Surprise: Unions Get A Special Two Year Exemption From Health Coverage Tax In Obamacare Bill
Dan Rheil says, “From the UAW in the auto bailout, to federal contracts, too many other items to list and now health care reform, Obama is probably the single largest contributor to corrupt union funding than anyone else in history.” That’s undoubtedly right, and the health care bill is yet another example of how, if you’re a union member, you’re a different class of American citizen under Obama.
One with certain exemptions and privileges.
The labor unions have been fighting the Senate health care bill for some time now–specifically, the provision that levies high taxes on “Cadillac” plans that exceed certain maximums. That was expected to be a sticking point in the negotiations between the Senate and the House, but as Samuel Johnson once said, “the prospect of being hanged focuses the mind wonderfully.” With the potential loss of their 60 vote majority lurking ahead, they can’t dawdle on the details; it’s time to haul in their lente and festina like hell.
And so it looks like they may have reached a deal sooner than otherwise expected: unions get a special two-year exclusion from the tax.
Seems to me that if we have a health care bill we should all pay for it. Certain people should be exempted, and certain other people shouldn’t be targeted.
Of course, if Democrats had to try and pass a bill that everyone had to pay for (or at least the illusion of that not being true) they wouldn’t be able to pass anything at all.
