Terrorists Resort To Humorously Bad Lies For Propaganda

Pathetic…

An Iraqi insurgent propaganda video, containing what is described as a Christmas message from a U.S. soldier taped just before he was killed, appeared on dozens of Web sites and on the al Jazeera network.

But a lot about the video does not add up, including the fact that ABC News found the supposedly dead soldier is “alive and well” and present for duty, according to a U.S. Army spokesman at Fort Campbell, Ky.

“There are a whole bunch of lies on that tape,” said Lt. Col. Ed Loomis at Fort Campbell. “It is nothing but a total fabrication.”

Here’s the video.

Sort of reminds me of the time the terrorists tried to convince us that some grainy video of an over-sized GI Joe doll was actually one of our troops being held hostage.

Which, in turn, reminds me of something else that I think a lot of people miss when they think about Iraq.  The terrorists are absolutely desperate to win in Iraq.  So desperate that they’re willing to resort to pathetically bad propaganda efforts like those detailed above.

Which may sound obvious, but think about it.  The terrorists have to defeat us militarily (an impossibility) or undermine our will to fight to the point where we leave Iraq on our own (a distinct possibility given the cooperation of the media and Congressional Democrats) before the Iraqi government becomes strong enough to protect itself from the terrorists on its own.  The terrorists want us to leave Iraq so that they can form an army and attack the Iraqi government before it’s capable of defending itself.  And since they can’t force us to leave by force of arms they’re trying to get us to leave by making Iraq as chaotic as possible.

The frustrating thing is that all we have to do is stay in Iraq and keep the terrorists at bay until the Iraqis are ready to take over.  The Iraqis may not be moving as quickly as we want, but that’s beside the point.  The only way we can lose in Iraq is if we quit.
