not looking for any man to fill that role. There is great respect for Reagan, deserved respect and honor for a great man and President; but the difference between those on the Left and the Right, is that the latter know Reagan was just a man, not a god. The same could be said for Lincoln!

On the Left, just in my lifetime, we have seen five Democrats raised to near deification, FDR, JFK, Billy Jeff, Al Gore and now Osmabama! I think that makes the record clear!

right, rbb, and why people like you suck up to Obama, the Clintons and petty tyrants like Castro.

I don’t see any saviors on the other side today.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

rbb: Many conservatives believe that one savior every couple of millennia or so is sufficient.

But good luck on your never ending quest for false equivalence!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

Thank you for wasting your time on lil ol me, Neiman.

I love you.

The righties are the only ones raising up Obama to deity status.

And the righies are the only ones raising up the others to deity status.

dd, please link to anywhere where rbb has “suck[ed] up to Obama, the Clintons and petty tyrants like Castro.”

Hasn’t John McCain drank from the Algore global warming pool?

Except for the Charisma thing, how is he different than Algore on global warming?

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

And the righies are the only ones raising up the others to deity status.

Actually, it was a liberal columnist that first raised the Messiah label for Obama. Next, if I recognize that people are following Obama absent any knowledge of his record or qualifications, fainting at his touch and speaking of him like Oprah as being “the One” that will take the world to “a higher plane,” then I am only recognizing the obvious not elevating Osamabama to deity status.

I read this article somewhere where they had made a bunch of “What Would Al Gore Do” reuseable grocery bags.  If my recollection is correct, that would make your statement false.

Huh?!

We “righties” are mocking the left for raising Obama to deity status.

We “ righties” think Obama is unqualified.

Where are you been all this time?

it is leftists who think Obama is so great that he is already of Abraham Lincoln caliber before he has even accomplished one damn thing!!!

Neiman, is that why goppers reverently invoke the name of the Great Communicator when they look to place a pedestal under one of their own?

Reagan constantly said he couldn’t fix the problems of humanity. Hardly a messianic figure.

Obama/Biden is not change. It’s more of the same.

Reagan constantly said he couldn’t fix the problems of humanity.

He did a good job proving it.

Why is that all goppers reverently invoke the name of the Great Communicator when they look to place a pedestal under themselves?

Well, he ended thr Cold War, bringing freedom and prosperity to tens of millions of human beings. He handed off the keys to the prosperity that was falsely credited to Billy Jeff and many other things, so not bad for someone you hate!

rbb: Sometimes your lack on an ability to engage in a rational, intellectual debate is quite irritating.

Did the Cold War end during his term? Yes! Was it Reagan that confronted the Soviets, militarily spending them into oblivion? Yes! Did others play a role? Yes! Gorbachev and the Pope; but absent Reagan and his no nonsense program to bring down the Soviet union we would still be in a Cold War.

Yes simpleton, George H.W. Bush followed Reagan, but it was because of the end of the Cold War that military bases started being closed, the economy was already on the way to great prosperity at the end of Reagans administration, G.H.W. Bush continued Reagan policies fairly well, and that all set the stage for the prosperity of the Clinton years.

has denied the accomplishments of Reagan,

next he will probably deny the surge is working.

Cult of Personality has been part and parcel Leftist since the first barricades went up in Paris and the first aristocrats’ head rolled into a basket.  As much as they decry religion (note the Soviet and Chi-Com destruction of synagogues, churches, mosques and now the falun gong) they worship their leaders as deities, since the State is their anti-religion.

And as one tyrant sickens and dies, another tyrant is there to take their place.  Such is Statism and such is tyranny.

What is most galling is the utter criminal stupidity of Leftists who cry to be fettered with the chains of the state and for the blood of those who resist.

Nieman old pal, what year did the Wall come down?

Thank you for acknowledging what most of your right wing amigos will not, that GHWB actually began the dismantlement of our military. GHWB handed Clinton a savaged economy, tell us about the GHWB recession, Neiman. There had to be prosperity in the Clinton years, we were coming out of a gop recession.

He didn’t end the cold war and I kinda thought he handed the keys to junior’s daddy who actually called Ronnie’s scheme Voodoo.

The cold war ended very early into GHWB’s term due to all the policies enacted by Reagan. It’s beyond silly to claim that since the Berlin wall became useless in 1989 that Reagan had nothing to do with it.
This is like claiming that AIDS had nothing to do with the death of an infected person, because really the cold killed them. Well, the cold wouldn’t have killed them if AIDS hadn’t destroyed the immune system. They started collapsing in 1985, and just prolonged it until 1991. By 1989 the collapse was irreversible.

Life was good during Clinton’s presidency wasn’t it, not so bad for someone you hate.

Not as good as under Bush.
