Ten Years To Save The Globe?

Interesting...

A NEW worldwide movement backed by celebrities, musicians, politicians and business leaders is aiming to reverse the effects of global warming over the next decade.

Global Cool launched in London and LA today and is calling on one billion people to reduce their carbon emissions by just one tonne a year, for the next 10 years.

Boffins have found the climatic tipping point - when the climate becomes irreversibly damaged - can be turned back if global CO2 emissions are reduced by one billion tonnes a year.

Campaigners then hope cleaner, renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, water and hydrogen would have been developed.

So we’ve all got to reduce our emissions, eh?  How about we start with all the celebrities, musicians, politicians and business leaders backing this “worldwide movement” giving up their private jets, limos and multiple homes?

Somehow I don’t think that particular idea would go over so well with those folks.  They firmly believe that sacrifices need to be made.  They just expect we plebes to make them.

Yep, those are great plans. Lets just “hope” they figure it out.

But if it’s all the same to the Scissor Sisters, Orlando Bloom, The Killers, Flea, Kate Bosworth, Sienna Miller and Leonardo DiCaprio, I’ll keep drivinf my car and living my life and working for oil and gas as long as people keep buying their energy from the only economic option present at the time. That would be hydrocarbons.

Good luck with the plan though.

So we have 10 years to go totally Socialistic or the world will become too free for them to do anything about it?

Is there something magical about the number ten? Didn’t Ted Danson tell us that the oceans would be destroyed in ten years if we didn’t do something drastic?
And he said this back when he was popular and had hair, so it must have been more than ten years ago!

Those who think the party or the country, will be “taught a lesson” by handing the levers of power over to the liberals will learn a lesson, but it will be at the expense of our country and her liberties. And there are no guarantees that the party or the country will come out stronger, more conservative or better positioned to win elections against the incumbent liberals.

We don’t even have 10 years according to Al Gore.  The countdown and link to Rush’s commentary is on the upper right hand side of the page.  Proof, Rush also mentions Ted Danson in there.

So… When they make the Earth cooler (excuse me while I laugh)… And there are glaciers in New York, will George Bush be to blame?

I’m pretty sure that I know where the majority of our electricity will be coming from 10, 20 adn 30 yrs from now: Coal

I think that if the celebrities instruct their pilots not to start and warm up their private jets until the respective celebrity arrives at the airport, then they could easily save one ton / year worth of carbon.

That guy in Africa who cooks over an open fire would need to discontinue cooking any food for a year in order to save one ton of carbon.

Seems like a fair proposition.

We don’t even have 10 years according to Al Gore.

Does that mean that 10 years from now, he’ll finally shut up?

electnixon on January 31, 2007 at 06:02 am

No, he’ll just change his answer - hoping that people will forget.  Sadly, many people will.  Fortunately there is the bloggosphere and Rush Limbaugh to keep all of this info. (see the Reader’s Blog I just posted)

In 13 years, there will be an additional billion people on the planet.

What do we do about all of their carbon footprints?

Global Cool is exactly the sort of cause celebre that happens when a bunch of under-worked rich kids confuse notoriety with knowledge.

I suggest we call Martha Stewart...maybe she has some cleaning tips?

They can keep their jets, limos and homes.  If they really want to reduce CO2 emissions, then they can hold their breath.  I’ld support them in that endeavor!

Ten years???  Less than a millimicrosecond in the age of the solar system.

It appears that the climate change chicken littles have given up all pretenses of having scientific credibility narrowing down their approach to pure scare tactics.  Are the people stupid enought to buy into this fraud?  Probably.

If you’ve got a link send it to the fellow who keeps the list and I’m sure he’ll add it.

It means I’m not going to give Al Gore or any of these celebrities the time of day because they haven’t got a clue about what’s actually going on with the earth’s climate.

Samantha on January 31, 2007 at 05:23 pm

That’s alright. I have this bad habit of being vague. I’ve been working on it but still have a way to go.

In the mean time try asking a global warming activist about the climate on other planets in this solar system and the roll that CO2 plays in those atmospheres. Hell, ask them about the natural roll that it plays in our own atmosphere. Chances are they haven’t got a clue.

Samantha on January 31, 2007 at 06:15 pm

no problem, sam, you want me to start on that list today or tommorrow.  Naw, since I’ve got 10 years to fix everything I think I’ll wait until tommorrow.  Piece of cake…
