The Brady Gun Control Law Is A Failure

Because the background checks ran on gun purchases have a 0.00009% success rate.

Brady background checks for 2006 – 8,209,900
Total number of convictions from felons trying to buy guns – 73
That’s a whopping 0.00009%
I wonder if maybe, just maybe felons don’t normally buy their guns from a retail store?

Undoubtedly.
And then there’s also the fact that owning a gun doesn’t make you more likely to commit crimes. Guns don’t murder and rob. People murder and rob. If you want to stop the crime problem, deal with the criminals. Not the guns.

Because the laws aren’t really to keep guns away from criminals? Because they are instead made to discourage law abiding types?

  • RebTex

THe brady bill is a farce.
It was put together on a lie & It's done nothing to aid society.

Guns don't murder and rob. People murder and rob

Guns don't kill people…HUsbands that come home early do

    I whole-heartedly agree.

  • AR-15

Really? I guess the "EVIL NRA" was correct in predicting this as a waste of time over a decade ago…shocking! Go fuck yourselves Brady Bunch.

  • AR-15

Where's all the Democrats trying to defend the great success of this "common sense gun law"? Bring it, you 2ndA hating assholes! Your messiah(OBAMA) will be more than willing to sign ANYTHING that will restrict our Constitutional rights to own firearms. His voting record more than proves this. I'm waiting………

The money would have been better spent getting the Brady's the psychological help they needed in dealing with their tragedy.
Unfortunately, they allowed themselves to be used by ideological mercenaries.

True that Kevin. They are always bitching about an "Assault Weapons ban". Jim Brady was shot with a .22 revolver "Assault Pistol" LOL!. The Brady bunch is trying to kill the 2ndA by a thousand cuts.

When Bill Clinton was still Governor Clinton and a candidate for president, he toured LA after the riots there and made some remark about how a Brady type law (with its five day waiting period) would help prevent things like this.
Since California already had a fifteen day waiting period at the time, this remark did not get much further airplay.

I kept waiting for him to get the Dan Quayle treatment over it, but it never happened!

(Proof) Like the media is ever going to give gun owners a positive story. Were all just a bunch of drunk, animal killing,no brain rednecks to them. The MEDIA includes FOX News as well. If people don't understand an American citizens intense desire to "keep and bear arms" thats fine with me. But don't portray firearms owners as fools and idiots. Of the 90 million legal gun owners in America, only 15 million are hunters. The 2nd Amendment ain't about duck huntin'.

Who can name a recent shoot 'em up movie where the hero is an armed citizen?

(Kevin) or anyone, Is Chuck Bronson carrying a Mini 14 with a side folder, pistol grip, and Hi cap mag? If he is thats the first I've ever seen.

Judging by the previews I've seen, it looks like Clint Eastwood's new movie "Gran Torino" might fit the bill.

I think your correct. Clint has been in "Guns and Ammo magazine "a few times, so I'm pretty sure he's a pro-gunner.

    Death Sentence
    Brave One
    Four Brothers
    Shoot Em Up
    Die Hard 4

    Four Brothers

    Armed criminals…..you meant

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

I haven't seen the new Die Hard. Is John McClain retired or been fired?

  • 2Hotel9

Death Wish 20(Charles Bronson lying in hospital bed) "Oy, I wish I was dead!" Courtesy of Matt Groening.

Background checks are a breeze for legitimate gun buyers. Criminals simply skip them, or steal someone's identity, when acquiring weapons.

And yet, when a criminal commits a crime with a gun the first thing that happens is the firearms charge is dropped. So, why, again, do all these gun laws exist?

I really would like to know the reasoning behind some of these liberal-types. Perhaps they live in "disneyworld"
I have been trying to break thru and get the the "root source" of their thinking for decades.
Not many will reveal what causes them to believe what they do. Some do not even know or remember.
The last debate was interesting. I am waiting to continue with "what is the source of evil"

  • http://insanereindeer.blogspot.com/ Kenny

    Armed criminals…..you meant

Only one of them was a criminal in the movie.

I haven't seen the new Die Hard. Is John McClain retired or been fired?

No. My mistake. He's still got his shield.
It has some of the best (if least realistic) action out of the four. Fun movie…give it a rent.

  • 2Hotel9

Greg, Dick is a great philosopher. Should be in the pantheon of greats alongside Socrates, Newton, Moe the Bartender.

Kenny, I especially like when he shot himself to kill the bad guy, THAT was funny as hell. Oh, and the "Wizard"s command center, that immediately brought sannitized to mind.

Whoever came up with the hare-brained idea like the Brady Law ought to be shot in the head.

    Oh… wait..

  • Hannitized

Only one of them was a criminal in the movie.

It was a good movie, and I liked the story, but in reality they took the law into their own hands, and that makes them all criminals…..right?

Or do we only hold Barack Obama for spreading ashes in the water as a law breaker, and people who kill others grant a pass?

  • di butler

Die Hard 4 is playing on steady rotation on one of the pay channels, right now. Sorry, don't know which, I get TMC, HBO, SHO, MAX, so it is one of those. Two days ago it came on one of them like 6 times in one day. It was my fave of them all, too. I expected to not like it, thought BW might be too old to pull it off, but, naw. He can still go at least one more.As for Eastwood, I love him. Not neccessarily his ideals, but love those shoot 'em up movies. Gran Torino looks to be good.

  • Hannitized

Can anyone tell me why it is a considered a good thing when criminals take the law into their own hands?

Why is it evil and rotten for Obama to pour ashes into the ocean, but good that citizens break the law by taking it in their own hands and gunning another man down?

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

Poor Hanni! Can't tell fact from fiction, can't tell what the topic of the thread is, but he sure thinks he knows his ashes from a hole in the ground! Heh.

  • Hannitized

Leave it to Proof, to offer nothing but mere childish insults when the conservative delusions are challenged.

  • Hannitized

But that is OK Proof, what were you going to do…….agree that the conservatives just contradicted themselves out of partisan arrogance?

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

Leave it to Proof, to offer nothing but mere childish insults when the conservative delusions are challenged

Leave it to the little wooden headed troll, who wishes on a star that one day, he, too might have a real idea someday, to try to turn a thread about gun control into a thread about Obama and his EPA violation, which, last time I checked, there already was a thread about and our wooden headed troll had already commented there. (And had his ass handed to him there as well, if I recall correctly!)
If you can't contribute to the discussion at hand, keep your one note drumbeat to yourself. This is why children should be seen and not heard!
Try not to step on the cricket on your way over the cliff!

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

Let me see if I can make this relevent for the little troll:

I freely admit that the Brady Bill did NOTHING to deter either half-white or half-black men from dumping their grannies in the ocean. It also did next to nothing in deterring gun crime, at a tremendous cost to the taxpayers!

    Feel the love? Mahalo!

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

but good that citizens break the law by taking it in their own hands and gunning another man down

The courts and most state legislature have acknowledged that we do have a right to defend ourselves from bodily harm.

This movie may have gone beyond that, I haven't seen that, but defending yourself is NOT breaking the law.

  • Hannitized

    Whistler,

You correctly identify that the movie that is being celebrated (four brothers) went far beyond what is accepted by law as self defense.

Further, in some states, what some might term clear cut case in terms of self defense is still a dangerous proposition if you decide to act….especially in reaction to another person who is in peril.

The arguments being tossed around this site pertain to defending others in harms way…..a dangerous proposition to say the least. It makes sense emotionally why some would defend the argument of defense for others….but it is also a risky proposition and one that is worth discussion.

Now, if we could only find a way to get morons like Proof to actually engage in adult debate this conversation could go on, un-crapped on.

  • 2Hotel9

    Who celebrated anything?

Long story short, you have been proven wrong and a liar throughout this this thread, and laughed at continuously. The facts are against your lies, the statistics are against your lies. And both prove your lies to be wrong. So, spin and twirl and lie some more, it is all you ever do.

  • 2Hotel9

Toot, Proof, don't you just love how it has totally reversed what it was claiming just yesterday?!? Now it will twirl around claim to not be a Brady Bill supporter.

  • Hannitized

    2HotelWhiner,

You found your bottle of Hooch this morning? How did you manage to wake up this early in the A.M.?

  • Hannitized

I don't see a reason for people to have automatic weapons. At the same time, I don't see a reason to take guns away from people. I also don't see a reason for conceal and carry laws to apply to average citizens.

    There you have it.

  • 2Hotel9

And that twirl is complete. Now it will do another 180.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

I don't see a reason for people to have automatic weapons.

I don't see a reason for people to have surfboards, but you don't see me arguing for the confiscation, regulation or abolition of them, now, do you?

BTW, surfboards are not specifically protected under the Constitution, in case you've never read it!

  • 2Hotel9

I pay for my Class III tax stamp and I can own any automatic I want. Thats the law, and not a damned thing you can do about.

  • 2Hotel9

And whilst we are on that subject, no Constitutional guarantee covers cars, either.
