Supreme Court Rules That Racial Discrimination (AKA “Affirmative Action") In Schools Is Wrong

Even when that discrimination has “diversity” or other good intentions as it’s basis.

The problem is that far too many people in the government tend to see the various racial demographics in this country as characteristically homogeneous groups of people rather than individuals who just happen to share the same skin color and sometimes cultural backgrounds.  Racial minorities are game pieces to be moved about an education game board in search of the ideal formula for “diversity” that will yield the best students.  They’re people, each different from the next.

So bearing that in mind, the real solution to this constant battle over race in our schools is to give each individual student a choice. That means school vouchers.  By putting the choice of which school to attend in the hands of the individual students themselves no school district can be accused of giving preferential treatment to one race over another.  At least as far as enrollment goes, anyway.

But this is far too much freedom for the liberals in school administration and the teachers unions, who feel that it is their job to tell us where we will be educated and how.

It’s good to see those guys getting something right after such a long spell.

Now, if we can just carry this over to the work place and hire based on qualifications it’ll be great.

But what about valuing diversity for the sake of diversity? *sarcasm* You know, because diversity brings value, or something…

I’m all about not discriminating based on race.  I see no place for racism in this world.  But when people start talking about the “value” of diversity, it’s the same as saying that they value me less than someone else based only on the fact that I’m not “diverse” enough.

The only benefit of this new type of discrimination is that, unlike when “diversity” was purely race based and out of one’s control, you can now make yourself more diverse by adopting Islam, becoming homosexual, or gaining 500lbs.  Consider that the next time you are looking for a job.

The problem with trying to create diversity is that it a) discriminates against at least some people who don’t deserve it and b) it usually lowers the overall quality of the company/education institution, etc. being diversified.

Think if we tried to create diversity in the NBA.  Not only would good black players who are better than the whites or Asians or whoever that replaces them be discriminated against, it would also lower the overall quality of the teams and the league.

If a white player deserves to play in the NBA, so be it.  Let the best players play.  But mandating that the NBA’s racial makeup reflect the population’s racial makeup?

Who’d want to watch that basketball league?

I haven’t read through the entire opinion carefully yet, but THIS, from CJ Roberts, is why judicial appointments are just barely less important in choosing a President than national defense and a strong policy of economic growth:

The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.

Hey Rob ...you mean like a team that some players are actually shorter than the basket? What a ingenious concept for the terms game and challenge.  wink

The skinheads call for “purity” while the liberals call for “diversity”. It matters not the reason because the method and the end result is the same: racism.

Skinheads and liberals - two peas in the same pod.
