Ted Kennedy Hospitalized With “Stroke Like Symptoms”

Yikes…

BOSTON (AP) — Sen. Edward M. Kennedy was hospitalized Saturday after becoming ill at his home, his office said. There was no immediate word on his condition.

A knowledgeable official said the Massachusetts Democrat was in the hospital after suffering stroke-like symptoms. The official declined to be identified by name, citing the sensitivity of the events.

Kennedy spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter confirmed in a statement that Kennedy went to Cape Cod Hospital on Saturday morning “after feeling ill at his home.” After discussion with his doctors in Boston, Kennedy was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for further examination.

“He is currently under evaluation that information will be released as it becomes available,” she said.

I detest Ted Kennedy’s politics, but I hope he’s able to make a full and speedy recovery from whatever this is.

On a related note, I’ve often wondered why politicians hang on to their offices even as their health fails and even the most routine of functions becomes a struggle.  I watch Ted Kennedy snoozing in the Senate chamber Senator Robert Byrd hobbling around Washington DC on canes and I wonder: Why don’t these guys just give it up?  Is the allure of power really that great?

At this stage of the game people like Ted Kennedy have probably achieved all they’re going to career-wise.  Why not retire and spend your sunset years in leisure with friends and family?

Partisanship aside, it pains me to see these people clinging to their political careers even as their health fails them.

The elderly in the USA are largely considered irrelevant.
Power and money prevent that situation and maintain ones relevance in society.

There’s a huge narcissism in play. They not only believe that if they leave, the EEEEEEEEEVIL republicans might get their seats...but that they are the only thing that makes the government “work”. Look at the ridiculousness of Byrd calling himself the “conscience of the Senate” or Ted Kennedy calling himself a “Constitutional scholor”.

I’ve often wondered why politicians hang on to their offices

It’s the addiction to power.

Kevin on May 17, 2008 at 12:25 pm

Look at some of these politicians if you ran a business like they do the Government they would be fired a long time ago. What the hell would Ted Kennedy do if he wasn’t in the senate? Seriously, he more money that he can shake a stick at.

Rob,

Ted Kennedy has a strong passion for improving this country, regardless of how old he is and he for a man to give up his passion in life will only worsen his health condition. Interesting that you mention Robert Byrd and not McCain. That man is old.

Ted Kennedy has a strong passion for improving this country

The way he improved it for Mary Jo Kopechne? Maybe he can apologize in person soon?

I regret to say I cannot be thus generous, I hope this stops him from serving in the Senate, though the Democrats will allow a comatose liberal keep office and keep voting. Teddy is one of the most vile and dangerous people in America and I have no sympathy for him or his family.

Kennedy doesn’t want power. Some people have no identity other than what they do. Take that away and they have no reason for living. Some people, like some soldiers, believe that they are doing what is the best for the country. He has served his country to the best of his ability.

Puzzlefeet: So, for me to be a real Christian, according to your holy standards (I am sure you are above all reproach), I should show compassion for and praise an extreme Leftist that has been at the forefront of much of the anti-Christian legislsation in this country? Plus, as usual you make the mistake of thinking that if we say we are a Christian we must be perfect, we must not be human, we must never be angry, right? Wrong! We are saved, not perfect! When I see a man that is an enemy of liberty and Christ, I won’t play the hypocrite for you and be sad and wish him well.

Spartacus:

you sir, are an example of why the left feels the right lacks compassion and is evil.

Why? That is an old liberal trick comrade! Those on the Left think enslaving millions upon millions of people to the welfare state is compassionate! On the right we say give them the tools and the opportunity to succeed on their own and they won’t need to suck off the national tit all their lives. Enslavement to welfare is still slavery and the Left are their Plantation Masters.

Is it then your definition of Christianity and Conservatism that if we hear Bin Laden is sick and dying, we should offer sincere expressions of our compassion, our sadness at his suffering? Did you mourn the passing of Arafat? No, it is because Kennedy and the Kenndy clan have made themselves into American Royalty that you are thus sensitive, not that he is any better than Arafat or Bin Laden. Teddy is strongly anti-Christian, he is a racist, he is a socialist, a drunk, a womanizer; in short, he is everything we should despise in a legislator, he believes he has the divine right to rule over us all, to tell us what to do with our lives, he tells us if we don’t think like he does, it is a hate crime, and on and on; but, what do we hear, crying and wailing for this so-called great man, even by conservatives. Strange indeed.

By the way to all you Kennedy lovers, he is out of danger, get off your knees, he ordered out for his dinner and is being worshipped every 5 minutes even on FOX, so get a grip your man is being honored not ignored.

Lestat: Perhaps I do have a double standard, I can’t be sure; but I honestly don’t see the Bush family having the feeling they are royalty, in fact they seem reticent to toot their own horn, IMO.

There are certain liberals that seem to seriously ruffle my feathers, the Kennedy’s top the list. The funny thing was, when I was young I voted for Jack and Robert, admired them both, was genuinely sad when both were killed, I sat by the television for days afterward soaking in every detail; and only over time have I seem them as less than splendid folk. Of course, Ted’s extreme liberalism may have tainted my recollections of Jack and Robert.

As I said, I admit I may have a double standard, but that is life, isn’t it? We all have double standards about certain things.

Of course he is Catholic so He might have to keep him in suspense in purgatory for awhile kneeling and saying hail Mary’s for all the shenanigans he has pulled.  How much does it cost a soul to encourage the death of babies and other innocents, both personally and through policy?  How damning is it to encourage the dependency of your fellow citizens on the federal govt?

I was going to leave the thread to give you some peace, as your love for good old Teddy is making you really angry when others don’t share it! The devil made me do it was a joke. Oh, I forgot you have no sense of humor at all. I apologize for my having a sense of humor at such a tragic, dark and terrible hour for America!

You started out by making a big deal because of a very mild statement I made that I didn’t share any compassion about Teddy’s stroke, or brain fart or whatever it was he had; and you instantly jumped on your anti-Christian swayback horse, whipped it to death so much you are in serious danger of suffering a massive brain fart yourself. Calm down! To many, many conservatives Teddy really is a low life shit and at least we are not hypcrtites pretending to be shedding tears about his situation. Besides, before I ever commented, Teddy was ordering out for his lobster thermador, a case of whiskey and a few broads, so he wasn’t in any real danger at that point anyway. (Okay, I confess he just ordered out for food, no menu and I added the rest.)

Your pretense at telling others how to behave like Christians when you never do, is quite amusing. You really have an anger problem friend and a false sense of self-righteousness that will be your downfall. Please take a Midol and get off your feet, you are menstruating. Get some rest and ask God to forgive my many shortcomings will ya?

Spartacus: You seem like a reasonable fellow, if you get all caught up in defending Teddy or getting upset because others don’t feel terribly uspet about his situation, it is wasted energy. I just don’t like the guy, haven’t for decades, though I probably should have exercised more wisdom and kept my lack of compassion and lack of liking for him to myself. Puzzled: You are looking in a mirror and everything you say against me actually is aimed at yourself! Really, the old adage applies, when you are pointing a finger at me, three more on the same hand are pointing at yourself. Didn’t the Lord say something about taking the log out of your own eye before trying to take the splinter out of another person’s eye? It is much easier to remove the faults of another person once you have removed all faults from your own life and are perfect; of course, I have no hopes of such perfection in this life.

Every word of the Lord is a commandment from God, I did not say it was from the 10 Commandments, but Jesus (God) did command us not to judge others or He would judge us exactly and in the same measure we are judging them. But, you knew that, you are just brain farting again.

You should really learn to laugh more, have fun and not make everything into Armageddon with a scorched earth policy and use every excuse you can find to attack Christians. This is just a freaking blog, sorry Rob but it is, it is not life and death, there is actually very little reason for any anger at all over anything ever said here. I have gotten irritated and only rarely angry, and never was there any real justfication for the anger.

You must learn to relax, take things a bit less seriously and whenever possible, just have fun. If we strongly disagree, so what, we’ll not change the world or even each other, make your points, I’ll make mine and no need to go away angry.

One last point: Despite your false charges against me, I hate no one and I never, I mean never speak from a position of hatred for another human being. You can keep saying it if it makes you feel good, as I want you to be happy, but guess what, it just ain’t true.

If you are female, I was not aware of that fact. The menstruating line was humor, it was saying you seemed to be over emotional over this issue, but I keep forgetting humor is foreign to you.

It is very strange to me that if Puzzled, McCrackhead and others are to be truly consistent, I should expect that they felt genuine sorrow to the point of the many tears they have shed over Teddy and deep compassion for Arafat when his health declined and he died. They should have felt sorrow and went into mourning over Saddam. I should expect them to wail and wear sackcloth and ashes if and when Bin Laden gets sick and/or dies. If not, they are hypocrites.

I would be genuinely concerned for Ted’s soul and eternal fate and I would hope that he is saved when he enters eternity, but what he has done to this country prevents me from feeling any real sorrow for his situation, if for no other reason, because a long hopsital stay or forced retirement might keep him from more of his anti-American and anti-Christian behavior in the future.

Lastly, it seems to me that this is just a stinking politicxal blog, it is not life and death, the world won’t be changed and I have almost never witnessed anyone here changing their opinions on issues, because of points made by someone else making comments here. There is virtually no excuse for anger, for major emotional upset, we are just debatingt issues and expressing our opinions. When people like Puzzled take every issue as a matter for warfare, anger, hatred and geting emotionally tied in knots, I don’t think blogging is physically, emotionally or spiritually healthy for them. It seems to me they have serious emotional problems when they can get so angry and go off the deep end over mere words. But, IMO it is because they are not secure at all in their beliefs, every challenge, every difference of opinion shakes the foundations of those beliefs and they react out of fear; not fear of me, but fearful they are wrong and they hope by loudly and angrily attacking the other person they can silence all contrary thoughts to their own and return to a feeling of security in their very frail beliefs, IMO.

Most of the long, protracted arguments here are totally unnecessary, if people were just a little more mature and didn’t make everything under the sun a matter of life and death.

Neiman:  A lot of “GOTCHA!” crap has been posted here.  Ignore it.

These comments are quite humorous.

Nunez on May 18, 2008 at 02:36 pm

Once again, Neiman sets off on another diatribe, claiming every else is angry.  But then we read his screed and one has to wonder who the angry person is.  Any more of his anti-Christian ramblings and we’ll all know for sure he is no Christian, just plays one on this “stinking blog”.

Puzzlefeet on May 18, 2008 at 03:23 pm

puzz, you keep screeching about how much you hate and despise this blog, and yet you keep toddling in here and spewing your anti-human, anti-American and anti-christian shit. Why is that?

And which Commandment is"judge not lest ye be judged”? You still have not backed up that bit of anti-christian shit.

Dear Puzzled:
Don’t worry dear, we will be patient with you until you get psychiatric help, get your thorazine and stop treating every freaking comment under every thread as freaking life and death.

Gees Louise, you must be an absolute scream at parties and family reunions. Your mother makes Turkey at Thanksgiving, she makes Corn Bread stuffing instead of your favorite and I am sure you treat it as a Republican plot to destroy your Thanksgiving, then you lecture your dad on what a piss poor husband he was to allow your mother to be so freaking stupid. Then at parties you lecture all your friends on how every freaking joke was politically incorrect and leave them all just roaring with freaking laughter - after you leave.

Go as fast as you can to Hollywood Video and get a dozen three stooges movies, watch them 24/7 until you get a sense of freaking humor. Then, move back home, go to your old room, lock the door and stay there until you grow the hell up.

Oh, if the above two recommendations fail, buy a ton of marijuana and a truck load of vodka and stay drunk and stoned so people can stand being around you for 5 freaking seconds. Honestly, all joking aside you seem to have some serious emotional problems!

Neiman on May 18, 2008 at 04:55 pm

Hey, Hotel, why don’t you go back and read the entire thread.  I never claimed “judge not lest ye be judged” was a commandment, Neiman did.  Again, please read for comprehension.

I never said I despised this blog.  Again if you will simply read for comprehension, you will not that I put “stinking blog” in quotes. Again, it was taken from Neiman’s post.  Again, please try to keep up, you’re having quite the problem with this today.

My my, Neiman, I have indeed struck a nerve with you.  Careful, now boy, you don’t wanna bust a carotid.  Obviously, you can’t handle the truth! (hat tip to Jack Nicholson)

Puzzlefeet on May 18, 2008 at 05:36 pm

In every thread you defecate in you end up pronouncing how much you hate this blog and despise all the people who post and comment here. And yet, you refuse to leave. And going through the thread I see where you say that Nman called it a Commandment, just not where HE does so.

So, is it the Commandment after the one making healthcare a “right”, or before the one about trying again?

Hotel, once again you prove your utter lack of reading comprehension.

Neiman posted at 7:01 p.m. the following:

Puzzle: How about your violating the commandment to judge not lest ye be judged, looks like you do that a lot?

Now toddle on and look for that pig you lost.

Puzzlefeet on May 19, 2008 at 04:39 am

And you still have not told us where this Commandment you keep proclaiming is. Exactly where does it fall in the list?

2Hotel9,

anti-American

May we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.

When someone doesn’t agree with you about politics, it’s ignorant to claim them to be ‘anti-American.’

Neiman,

Don’t worry dear, we will be patient with you until you get psychiatric help, get your thorazine and stop treating every freaking comment under every thread as freaking life and death.

And you continue to dig your own hole. The rest of your post is nonsense with no substance.

Nunez on May 19, 2008 at 12:15 pm

Nunez, you need to hang around and acquaint yourself with the America-hate spewers. Dress it up and slap lipstick on it, it is still a pig.

No,no, it’s your pig, Hotel, really, did you finally find it?  You would know pigs because because recognizing a pig doesn’t require any reading comprehension

Puzzlefeet on May 19, 2008 at 04:15 pm

And you still have not told us which Commandment it is. Was it handed down by our God, or your God, Marx. Come on, Unionscum, enlighten us.

Gee, now where have I heard that before??

Is that all you’ve got Hotel, or do you have more “you’re anti-american” accusations hiding up your sleeve?

Hannitized on May 20, 2008 at 03:50 am

Your America-hate spew, in every thread you defecate in, speaks for itself.
