They are using a simulator.  Notice what looks like large slings?  Those are the air tubes that actually cycle the action just as it would work when fired.  Not quite the same recoil as real ammo but very similar.  If I remember correctly they fired a type of blank for the noise or would work without them.  I didn’t see any ear protection being used either.  Not to take anything away from Palin as she looked like she could have handled the carbine without much instruction.  (it appeared that an instruction she was getting was where to hit it, not how to hit it)

The video is from a trip Palin took to Kuwait to visit Alaskan troops.  Clearly, given the quality of the video, the video itself wasn’t a photo-op.  But that doesn’t mean the event itself wasn’t a photo-op.

Also, you can have a lot of experience with guns and still be a novice when it comes to specific kinds of guns.  I’ve shot thousands of rounds from handguns and shotguns and rifles, but I’ve never shot an assault rifle.  If I was holding one and firing it for the first time I’d probably treat it as gingerly as Palin does in the video.

It wouldn’t mean I didn’t know what I was doing.  It would mean I was being cautious with a weapon I was inexperienced with.  Which is how responsible gun enthusiasts operate.

The Coolest Video Of A VP Candidate With A Gun You’ll See All Day

Perfect illustration of the warlike messages the Right (bomb bomb Iran) is fond of sending. Diplomacy, peace and seeking a way to fix the problems that caused 9/11 are what a new leader should be focusing on.  Much of the anti-American sentiment around the world has been bred by our image as a warring nation invading a non-threat sovereign nation in defiance of UN resolutions and causing the needless death, maiming and suffering of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. We are seen as arrogant pistol-packing bullies. I might add that the message is equally bad for our own children. We tell them how important our Pro-Life principles are while we go around brandishing implements designed for war and killing?  As a soccer mom, why isn’t she shown organizing a Peace Soccer Team made up of American and Iranian children among others, inculcated with the ethos of friendship and human values that have traditionally symbolized our country?
