Super Bowl XLII Open Thread

So, who’s gonna win? Patriots? Giants? Will Brady’s ankle owie play a factor in the game, or was it all just a Belichick mind game?

image

And perhaps more importantly, who will have the best commercial?
Update: What a game!

Personally, I'm expecting a Patriots blow out and a gut ache from my mother's delicious Super Bowl sub sandwiches.

Pats by 21. Giants lose the opening kickoff, Pats score in 4 plays. Giants go three and out, Pats score again. Eli is pressured, throws a pick, and it is over before the second qtr starts. Just my prediction.

Giants better hope they can run the ball because Eli is still Eli.

I hope the Patriots have a perfect season, then lose the Super Bowl.

I will laugh until beer comes out my nose.

  • Mr. Mxyzptlk

I dunno if it is going to be a blow out but I think the Pats are going to come out firing.

  • gonzo

Audi has a great great ad prepared

    Giants will win

  • http://northerngleaner.blogspot.com/ Gene

    Audi ad was awful

PepsiMax what is love was good.

  • http://northerngleaner.blogspot.com/ Gene

    Underarmor

    What was that ad for??

  • http://northerngleaner.blogspot.com/ Gene

Giants really seem to want this thing, doing good.

all the superbowl ads will be on on myspace.com superbowl ads HMMM. Have to check that out later

Just before the end of the first quarter. Pats looking good.

RED ZONE Defense falls down. End of first q.

    Bridgestone … good ad.

Mercedes ad, I had a 300 in Germany. Co Car. Very impressive. Those ads were filmed in Germany and Switzerland.

2 seconds into second quarter TD and extra point.

    BIG MO has begun.

Hey I'm happy. I won $5.00 on the coin toss. I won't bet on the game because I don't want either team to win. ;-)

  • http://northerngleaner.blogspot.com/ Gene

Fed Ex pidgeon ad. Great ad
    talking Stain, really good sell
    Budweiser rocky, excellent

    Good stop after the interception.

This is a real football game

The lizard water ad. Dumb. Although she is pretty

    The Kia ad pretty good

  • Bill Mitchell

I thought I would never say this but,

The Patriots offensive gameplan in the first half sucked. I mean seriously.

  • Bill Mitchell

The CareerBuilder Heart-out-of-chest-via-alien Commercial may have been the most barf inducing of all time.

    HALF-TIME:
Worst half-time show…ever? One song after another from a group that hasn't been popular in 20 years? Huh?

    Wow, just massive suckage.

  • http://northerngleaner.blogspot.com/ Gene

    I'm a Tom Petty fan.

Free Fallin is a great song.

But that's what makes a horse race.

Speaking of Race.. Why all the Promo for Daytona.

I don't Nascar. Cars go round and round. Big Whoop.

Agree with you bill on Career Builder. Nauseating.

  • Politically Incorrec

I thought the half-time show was pretty good. No wardrobe malfunctions to have to shield the kids from.

  • http://northerngleaner.blogspot.com/ Gene

Great ad with the oboe player walk on story. Great

Brady looks like he is whipped. He's gonna need to get his attitude back. Talent isn't enough.

    4th quarter just started.

Defense is the winner of the game so far.

Eli looks like he has it cut. TD NY

    WOW

  • Bill Mitchell

Pats just look like they don't care.

  • Bill Mitchell

Dear God, Brady just sucks tonight. He is missing receivers right and left.

  • Bill Mitchell

The Pats how NO RUNNING GAME. Wow.

  • http://northerngleaner.blogspot.com/ Gene

The boys with the 12 point spread bet are hurting right now. 2 minutes 40 left after the Pats TD.

Giants need to get it done now.

    This ought to be interesting.

  • http://Array Gray_Fox

    17-14. 'nuff said.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Great game! Best in a while.

Tom Petty's half time show was great. Simple, but good.

Best commercial: The Ameritrade baby puking on himself. Worst commercial: Bizarre "Underarmor takes over the world" spot.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/ likwidshoe

That was one hell of a football game.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

I agree that the Career Builder ad with the heart was gross. It was just…bizarre. When the heart came jumping out of her chest I thought it was another wardrobe malfunction at first.

    Then I thought…Alien.

And the halftime show was great. Don't dog Tom Petty. His music is timeless.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

The Giants defense deserves a pat on the back, by the way. They made some big plays at the end (if that second-to-last pass hadn't been poked away from Moss the game might have ended differently), and managed to rough up Brady throughout the game.

  • pparets

Rob: "The Giants deserve a pat on the back."
Please, please tell us that this wasn't an attempt at a very bad pun.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Please, please tell us that this wasn't an attempt at a very bad pun.

It wasn't, because I'm not that punny.

    *rimshot*

  • robert108

The Giants' last scoring drive was legendary.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

And yet, even with just over thirty seconds left Brady and the Pats were just a fingertip away from taking the comeback away.

  • Lestat

    Maybe cheaters never do prosper.

  • robert108

And yet, even with just over thirty seconds left Brady and the Pats were just a fingertip away from taking the comeback away.

Brady threw into double coverage, and the defense knocked the ball away. Desperation.
Besides, Bellechik was a weasel for that "twelve men on the field" ticky tacky call. He got what he deserved.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Lestat, even with the loss tonight I think Belichick and his team proved that they can win without cheating.

Robert, those last two passes to Moss might have been desperate…but they nearly work none-the-less.

Brady and the Pats are a great team. Nobody can take that away from them.

  • robert108

Brady and the Pats are a great team. Nobody can take that away from them.

The Giants, a twelve-point underdog, took it away from them very well tonight.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Hey, I was rooting for the Giants, but it was one close game.

If we were talking about a series of 10 games, I'd put my money on the Patriots to win most of them.

By the way, did you see Belichick hustle off the field before the game was even over? There was some confusion over that last second on the clock, sure, but he should have stuck around.

    Not very classy.

  • Paul

Besides, Bellechik was a weasel for that "twelve men on the field" ticky tacky call. He got what he deserved.

Agreed. I could understand that red flag if that extra player had somehow affected the outcome of the play. But, purposely quick-snapping the ball as the guy has his last foot on the field on the way off? I can't stand that, and I don't care what team does that. If you can't get a first down on your own, you deserve to punt. Cheap shots.

Congrats to the Giants! I rooted the whole game for them and never gave up hope! :)

BEST COMMERCIAL : Doritos where the mouse came screaming out of the wall and tackled the guy! Close second and third where Underdog and Stewie balloons duked it out for the Coke…and the classic Justin Timberlake getting his crotched smashed into a mailbox is always good for a laugh. :)

WORST COMMERCIAL: Creepy heart jumping out of the woman's chest!

  • Lestat

Lestat, even with the loss tonight I think Belichick and his team proved that they can win without cheating.

Does that make their cheating noble?

I agree. Who'd want to win a game on something like that?

Of course, looked at in another way, it's hard not to admire Belichick for using every facet of the game to his advantage.

    Lestat,

Does that make their cheating noble?

    Not noble, just irrelevant.

  • robert108

On another blog, someone said that the Giants' win reminded them that McCain isn't our candidate yet, and that Hillary isn't inevitable; anything is possible.
    I like it.

  • robert108

I agree. Who'd want to win a game on something like that?

    Belechik, apparently.

  • 2Hotel9

    WOW! Simply wow.
