Super Bowl XLII Open Thread

So, who’s gonna win?  Patriots?  Giants?  Will Brady’s ankle owie play a factor in the game, or was it all just a Belichick mind game?

image

And perhaps more importantly, who will have the best commercial?

Update: What a game!

Personally, I’m expecting a Patriots blow out and a gut ache from my mother’s delicious Super Bowl sub sandwiches.

Pats by 21.  Giants lose the opening kickoff, Pats score in 4 plays.  Giants go three and out, Pats score again.  Eli is pressured, throws a pick, and it is over before the second qtr starts.  Just my prediction.

Giants better hope they can run the ball because Eli is still Eli.

Justin B. on February 3, 2008 at 03:11 pm

I hope the Patriots have a perfect season, then lose the Super Bowl.

I will laugh until beer comes out my nose.

Ken McCracken on February 3, 2008 at 03:43 pm

I dunno if it is going to be a blow out but I think the Pats are going to come out firing.

I thought I would never say this but,

Great ad with the oboe player walk on story.  Great

Brady looks like he is whipped.  He’s gonna need to get his attitude back.  Talent isn’t enough.

4th quarter just started.

Defense is the winner of the game so far.

Eli looks like he has it cut.  TD NY

Great game!  Best in a while.

Tom Petty’s half time show was great.  Simple, but good.

Best commercial: The Ameritrade baby puking on himself.  Worst commercial: Bizarre “Underarmor takes over the world” spot.

I agree that the Career Builder ad with the heart was gross.  It was just...bizarre.  When the heart came jumping out of her chest I thought it was another wardrobe malfunction at first.

Then I thought...Alien.

And the halftime show was great.  Don’t dog Tom Petty.  His music is timeless.

The Giants defense deserves a pat on the back, by the way.  They made some big plays at the end (if that second-to-last pass hadn’t been poked away from Moss the game might have ended differently), and managed to rough up Brady throughout the game.

And yet, even with just over thirty seconds left Brady and the Pats were just a fingertip away from taking the comeback away.

Brady threw into double coverage, and the defense knocked the ball away.  Desperation.
Besides, Bellechik was a weasel for that “twelve men on the field” ticky tacky call.  He got what he deserved.

Lestat, even with the loss tonight I think Belichick and his team proved that they can win without cheating.

Robert, those last two passes to Moss might have been desperate...but they nearly work none-the-less.

Brady and the Pats are a great team.  Nobody can take that away from them.

Hey, I was rooting for the Giants, but it was one close game.

If we were talking about a series of 10 games, I’d put my money on the Patriots to win most of them.

By the way, did you see Belichick hustle off the field before the game was even over?  There was some confusion over that last second on the clock, sure, but he should have stuck around.

Not very classy.

Agreed.  I could understand that red flag if that extra player had somehow affected the outcome of the play.  But, purposely quick-snapping the ball as the guy has his last foot on the field on the way off?  I can’t stand that, and I don’t care what team does that.  If you can’t get a first down on your own, you deserve to punt.  Cheap shots.

Congrats to the Giants! I rooted the whole game for them and never gave up hope! smile

BEST COMMERCIAL : Doritos where the mouse came screaming out of the wall and tackled the guy!  Close second and third where Underdog and Stewie balloons duked it out for the Coke...and the classic Justin Timberlake getting his crotched smashed into a mailbox is always good for a laugh. smile

WORST COMMERCIAL:  Creepy heart jumping out of the woman’s chest!

I agree.  Who’d want to win a game on something like that?

Of course, looked at in another way, it’s hard not to admire Belichick for using every facet of the game to his advantage.

Not noble, just irrelevant.
