As a former coach and devout fan of baseball… not mention a lifelong Yankees fan… I gotta say that’s just about the most amusing baseball video since Jose Canseco let a fly ball bounce off his head and out over the fence for a home run.

The only restriction on the batter is that he may not step into the other box after the pitcher is in position ready to pitch. Rule 6.06(b)

To me it’s pretty obvious that the batter is in the wrong here.  Venditte is on the mound and ready to pitch and the batter is switching boxes.

That’s pretty clearly in violation of the rule.  But I think the announces are right: Venditte is going to lead to the rule being clarified a bit.

What I hope they don’t do is put a restriction on Venditte switching arms.  That’s just too fun to watch.
