Tea Party Update: Vote For The Best Signs To Win A $500 Prize, Why KFYR Didn’t Cover The Event

Those of you wanting to vote for the best sign at the recent Rally on the Mall tea party can click here. Voting will begin next week.
Also, if you’re wondering why this event didn’t get any coverage from KFYR (despite being the largest single protest event in state history) one SAB reader emailed to ask and got this response:

We covered the earlier tea party in Bismarck and did not see a reason to cover the same event all over again. I’m sure there are going to be many “tea parties” in the future and we will not be covering all of them either. Repeating the same information over and over again is not news.

With that logic, they wouldn’t cover the Republican or Democrat conventions. Or the state basketball championships. Or the World Series. Or the Super Bowl.
Why not just be honest about it? They didn’t cover the tea parties because they’re a bunch of liberals and they’re too scared to give this movement any attention.
This is called “whistling by the graveyard.”
Again, if you want quality radio in the upper midwest region, why listen to KFYR when AM1100 is available?

I remember during the last campaign I asked the Herald why they didn’t cover a particular event and was told that it wasn’t newsworthy and that they didn’t have the manpower. Our event had six candidates for various state offices raising money for various causes and it wasn’t newsworthy. I pick up the Herald and I see an article on a new paint job at a church in Crookston. Hmmm…

When I worked at KFYR I always used the phrase, “if something happens, it’s news to us!”

  • Buzz

Cons crying, old news, no news. Do you see the “new” in news? It is because it is new stuff, stuff you haven’t heard before.

    Waaa Waaa, Obama sucks…

    Sniff Sniff, spending sucks…

Snivel Snivel, lets kill some more brown people…

    Where is the “new”s there?

Where did anyone say “kill more brown people?” The left is so obsessed with color it is crazy.

Buzz, SAB’s resident Klansman is more obsessed with race than color.

The fact that he’s not too bright may confuse the issue for some. (Mostly Buzz!)

    Champ,

Where did anyone say “kill more brown people?” The left is so obsessed with color it is crazy. So do people of color who attend tea parties or vote GOP want to “kill brown people”?
    Give me a break.

I agree and when I am back in Fargo and eastern ND, I get great reception and listen to AM1100; however, as I head west to Bismarck and northern Emmons County, the great reception being to fade near Jamestown and I loose the station shorty there after. AM1100 needs to acquire a Bismarck radio station and blast its programing into the central and western parts of both Dakotas. I know Scott Hennens’s show is picked up by a local Bismarck station, but it signal is week and I can’t receive it just SE of Bismarck.

Well it’s America’s birthday. The anniversary of the original limited government movement. Puts him in a bad mood.

Well maybe he’ll light a short fuse tonight….nahh, I won’t wish that upon him today, but maybe tomorrow!

True, you need “New” information, like “A Summary of the Life of Michael Jackson.”

    again,
    and again,
    and again.

There isn’t enough sensationalism at the Tea Parties to warrant coverage. No human pathos or even a goody goody feeling. Double edged sword; If you get more fringe people showing up with more provocative signs say someone hanging in effigy or an Obama flag being burned you will get you publicity. Of course that would legitimize the perception that you are all a bunch of nutters. Tough job to legitimize something that is legit. A groundswell of just conservatives isn’t going to cut it especially if you hold the narrow definition. The appeal has to be to us centrists. The left you will never get.

I and many other people have called 1270 Am many times, 663-1270 and basically told them to get their shit together. Somedays their signal is good, but most of the time it SUCKS. They need new management or better employees because they are losing listeners everyday her in Bismarck.

  • badlands4

Well, at least most of you can pick up some stations, we get practically none, and the ones that do come in up here are so scratchy, as to be unbearable to listen to…sigh
