Ted Rall: Our Troops As Suicide Bombers

How can one man be capable of so much bitter hatred?

image

The lunatic left has long been enamored with drawing moral parallels between our troops and our enemies.  Michael Moore famously called the terrorists in Iraq “freedom fighters,” implying that they were simply fighting against American imperialism.  The Abu Ghraib fiasco, as well as baseless accusations about detainee treatment at the US detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, have caused many on the left to claim that our country is as bad or worse as the Islamic extremists we fight against.

And now Rall tries to draw parallels between our troops and suicide bombers.

The problem with parallels like this is that while our fighting forces may not be perfect, and we may make mistakes like Abu Ghraib, we aren’t slaughtering civilians on purpose.  And our goal is not the same as the terrorists.  Where they seek to inflict extremist Islamic rule on the people - in order to treat women like property, murder non-believers, and generally oppress the masses - we seek freedom.  Liberty.  Open markets and free expression.

So as imperfect as our troops may be, and even though they may make bloody mistakes on the battlefield, we aren’t fighting for the same thing as the terrorists.  And that makes all the difference in the world.

Update: Cassy Fiano has more, including the fact that Rall almost won a Pulitzer Prize.

Which absolutely baffles the mind.

Damn that lunatic left! They give the responsible left a bad name indeed. Incidentally, I think the point of Rall’s cartoon is that simplistic and kneejerk responses properly belong to the enemy and not to our side. I don’t agree with everything in the strip but it is a useful reminder of why we occupy the moral high ground in this fight.

Sorry for delaying the start of liberal bashing..I’m sure I’ll be back. wink

I think the most disturbing thing is not that Ted Rall is a hate-filled sack of pus, it’s that there are enough other hate-filled sacks of pus out there that this pinhead keeps his job!

Despite their protests that while they are against the war in Iraq they still support our troops, the Left have always hated the military. They think only dumb rednecks and criminals join the military, that the military are all war mongers and that they are a threat to our country. This is just a comic book version of what they really feel.

The far left not only hate the military, they hate anyone with police power.  They are pacifists who won’t commit or condone violence for any reason and consider themselves morally superior because of it.

Those who are hypocrites would still call the police to take down an intruder in their homes.

Typical. Not only is he a disgusting little twit, he’s a misinformed little twit. A Guard or Reservist’s employer CAN’T fire them for meeting their obligations. There are federal laws in place to prevent just that. Rall just assumes that it could happen so he puts it out there as such.

Smug little bastard.

You shouldn’t talk about Mike like that.

Really, Mike?  Because it appears to me as though the point of Rall’s cartoon is to insult our troops and demean their service.

The purpose of government shouldn’t be to do good, but simply to refrain from doing evil.

I’m just saying what I got out of it Rob. Your interpretation could be right although it wouldn’t be in keeping with the history of Rall’s work. I’m just a sack of pus with an opinion about a cartoon is all.

Yes it is. Ted Rall has a history of pissing on American troops. The cartoon above is just a continuation of that.

Why are you defending him? How can you see the cartoon as anything other than an insult to U.S. troops?

The last part of that is correct, Elisa.  The first part isn’t borne out by the facts.  From slashing Repub tires in Michigan, to burning resorts out west, libtards are a violent, mean bunch of weiners.  They work on the assumption that brain stems won’t notice that what they say doesn’t equate to what they actually do.  That this strategy is effective is proved by looking at how many sphincters self-identify with the Demoncratis Party.

Because I see the cartoon as essentially about suicide bombers sent to cause mayhem,  soldiers sent to war and the similar motivations and justifications used in each case. If anything, the criticism is directed at the cynicism of the leaders on both sides who send young people into “battle” and those who mindlessly cheer them on from the sidelines.

It’s not a particularly good cartoon having considered it over night, certainly far from his best IMO.

Yawn…

Mike,

Islamo fascism is a real threat to the world. You may want to live in a fantacy, but the rest of us can not risk it.
Recorded history has taught us that societies and cultures that are predicated on the glorification of death, violence, hate and war will always emerge as failed societies. Societies that are predicated on values, life and liberty are societies that endure and prosper.

Which one do you live in Mike?

Mickey on July 15, 2007 at 05:18 pm

Mickey…the second one. Maybe some time you can let me know why you ask.

I understand the opinions about Rall and I agree completely. I just don’t see where he differs much from Ann Coulter. Certainly different sides of an issue but still very much the same approach. Rall presents his facts in a terrible fashion and Coulter also presents hers in a terrible fashion. Although it is too bad that she can’t do it at one time approach like Rall ... no, she never seems to shut up. (ok, so that’s probably a gender thing so I’ll excuse her on that) Nonetheless, they are both extremely irritating if not plain arrogant.

The cartoonist is wrong in so many ways. Just the fact that he has the right to be wrong is a testament to our values as a nation. If he were in the middle east he would be drawing with his feet because his arms would be cut off.

Perhaps an improvement.

Mickey on July 16, 2007 at 06:06 am

YES.. YES, Mickey, I agree! Vast improvement is needed. Just the same as I thought of Coulter. Just because we don’t agree with what Rall is saying doesn’t make his style any different than hers.

I’ve never seen Ann Coulter berate a service member. As far as I can tell she only attacks liberals and vice versa.

That is true Mickey but that still does not distinguish the two apart. When Rall berates an issue we find him offensive and morally wrong but Coulter does the same on issues the opposing side finds offensive and wrong also. I am just saying that they both present in the same vulgar impolite way but it’s only wrong when Rall does it because we don’t agree with his opinion.

Better keep shoveling, Mike.  If you don’t, you’re going to end up waste deep in your own horse manure.

“Similar motivations and justifications?”  Have you been reading the newspaper with your eyes closed again?

My son is in the national guard - an I don’t appreciate this “opinionate” individual’s comments at all! But being the Christian man that I am I am willing to forgive if he repents; otherwise God will be his judge!! Opinions are like noses - everyone has one. Try doing the research nd report something that is truthful for a chamge!! Like the rebuilt schools, the economic increases, the people formerly under bondage to uncaring dictators that thank you r troops for what they do, et….you know - responsible reporting. God bless America - and America should try blessing God.
