The Left Just Can’t Stop Bashing Palin
Okay, to be fair it isn’t just the fact that Palin scares the bejeezus out of the left and for a variety of reasons – morality, mainstream values (eek), etc. It’s also partly pure intellectual snobbery that keeps the left ticking – and kicking:
A LexisNexis search shows Palin has generated roughly twice the news coverage as Vice President-elect Joe Biden.
Palin has not said whether she plans to run for national office again in 2012. The opening leaves her plenty of time to map out her career path, but it also leaves critics plenty of time to sharpen their attacks.
The Huffington Post, on its Palin-bashing Web page, explores “Sarah Palin Naked” and names her “The Dumbest Thing of 2008.”
At the New York Review of Books, intellectuals body-check the country’s most famous hockey mom.
“She has spent much more time in church than she has studying foreign policy,” wrote Frances Fitzgerald. “And the habit of mind these churches instill has little to do with diplomacy or peacemaking.”
British author Timothy Garton Ash wrote that, “Palin … like George W. Bush, reinforces every European cliche about the otherness (cowboyness, hickiness, wackiness) of Americans.”
And Pulitzer Prize winner Russell Baker said simply: “Ms. Palin could be the next Nixon.”
The far left, as an entity, is an amazing creature.
This is an animal that can ignore the fact that Hamas sent 3,000 rockets into Israel before there was any significant Israeli response, an animal that clings to global warming even as that boat steadily sinks in the icy waters of a near record winter, and an animal that tells us that Caroline Kennedy, a woman who hasn’t done anything her whole life but be rich and have an accidental relationship to a former president, is qualified to be a Senator while screaming that Palin, one of the most successful governors in the country, isn’t qualified to do, well, anything.
For a bunch of relatively intelligent people there is a certain type of cognitive disconnection at work among them. Reality is what they say it is, whether it is in fact or not.
I’m wondering when the backlash to the rise of the left will begin. After all. for every action there is an equal ansd opposite reaction at some point. But, of course, the left being the brain trust of this country knows that.
Don’t they?
