Texas’s $7.5 Million Dollar Prank Phone Call

Glad it’s not my money! Yet.

The massive child welfare operation that began in early April with a state raid of a West Texas ranch owned by a polygamous sect cost nearly $7.5 million in the first 19 days, according to records from Gov. Rick Perry’s office....

And the costs are likely to grow; it could be a year before Child Protective Services and the courts sort out whether the children — removed because of what state officials say is a pattern of abuse — can return to their parents.

Sort out?  I mean they had a valid reason to raid the compound right?  Now they’re going to screw around for a year until they decide that some families weren’t abusing their kids can have their kids back.

Assuming that any of these families are clean, I hope they sue the pants off of Governor Perry and every other head of an agency and what not in Texas.  The people of Texas should be outraged as well for the incompetence of the authorities here.

If crimes have been committed, where are the arrests and indictments?

Whister - you fool! Did you forget that more and more in this country you are guilty just for being accused until you have proven you are innocent? Did you forget that law enforcement needs no warrants specifying the limits of their powers and the breadth of their investigation? Did you forget that if they get phone calls alleging abuse in one case, even if that lead turns out to be false, law enforcement has full authority to break down doors, remove children from their parents, even authorize adoptions until they dig up evidence?

Geez Whistler, what world are you living in, where the Constitution has real meaning? That is fantasy land!

Such a sick situation… I have yet to hear any credible reason why all these children were stolen from their parents.

Gosh, I hate the people of CPS sometimes… so many of them should be lined up and shot!  They tear apart families and destroy so many good lives based on lies, rumors, and false testimonies.  It’s absurd that they have anywhere near the power they do…

I wish CPS would be completely scrapped and reworked from the ground up.  Make them fight for their power, they certainly don’t deserve the power they have.

As a Texan I find this repulsive however something like this could happen and has happen elsewhere in this country and in the world.  Remember those parents in Minnesota that were sent to prison on phony child abuse charges?

Correct, and if the socialists take control this November it will only get worse.

Texas attorney general’s two-year effort fails to unravel large-scale voter-fraud schemes

AUSTIN – More than two years ago, Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott pledged to root out what he called an epidemic of voter fraud in Texas.

He established a special unit in his office, tapped a $1.4 million federal crime-fighting grant and dispatched investigators.

Since then, Mr. Abbott has prosecuted 26 cases – all against Democrats, and almost all involving blacks or Hispanics, a review by The Dallas Morning News shows.

The cases usually have resulted in small fines and little or no jail time, and for all the extra attention, Mr. Abbott has not unraveled any large-scale schemes with the potential to swing elections.

...The cases his office pursued largely have involved mail-in ballots. In 18 of the 26 cases, the voters were eligible, votes were properly cast and no vote was changed – but the people who collected the ballots for mailing were prosecuted.

State law makes it a crime to carry someone else’s filled-out ballot to the mailbox, unless the carrier puts his or her own name and address on the envelope.

I guess everything looks bigger in Texas.

I saw where the State was going to require both the mother AND father undergo DNA testing to prove parenthood of each child BEFORE the child could be returned.
I completely understand the chaos involved here, but could you IMAGINE the outcry if the State also required DNA proof-testing of each child in the Welfare system?!
They’ve shot themselves in the foot on this one....

Texas only gets back 96 cents for every dollar it sends to Washington D.C., unlike Nd. which has always ranked high on the list of welfare states.

Kevin on May 19, 2008 at 08:11 pm

Don’t complain, California gets back like 80 cents on the dollar… we’re getting a bigger screwjob than you! :D

It’s always been the big states helping to pay for the smaller ones I think…

All those underage moms and incredible use of welfare....if they don’t get some convictions out of this one, they all need to be fired because they’re flat out incompetent.

And why shouldn’t recipients of welfare programs be required to identify the fathers of their children?  Sorry, but if it gets dads to help pay for it, it’s worth a few DNA tests.  Even better if it starts getting some prosecution of statutory rape and such.

But I’ve got to admit; yes, this does seem pretty much like flat out incompetence.  I hope I’m wrong.

Bike.  At least these people had a family with father and mother, although maybe multiples in some cases.  Go into the ghetto.  You will find no family unit.  Gangs, not only these examples of welfare use or abuse, but outright fraud on a massive scale.  But.  It is Politically incorrect to even suggest that certain people are abusing the system.

The worst thing to come out of this in addition to basic human can civil rights being totally ignored is that an anonymous call which is baseless provided PC?
Just another example of certain people being given unlimited powers and not being identified.  Remember Duke University!  The gal cried rape only when she was about to be put into a mental institution.  2-25% indeed.

Goodness, you guys really believe in seeing only one side of things dont you?

I remain patient, willing to let the state prove its case. So far in the media all we’ve seen are some “android” (expressionless, emotionless) parents refusing to answer probing questions.  The state hasn’t spoken up lately except to say there is evidence of pregnant underage girls (not as many as originally thought, but the count is not down at zero) and evidence of boys being raped.  No one has answered the questions yet of WHERE are all the older teenage boys.  What happens to them?

If you clowns were in charge of texas child services these girls & boys would still be getting raped while you sat fat, dumb & happy that you didn’t follow up on any phone calls because they might be a hoax.  Every post on this topic only whines about the initial phone call and suppression of rights etc.  You ignore the obvious, it was LEGAL and children were being harmed.

Very disingenuous & one sided.

I remain patient, willing to let the state prove its case.

And this is where we part ways.  I am patient as well in allowing the authorities to prove their case.  But until they can prove that MY child was abused, MY child should be in MY house and not a foster home.

We have this thing called “Innocent until proven guilty” in this country, and it is becoming increasingly clear (though the silence of these authorities) that many/most of these parents are not guilty of ANYTHING

Sphagnum.  I am with you on this totally.  Parental rights should trump any anonymous phone call or even the feelings of a nurse or teacher.  Actual physical damage should be proven before anyone takes a baby away from their parents.
The state under the federal Roe claim can kill a baby anytime it wants, but this is where we are going with socialism, democratic controlled, communism.
There were many people who dismissed my blog two and three years ago, but now, more and more people are calling a spade a spade and see that Obama, Nancy and the like are communists.

This Texas debacle really shows us what a republican run government is capable of.

It’s better to find this out now and throw them out before the gop infestation becomes uncontrollable.
