The “Barack The Magic Negro” Non-Scandal

MichaelW at QandO.net has the run-down on why it’s such a non-scandal (quick summary: The term “Barack the Magic Nego” was used in an LA Times column by a black, homosexual liberal to describe the use of Obama by white liberals to assuage their liberal guilt), and he was on the Scott Hennen Show today with Scott and I to explain further.
For my part, I continue to be amazed at how dishonest the media is. The lyrics to the song actually mention the LA Times as the originator of the term “Barack the Magic Negro.”

Barack the Magic Negro lives in D.C.
The L.A. Times, they called him that
‘Cause he’s not authentic like me.
Yeah, the guy from the L.A. paper
Said he makes guilty whites feel good
They’ll vote for him, and not for me
‘Cause he’s not from the hood.

Any reporter or talking head who spent even a minute or two exploring the origin of this parody song, as opposed to just judging it by its title, would have gotten the joke. But as always, the media has double standards.
Democrats get the benefit of the doubt. Republicans have to explain themselves.

Doesn’t the democrat party have a sitting senator who was a member of the KKK?

    DEMOCRAT KKK?? Strange.

  • Hawk

Most conservatives I know judge others by the content of their character.

It must just be a statistical anomoly to conservatives that all people with character are white?

African Americans make up approximately 13.4% of the population, yet in the last Senate only 1% were African American and currently there are none (pending the Illinois appointment).

  • Mickey

Is “negro” a bad word too? This is a parody played on Rush Limbaugh’s show. Democrats better get a thicker skin because this is nothing to get excited about. When you have walking stereotypes like Jesse Jackson , Al Sharpton and Barney Frank representing your party you really should be prepared to get some ribbing. But what do I know, I’m just a “typical white person”.

  • jpe

If the song were a commentary on the literary device of the magical negro, it’d be different. But it’s not; GOPers just want an excuse to say “negro” and make fun of black people.

  • NoJelly

GOPers just want an excuse to say “negro” and make fun of black people.

Wow, what a shining example of insight…Er, I mean racebaiting

Most conservatives I know judge others by the content of their character. Obama has shown nothing but the imaginary character of a speech writer. When he decides to show the American People who he really is, I can just imagine the racebaiting then…

Gosh, weren’t we told that once a black was elected President that there’d be no more work for you racebaiters?

Someone needs to call Dan Barreiro of KFAN 1130 AM and he Patt Kessler tried to pin this on the right.

Facts indeed do not matter, haven’t for some time. My parents are a perfect indication of that; Listen to any dinner table conversation and you’ll hear them not only prattle off the falsehoods but stand on them as incontrovertable fact “because they heard it on the news”. Right around half of the people in this country are like that, the long-term conditioning of the populace bears fruit.

  • NoJelly

You know jpe, it crosses my mind that you are either extremely young or absolutely ignorant of political history.

I suggest, should you have the attention span for it, that you read Chesapeake by James Michener. It is a dramatic approach to historic FACT. Unfortunately for those who make their minds from talking points and stereotypical hearsay, I doubt you could handle it.

The GOP was created from an abolitionist movement. Look it up and LEARN.

  • jpe

NoJelly, you can say that all you want, but it’s pretty glaringly obvious that this is a perfect opportunity for conservatives to repeat racial slurs. Why not enjoy it?

  • NoJelly

I believe it is institutionalized racism.

Yes, invented and perpetuated by the institutional racists, the Democrat party…

Please educate yourself. MLK was a registered Republican FOR A REASON…

  • Hawk

Apparently Hawk thinks that we’re supposed to set quotas for every governmental office rather than letting the voters decide who represents them best.

No, my point is that if you were really voting on the content of somebody’s character than statistically the countries leaders would mirror it’s population. As the Senate shows that is not the case. It would be a statistical anomoly for their to be NO African American Senators (or even one African American Senator). I, on the otherhand, do not believe it is a statistical anomoly. I believe it is institutionalized racism.

    Well said 2Hotel9!! Well said!!

    Wikipedia got thisw one right:

“Negro is a term referring to people of Black African ancestry. Prior to the shift in the lexicon of American and worldwide classification of race and ethnicity in the late 1960s, the appellation was accepted as a normal neutral formal term both by those of Black African descent as well as non-African blacks. Now it is often considered an ethnic slur. Although the term is considered archaic and is not common as a racist slur. The term is still used in some contexts for historical reasons such as in the name of the United Negro College Fund. “Negro” means “black” in Spanish, Portuguese, and ancient Italian[6] – all of which derive from the Latin niger (i.e. “black”).

I used this word from birth until, well even now, as it was so common and not a racist slur when I grew up, I sometimes use it unintentionally! People of color and most liberals just want to dictate how words are defined and how they can be used, even if they were never offensive before.

  • 2Hotel9

Oh, and hawkie? Since when was “Negro” a racist slur?

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

I guess that’s a fair enough answer Hawk.

You should temper your observation realizing that black politicians don’t represent all political views in the percentages of the country as a whole.

That is roughly half of the people are Republicans and half are Democrats. However blacks of chosen for the most part not to be part of the Democrat party.

It seems to me that if there is any racism it’s on the Dem side since their party has MOST of the blacks.

  • http://magyartruth.blogspot.com/ Chief RZ

The can dish it out, but can not take it back. 2Hotel9 is correct. I guess I am a French-English-German-American. I am not sure, but it should not matter except to those people who refuse to work.

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Apparently Hawk thinks that we’re supposed to set quotas for every governmental office rather than letting the voters decide who represents them best.

    I consider that racist.

  • NoJelly

You continue to exemplify what I already said.

You did know that idiot racebaiter slurs was in vogue, didn’t you?

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

Facts don’t matter, playing the race card does.

We expect the idiots on the left to play that game. Now I understand that Newt is piling on.

That guy needs to be removed from the party.

I personally find the term AA to be the stupidest thing ever. Also, NA. How about just American? Or what we are? some are black, some are white, some are brown, etc. People who are so thinned skin about what people call them are a joke. People who have self-confidence and self-worth do not give a shit what they are called, this is just a way for people who want to whine and feel oppressed to have something to say. And “white guilt?” That is the biggest joke ever. Guilt about what? I haven’t done shit to anyone, and feel absolutely zero guilt, nor will I ever. I don’t expect all Germans to feel guilty that some were Nazis many years ago and murdered my kin in ovens.

  • Hawk

Oh, and hawkie? Since when was “Negro” a racist slur?

I didn’t say it was. I don’t use it because African Americans don’t seem to like it and they deserve the dignity of choosing how others refer to them. Same with Native Americans.

It seems to me that if there is any racism it’s on the Dem side since their party has MOST of the blacks.

I think there is racism on both sides. But I do believe it is more prevelant in conservatives.

  • 2Hotel9

1.There is no such thing as African-American. The Right Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. made that clear in 1961.

    B. Racism is most deeply rooted in those individuals who refuse to let race go.

    Color blind society?

  • 2Hotel9

Why are there no Negroes in the Senate? Why are Negroes in America unwilling to vote for a “brother”?

As for Barack the Magic Negro, I just commented on the editorial in WaPo about this. Go read all the crying, guilt ridden honkys trying to get some street cred in that thread. It is hi-larious! And this is not a parody about Barri. It is a parody of, and about, Al Sharpton. And the bestest part? The most funniestest part of all?!?!? Barri and Rev Al both think it is funny as hell. They both said so when asked about it LAST JUNE.
