Thanks For Letting Me Know You Searched My Bag TSA

Share |

I meant to post on this earlier but I didn’t.
After arriving in my room in Washington DC (where I attended the Defending the American Dream summit) on Thursday I was sorting through my bag looking for some clean clothes when I came across a piece of paper I hadn’t put in there:

Apparently, during the trip from North Dakota to DC, someone at the TSA decided to go through my stuff. Nice of them to let me know.
When I found the paper it surprised me, though I’m not sure why. I’m sure that since 9/11 I’ve probably heard about this new security measure and forgotten about it. I’m sure that there was probably a sign or something at the airport notifying it to me as well (but given all the notifications in the airport who has time to read them all?). And I don’t travel much, so it’s not like there’s been a lot of opportunity for the TSA to randomly select me for search. But still, I was surprised.
I guess, along with having to all but disrobe while going through airport security checkpoints, this is another indignity Americans who travel by air are going to have to get used to suffering.
It bothers me a little bit, but then so does the idea of my plane blowing up in the air.
Mostly, I just feel bad for the person who has to go through all that luggage. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I know what my laundry usually smells like on the way home from a trip.

I don’t think this stuff is about making us safer, it’s about making us feel safer.

And used to being (and reminded of being) WATCHED….

Yes, there are many notices at the airport about their right to do this and that they do. In fact, if you read them, they tell you “DO NOT LOCK YOUR LUGGAGE” because they actually have the right to break the locks if necessary to search your bags. I’ve gotten that slip in my luggage on several occasions. It doesn’t really bother me that much…if you want to dig through my dirty underwear, be my guest. All my expensive stuff is in my carry-on anyway. :)

I have had these several times. The best one was coming back from Iraq:
This gun has been inspected and is unloaded!

Let’s see. North Dakota, beard, right winger. Hmm!!!! You were profiled by some left wing nut and subjected to a search.

I feel safer knowing that people like Rob and whistlers luggage is being looked through. Not really! But I did enjoy that airport security camera that showed the man slicing the cheese! HA!…

You don’t think the swabbie thing would have been set off by Rob’s dirty grunderwears?

TSA has a cadre of lawyers, paid exclusively out of Federal Tax Revenue, whose sole purpose is to bring lawsuits against TSA anytime they actually search or detain anyone who actually fits the Terrorist Profile. Don’t take my word for it, just make a pass through either of the 3 EEOC ,gov webpages. Its rather prominent.

I’m with the Chief RZ on this, and many other things..

Seriously.. The Country is being taken over by Commies!

A whole, big, bunch of Commies!

I got one of those notices once, of course NOT right away since the jerks decided to keep my bags in Atlanta while I flew on.

Of course it was nice to know who was responsible for breaking my kid’s airplane that I had carefully packed away.

I don’t think this stuff is about making us safer, it’s about making us feel safer.

Here’s fair warning to all Liberals…

Better ship those Porno collections by UPS, or something..

I don’t really have a problem with this. The knowledge that searches occur would deter using this as a method of terrorism and would also deter folks from shipping dangerous goods via airplane. More than likely, they opened the bag, ran a swabbie on a stick through it and stuck it in their machine analyzer thingy.

They make luggage locks that only take special TSA keys. SWA sent me one in the mail.

That is the point—we feel safer.
This issue got hashed out some time ago; we cannot rely on our intelligence since that would tell us that some people are possible threats and others are not. The 80 year old grandma with 6 inch knitting needles versus the the 20 year old who is travelling on a Pakistan visa. Hmmm. That is a tough choice- The grandma because her number comes up on the random selection for a pat down and luggage inspection.

We can be thankful that our military is not run that way.
