Teachers Aren’t The Only Ones To Blame For Our Poor Schools
There are parents who let their kids get away with this kind of nonsense too.
There are parents who let their kids get away with this kind of nonsense too.
My wife was a high school english teacher about a decade ago in Las Vegas. She had a first period student who was continually late to class and thus got detention, repeatedly. The boy’s mother called my wife to protest and came with “it is hard to get up early and get to school on time, can’t you give him a break?” as an excuse. Some parents just refuse to do what is right for their kids, and often go to great lengths as we see in this column set a terrible example for thier kids.

Honestly, I’ve never blamed the teachers. Parents deserve the lions share of the blame.
Of course, that sounds like personal responsibility doesn’t it?
It IS hard to get up for school. Kids need more sleep than adults yet school starts really early in the morning so parents can drop their kids off before heading out. If kids weren’t half asleep for school it’d be easier for them to pay attention.
Then go to bed earlier.
Anna. Exactly. Get to bed early, stop partying all night and let parents lead the way. Some schools start at 9:30. But. it wouldn’t matter when the schools started, the slackers would always have something to say or an excuse why they do not like being told what to do.
