The Only President From The Last Half Century Less Popular Than Obama Is Richard Nixon

Written By:

Gallup has a ranking of Presidential popularity ratings going back roughly 50 years:

Obama’s current approval rating? 45%, lower than every President but Richard Nixon.

Of course, this isn’t entirely fair to Obama. Living under a President, and remembering a President, are two different things. It’s not always fair to judge sitting Presidents contemporaneously, and many responding to this poll probably never lived under Nixon or Kennedy and only know of them through their portrayals in popular culture.

That being said, it is significant that Obama is perceived less positively than any modern President with the exception of America’s most infamous modern President.

Hope for change.
