The Forum’s Base Closure Editorial

ND NEWS

The Forum's editorial in today's paper takes on the issue of air base closures here in North Dakota, definitely a popular topic. However, the stand they take I imagine will get some unpopular reviews.

The Forum- The case to keep the Air Guard's best fighter unit in Fargo must be based first on the value of its mission to the nation's defense, and second on its economic value and historic ties to the region."

Those words also apply to the big Air Force bases at Grand Forks and Minot. All three bases, after all, exist to defend the nation. That is their paramount purpose, their mission. That they also are economic engines for the region is important, but should not be the primary reason for keeping them open

I have to agree with them 100%. While all North Dakotans appreciate the economic impact that these bases give to our state, this impact is only a by-product of their primary purpose. That purpose is the defense of our country. If our bases are not what America needs to defend itself for 21st century warfare, then we as North Dakotans have to respect that decision, even if we don't like it.

And memo to Senator Kent Conrad and Co. Your petition sign-up list will have zero impact on the BRAC decision. Quit trying to shamelessly get publicity over this issue.

You’re right, ND has a great reputation for its relationship with its bases. That reputation has been built throughout the years across the entire state. I am pretty skeptical as to how much impact an online petition will have. I guess it can’t hurt our chances, but I wonder about Conrad’s intent.

Actually JG, I am joining the US Air Force this summer for a 3-year committment. No shit.

Here’s a shoehorn to get your foot out of your mouth.

You are absolutely right, though I’d point out that its important to make the decision-makers aware of the fact that a given base resides in a cooperative community.  If it comes down to two bases that are equivalent in terms of mission and economics it may come down to which base is located in the better community.

So there is an impact to what Conrad is doing, just probably not as much as he’d like everybody to believe.

I think things look pretty good for the base in Minot.  The base’s location (in the middle of the flat prairie) makes it optimal for having missions moved to it from other bases that will be closed.  I’d be very surprised if they closed our base.

But you never can tell, I guess.

Having Rob and Joshua comment about the defense of the nation is like listening to Tom DeLay talk about ethics.

Bothe Rob and Joshua would rather crawl through broken glass than serve in a military they have no qualms about placing in harm’s way.

Bad enough both refuse to serve but they also both refuse to sacrifice anything in a war they deem critical.

Usually JG just slithers away from a thread without response when he’s had his @$$ handed to him, apparently he wants more today?

Jeez Jadegold, still ticked off because nobody believes your military service lies?

What service?

What, now you’re angry because Josh didn’t enlist fast enough for you?  What an ass you are.

Tell us what you did during the war on terror.

Here’s a better question: Why don’t you tell us what you did?  You’ve been asked repeatedly about your alleged service and never once have you offered any details as proof.  Everyone else here is being honest about their service, why not you?

And the answer is obvious: Its because you’ve never served.  You only claim military service because you think it makes your political stances stronger.

It’s a stupid argument, just makes your look ignorant…

That won’t stop Jadegold from making it though.

This is just spectulation, but I believe that the genesis of Jadegold’s military service lies are based in his use of this argument.  He can claim that he has a right to have an opinion on the war because he served in the military.  Its politically convenient for him to perpetuate the lie.

I’m sure you like having the police protect your neighborhood, right?

If they decided to up and leave you unprotected, you would have no right to complain about it because you didn’t volunteer to become a cop?  After all, asking that the police force protects you requires that you ask someone to put their life on the line…

It’s a stupid argument, just makes your look ignorant…

You bet. And if the police came to my door and asked for my help–they’d get it.

Pardon me, JG, but I don’t believe you.  The thought of you dropping everything in your life to join in the academy (even if you didn’t have the money to pay for it) because you support the police force is a bit absurd…

Well, the military is asking for help right now; they’re over-extended and recruitment isn’t keeping up with need.

You tell us you support this war--but not enough to go out of your way to join up.

I just learned that Jadegold has a past history of peddling in child pornography…

I’m not going to provide any information to back this up, you can use Google or the search engine of your choice to find the plethora of facts regarding this information…

And don’t bother doubting me, I’ll just call you a liar and tell you to search Google again cause it is there…

You’re against the war yet were too chickenshit to go and be a human shield for Saddam.  Are you so angry because you lack the courage of your convictions Jadegold?

And I notice that you’re still ignoring the questions about your own military service.  Would you like to come clean on that or would you just like us to keep going with the idea that its all just a lie for convenience?

Still being dense, Aaron?  DoD was the Dept. of War.  Nothing changed except the name.

Meanwhile the USAF is still looking for a mission.

Leave it to COWARD to change a thread about base closures to one about his pathetic excuse for a military history.

Time and time again, you have been asked to give ANY proof of your “alleged” military service, yet, time and time again, you slither away like the coward you are.

You are nothing but a pathetic coward, Guy Cabot, and no matter what people tell you, getting on the internet and lying to people because you think it will give your knee-jerk, lock-step, regurgitated, tinfoil hat liberal BULLSHIT a better chance of not being seen for what it really is: A sad pathetic boy’s plea for someone to like him.

I don’t know if it was your family’s fault that they didn’t love you enough, or Don ‘osama’ Myers fault that he didn’t give you enough sex, but take some advice: Life sucks, get a helmet. Suck in your bottom lip and quit your pathetic flaming, you silly bitch.

Son of America

P.S. Joshua, welcome to the fight. USAF is a good way to go. It beats the hell out of the infantry.

Hmmm..first, COWARD refused to believe that Joshua is actually serving..

Then, COWARD goes on to spout some shit about the US never losing a war until the USAF came along, as if that has ANYTHING to do with anything.

The hits just keep on coming.

Obviously, and the USAF was incorporated under the same umbrella until the DoW was renamed the DoD and the USAF was seperated on it’s own…

The point is that your statement, as mine, was meaningless…

Josh smacks your military service nonsense back in your face, so now you’re angry and have to insult the Air Force to make yourself feel better?
