Taking Chance on HBO Tonight

I hadn’t been paying this too much attention, since I haven’t bothered to hook up to cable or satellite since relocating to California, but I understand that this film does justice to the story. If you have HBO, you might want to tune in tonight.
For those of you cableless like me, the story can be found here.

BB if you oppose America so much just GTFO. We don’t need you here and we don’t want you here. Your attempt to tarnish the military by even trying to say that you were part of it is not working. Keep you bullcrap on your anti-semit blog and never bring it here to try and poison people’s minds. Oh yeah, never try and call anyone racist while your blog is full of racist crap.

  • thejackle

nope, I don’t, I don’t like taking orders, but I respect and admire those that are in any branch of the military

Carol: I’d seen the ads, too! But knowing that HBO sometimes tilts left of center, I was afraid of what kind of treatment they might try to give it. It seems, to their credit, that they are just telling the story pretty much the way it happened.

  • thejackle

Even if that bullcrap is true not everything needs to be about us idiot (BTW that’s your new name). I know Kurds who had to run and fight their way out of Iraq while sadam dumped acid on them. sadam killed people like crazy just because he wanted to. If all your lies were even true, we still should have done what we did in order to help those he targeted.

  • Neiman

It’s interesting none of the Iraq experts here have ever been to Iraq.

Assuming you have never been to Vietnam, are you disqualified from ever speaking about that war? If I have family that have served and are serving in Iraq, does the fact I have not been there physically disqualify me? What does having served in Iraq have to do with our ability to speak about the policy or to honor a hero of that war?

The truth is, you dishonored an authentic American Hero that died serving America, protecting his fellow Marines and liberating millions of Iraqi’s from tryanny! You are disgusting, pathetic and even if you wore the Marine uniform, I am sure it was the branch with skirts!

As Buigs Bunny would say, regarding you. “what a Maroon!”

  • sayanything-2407

    RR (troll):

    Semper Fidelis and Peace…

He repeats this because it MEANS something to us, and those who serve. He is trying to bait and egg on those of us who honor the military members who serve; brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, fathers and mothers.

He says this not because it means anything to him; he says it because he wants to get a rise out of those of us who actually honor and respect our miltary men and women.

    Troll-ish behaviour.

    Rob:

It was excellent, and not one bit of politics in it one way or the other.

    Good stuff.

I was listening to the movie review on the medved show driving home Friday, and heard he gave this 4 stars. Due to the fact there was no political leanings either way. It was a straight tail of respect and honor of the military, and while it talked about violence, it did not show any.

    It was highly recommended.

  • http://wizbangblog.com/ Jay Tea

There is nothing “heroic” about an occupation.

    Two words, asswipe:

    Berlin Airlift.

Nice tactic. Start off with something outrageously inflammatory, then go all peaceful and passive when people react just as you intended them to. I think calling you an “asswipe” might have been too kind — at least toilet paper serves a useful purpose.

You decided to stand on this young hero’s grave and make your grand political statement on the fresh-turned soil, and then act all surprised and dismayed and morally superior when others protest your desecration. Screw you, fuck-for-brains.

Rather than attack me, how about defend your position?

How about defending yours with some real data? All you have done is continuously rant how we shouldn’t be in Iraq.

Again, y’all have no clue about Iraq. Thank you for stating it for me. There is nothing heroic about an occupation.

People died over there. They willingly put themselves in danger for the betterment of others.

The “truth” Norway Boy has been is that America is evil, all AMerican’s deserve death, and socialism is its religion. Not surprising for some one who refused to serve the US in any capacity whatsoever.

As for Gen Butler, it is the only one who mentioned the man, and did so as a strawman distraction, and nothing more.

  • thejackle

Screw you dude for slaming my cousin. He fought in the front lines in Iraq and saved his troops when they all should have been dead. The reson we hear of no heroics is idiots like you and idiots in the media trying to make our troops look evil. If you also believe that then you were never there.

  • Kidtransport

You’re close to right RR. We SHOULD never have been in Afghanistan or Iraq if Pres Clinton had been responding to numerous attacks by AQ on the US interests. They were at war with us for many years and Clinton ignored it. I am afraid we have another pres right now who wants to ignore danger and “hope” it goes away.

Rugby Reader, WHY did you Enlist If you Objected to the War in Iraq? Why not go join Code Pink, OR Cindy Sheehan, instead of a War you are so opposed to? Agitators have been around forever. Masking as a Marine as you sit Behind a computer trashing a young Marine who died while serving his Country is a Cowardly, Safe and Cushy way to trash a Marine who died securing Freedom and Democracy. You don’t sound like any Marine I have ever known. I don’t believe you are a Marine. You certainly don’t deserve the title of Marine.

    RR:
One: I know more about the cost of that war in Iraq than you will ever know! While I served in Vietnam, I have had family that served and are serving in Iraq and I know what it cost!

Two: The record is clear about why we went into Iraq, whether or not the WMD’s were found, we went in with Congressional approval, with U.N. approval and with overwhelming, international intellignece data that supported that action. Just because you disagree wuth our going in there, you were not CIC and your opinion has little value.

Three: You continue to ignore the main issue, like a craven coward; that being, you used this story about an authentic American hero to attack Bush like any advanced BDS sufferer, and doing so dishonored this fine Marine in the process. Shame on you!

Speaking about clueless. Dimwit, the war is effectively over so get over it. Time to move on.

Should we have been IraQ? Who knows. The decision was made WHICH WAS SUPPORTED BY CONGRESS BOTH DEMS AND REPS so let it rest. Hindsight serves no good purpose to anyone especially yourself because you could be doing something productive instead of beating this dead horse.

  • Neiman

If RR was a Marine, he was a BAM (Broad Assed Marine), a female Marine and probably a bitch for a bull dike BAM!

Not one lie has ever been proven on Bush’s part, not one, to justify the war. He had the support of Congress, many of whom were even more in favor of war in Iraq, including most Democrats and the all had the exact intelligence briefings as did Bush. So, if Bush lied, so did they all.

Nonetheless, despite cowards like RR and some other weenies that opposed the Iraq War, whether or not Bush or anyone else lied had nothing at all to do with whether or not this Marine and the Colonel deserved these honors; and any real Marine or Patriot would have held back their BDS long enough to just honor such heroes and attack Bush elsewhere.

I would never drink with ignorant America haters like RR!

  • http://norseberserker.blogspot.com/ Rugby Reader

Nothing we’ve done in Iraq serves to improve our national security. The only thing our military in Iraq has done is enrich the corrupt war-profiteers such as KBR and General Dynamics.

  • TomTom

Sadly..Ameica has spawned many millions of Half-Breed, non American citizens that have no business calling themselves Americans. As usual…the brave soldiers like Chance give their lives for these pitiful examples of humanity. These are the Obama sheep…the deadbeat society who lives without morals, salvation, or common decency.

  • Neiman

Thge worst part of this scumbag’s nonsense is his insistence that no soldier can commit an heroic act in a war he considers illegal. What does heroism have to do with politics? Nothing! It is a soldier or in this case a Marine risking and losing his life to save others. That is the act of a true hero!

In a way I also see Bush as heroic in the sense that he never wavered in his efforts to defeat the terrorist at home and abroad, he stood fast during horrible, vicious attacks at home and internationally. In short he took many, many very hard political body blows, when he could have ended this war in a thousand ways a long timer ago and used that to restore his political popularity; but he never traded his core convictions, his commitment to our troops or our nation against the Islamic terrorists for cheap, short term political gains. Very few men could ever suffer such attacks and not bow to public opinion: Washington did as a General, Lincoln did, in many ways FDR did, LBJ folded under the pressure, Nixon bowed to the pressure; but George Bush, right or wrong, stood tall and for that he gets my salute!

  • http://www.willisms.com/ Zsa Zsa

Sanity, Rugby Reader sounds more like a Code Pinker or a Cindy Sheehan Kook! No one is forcing anyone to Serve. It isn’t as if we have a Draft! He is obviously a Coward who thinks sitting behind a computer bashing the War in Iraq, claiming to be a Marine is going to further his anti American agenda. AND using a thread that is a Tribute to a young Marine who gave his life securing Freedom and Democracy in a foreign country is even more Pathetic!

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Petraeus Last Best Hope

IN THE HEART OF THE MIDDLE EAST, THE UNITED STATES PLANTED IT’S FLAG…NO POWER ON EARTH CAN REMOVE IT…FRIENDS CAN RALLY AROUND IT…ENEMY PLANS FROM NOW ON MUST ACCOUNT FOR IT…and as it was and remains in Japan, Korea, Germany, what follows is PEACE, which is very much in our nation’s vital interest and something well worth the price paid. Cowards of course think nothing is worth the effort as they are self centered folk who have no concept of the “common good” and no understanding of the history of the 20th century. Was defeating Nazism worth it?

This peace being built in the Mid East is not something our enemies want. Peace is won and kept by the strong…..and can be lost by those who project weakness to an enemy that feeds on appeasers, weak minded talkers and the naive.

Iraq will be the rock on which Mid East freedom will be built. This won’t be instant coffee, great deeds never are.. but it is an inevitable victory if people of good will chose to prevail over the haters of life (pick a side). It will be the greatest blessing millions of people living in that very rough neighborhood ever received and all the civilized world will reap the benefits. This is why Iraq is linked to our collective future. Give thanks to our amazingly skilled and brave soldiers and to the steadfast vision of the 43rd President of the United States of America.

Smedley Darlington Butler (July 30, 1881 — June 21, 1940), was an authentic military hero; but, he was a Quaker, a member of that pacifist religious sect and thus his political/religious views have nothing to do with his record of heroism (Twice awarded the Medal of Honor).

It is like that pig Murtha, no matter what he did as a Marine Officer in Vietnam, which I fully honor, his later extreme Left Wing views and his recent bizarre behavior have nothing whatsoever to do with his valor in battle.

Still, the matter of Butler, Murtha and Bush have nothing at all to do with your dispicable dishonoring of Chance, an authentic American Military hero! So either stick to the subject or admit your advanced ADD!

A former American overseer of Iraqi prisons says several dozen inmates who were members of Saddam Hussein’s military and intelligence forces boasted of helping transport weapons of mass destruction to Syria and Lebanon in the three months prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Don Bordenkircher — who served two years as national director of prison and jail operations in Iraq– told WND that about 40 prisoners he spoke with “boasted of being involved in the transport of WMD warheads to Syria.

A smaller number of prisoners, he said, claimed “they knew the locations of the missile hulls buried in Iraq.”

Some of the inmates, Bordenkircher said, “wanted to trade their information for a release from prison and were amenable to showing the locations.”

The prisoners were members of the Iraqi military or civilians assigned to the Iraqi military, often stationed at munitions facilities, according to Bordenkircher. He said he was told the WMDs were shipped by truck into Syria, and some ended up in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley.

Other Iraqi military personnel, including former top Saddam associates, have made the same claim.

In early 2006, Saddam’s No. 2 Air Force officer, Georges Sada, told the New York Sun Iraq’s WMDs were moved into Syria six weeks before the war started.

WND also reported in 2006 a former general and friend of Saddam who defected alleged WMDs were hidden in Syria and said the regime supported al-Qaida with intelligence, finances and munitions. Ali Ibrahim Al-Tikriti, the southern regional commander for Saddam’s militia in the late 1980s, said the regime had contingency plans established as far back as the 1980s in the event either Baghdad or Damascus was taken over.

Saddam knew the U.S. eventually would come for the weapons, Al-Tikriti said at the time, and had “wanted since he took power to embarrass the West, and this was the perfect opportunity to do so.” So he denied they existed and made sure they were moved into hiding, the former general said.

Among other claims, WND also reported a former U.S. federal agent and counter-terrorism specialist deployed to Iraq before the war said he waged a three-year, unsuccessful battle to get officials to search four sites where he believed the former Saddam regime buried weapons of mass destruction.

Bordenkircher said four of the Iraqi prisoners who separately offered to speak to the “right” people about Saddam’s alleged transport of WMD later became involved with U.S. and Iraqi intelligence agencies.

Some prisoners said the drivers, upon return from transporting the WMDs out of Iraq, discussed the movement. They said, according to Bordenkircher, the materials shipped out would return once Iraq got “a clean bill of health from the U.N., and then the program could be kick-started easily.”

Four of the prisoners — civilians attached to the Iraqi military — said they worked at the al-Muthana Chemical Industries site. They said the cargo included nitrogen mustard gas warheads for Tariq I and II missiles.

Bordenkircher said the stories of the military personnel and the civilians matched and did not contradict one another.

Bordenkircher also said prisoners confirmed al-Qaida had a presence in Iraq before Operation Iraqi Freedom began, specifically in Mosul and Kirkuk.

Iraqis under the command of Uday Hussein, one of Saddam Hussein’s sons, supported the al-Qaida elements in the country with training and providing safe harbor, they said.

Bordenkircher also was a senior adviser to South Vietnam’s correctional system during the war in Southeast Asia, from 1967-72. His task was to improve conditions for 80,000 civilian prisoners. The U.S. Department of Justice asked him to play a similar role in Iraq, sending him first to Baghdad’s infamous Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad in March 2006 to shut it down.

Bordenkircher previously served as Marshall County sheriff of Moundsville, W.Va., and police chief and warden of the state penitentiary at Moundsville.

Chance Phelps never should have been killed in Iraq. Too bad for him, and too bad for his family, that he died for Bush’s lies.

    Semper Fi, dude…

You are a First Class Sonofabitch! It is damnable that you would use the honorable words Semper fi, in your mouth they are garbage!

My family have all served, my brother, nephew, grandson, late son and I all served in the Corps! We served America and the cause of liberty. Our soldiers (Army), Air Force, Navy and Marines set millions of Iraqi citizens free from the hands of a cruel, murderous, rapist dictator, a man that is now rotting in hell! You are a miserable bastard to say anything negative about this man’s life, the fine officer that took him home to serve at his final posting and the many great Americans that shed honest, heartfelt tears as he came home!

  • Lioncourt

so he pretends to be a Marine…and a man.

What do you pretend to be LBH?

Have you ever worn the uniform?

The only thing our military in Iraq has done is enrich the corrupt war-profiteers

The 9/11 truther Rugrat Reader hallucinates again! Free elections mean sh*t to Ruh-Roh Reader, who has “free elections” for brains!

We closed Saddam’s rape rooms and torture chambers, stopped his attempts at genocide and even restored much of the wetlands he destroyed. Ruh-Roh Reader is a moron of the first order.

Again, y’all have no clue about Iraq. Thank you for stating it for me. There is nothing heroic about an occupation.

RR” You incredible moron! If a soldier risks his life to save the lives of other soldiers or civilians, especially if he loses his life – that makes him a hero – period!

  • thejackle

Once a marine, always a marine. If you aren’t a marine anymore bb you were never a marine.

It is interesting how many of you are so quick to disparage a veteran of the Iraq occupation that you so heartily endorse. I am addressing an issue while many of you are attacking me personally. Rather than attack me, how about defend your position?

It is rather curious and interesting that no one can submit truthful and justifiable reasons for our invasion and occupation of Iraq. It seems that all anyone can do is attack those who disagree with the previous regime’s policies, and the current one’s policies for that matter. It looks like Obama has no intentions of ending either of Bush’s illegal occupations.

  • Neiman

RR: You could have avoided it all, by just honoring him as a hero, a Marine; and the Officer that took him home and then left it at that, to decry Bush another day. It was pathetic and you should apologize for using this fine Marine’s story as an opportunity to attack Bush. He had nothing to do with Bush, he was just a fighting jarhead, a leatherneck, a devil dog that died with honor and he deserved your most sincere salute and nothing more!

I would have said nothing at all under this post, except I had to, to express my deep anger at what you did to this fine man and my brother Marine!

    Good stuff.

I will be very surprised if it doesn’t play like just another anti-war flick.

It didn’t come off as an anti war flick at all. It was a tribute and very moving.

The invasion and occupation of Iraq has nothing to do with Freedom and Democracy.

151 Congressmen Derive Financial Profit From War

Blood money stains the hands of more than 25% of members of the U.S. House and Senate

    rss202

    By Ralph Forbes

Who profits from the Iraq war? More than a quarter of senators and congressmen have invested at least $196 million of their own money in companies doing business with the Department of Defense (DoD) that profit from the death and destruction in Iraq.

According to the latest reports, 151 members of Congress invested close to a quarter-billion in companies that received defense contracts of at least $5 million in 2006. These companies got more than $275.6 billion from the government in 2006, or $755 million per day, according to FedSpending.org, a website of the watchdog group OMBWatch.

Congressmen gave themselves a loophole so they only have to report their assets in broad ranges. Thus, they can be off as much as 160 percent. (Try giving the IRS an estimate like that.) In 2004, the first full year after the present Iraq war began, Republican and Democratic lawmakers–both hawks and doves–invested between $74.9 million and $161.3 million in companies under contract with the DoD. In 2006 Democrats had at least $3.7 million invested in the defense sector alone, compared to the Republicans’ “only” $577,500. As the war raged on, so did the billions of profits–and personal investments by Congress members in war contractors, which increased 5 percent from 2004 to 2006.

Investments in these contractors yielded Congress members between $15.8 million and $62 million in personal income from 2004 through 2006, through dividends, capital gains, royalties and interest. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), who are two of Congress’s wealthiest members, were among the lawmakers who garnered the most income from war contractors between 2004 and 2006: Sensenbrenner got at least $3.2 million and Kerry reaped at least $2.6 million.

Members of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services committees which oversee the Iraq war had between $32 million and $44 million invested in companies with DoD contracts.

War hawk Sen. Joe Lieberman (IConn.), chairman of the defense-related
Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, had at least $51,000 invested in these companies in 2006.

Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), who voted for Bush’s war, had stock in defense companies, such as Honeywell, Boeing and Raytheon, but sold the stock in May 2007.

Of the 151 members whose investments are tied to the “defense” (war)
industry, as far as we know, not one of them offered to donate their bloodstained profits to the national treasury to offset the terrible debt they have imposed. Has one of them even offered to donate one cent of their war profits to lessen the debt that increases more than $1 million a minute?

When our boys and girls are wounded the government bills them to return their reenlistment bonus. They have to return any pay they received while they were hospitalized. They have to pay for their helmets and uniforms that are destroyed in the hell of war. But they keep on fighting for these politicians’ right to keep their war profits.

     Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) $3,001,006 to $5,015,001
     Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) $250,001 to $500,000
Rep. Kenny Ewell Marchant (R-Tex.) $162,074 to $162,074
     Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.) $115,002 to $300,000
     Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N.J.) $115,002 to $300,000
     Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) $100,870 to $100,870
Rep. James Sensenbrenner Jr. (R-Wis.) $65,646 to $65,646
     Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) $50,008 to $227,000
     Rep. Sam Farr (D-Calif.) $50,001 to $100,000
Rep. Stephen Ira Cohen (D-Tenn.) $45,003 to $150,000

You have no right to keep using the Semper Fi statement when you show your self to be unfaithful to both the corp and a fellow Marine. The deceased chose for himself of his own free will to join the service knowing full well that military action anywhere the government says to go is involved and that the job of soldiers is to go places, kill people, probably get killed doing it. Has been since before recorded history.

You’re a complete idiot to enter thread and disparage the man’s memory by intimating that he was somehow not as competent as you, that he wasn’t intelligent enough to see the risks, and was somehow a victim of Bush. He was an adult human being and he chose for himself the path that led to his end.

Just as you are doing to lead yourself to yours. Do you think someone will come by when you are in the ground, to patronize you posthumously, to absolve you of responsibility for your choices as if they could? As if it would matter?

You idiot leftists… You just don’t get it. You will be held accountable for your choices and no matter how arrogant you get, no matter how delusional, you will not escape your part in causality. Your attempts to disconnect people from the power of self-determination will fail. Your attempts to escape the responsibility of your actions will fail. You will fail. Just as you have failed here to do anything more than anger people who’d give this man respect for dying in the course of his duty and make yourself look like a callous jerk.
