Subsidies For The Rich, But No Tax Cuts?

Interesting quote from Rep. Ron Kind (R - WI):

“What I find ironic with members of my own party is that they are quick to criticize President Bush’s tax cuts to the most wealthy,” Kind said. “But they’re loath to look at these commodity payments to millionaires under this farm bill.”

That’s pretty much in keeping with liberal doctrine, though.  They’d rather confiscate huge chunks of wealth from the people so that it can redistributed back to them than just let the people keep more of their own money.

...President Bush’s tax cuts to the most wealthy…

A lie by omission; the tax rate cuts were for everyone, with those who paid the most getting the biggest reduction, which is as it should be, unless you believe the function of govt is to promote class warfare, that is.

Not trying to be an ass here, but I just want to point out that Rep Ron Kind’s party affiliation is incorrect above.  Seeing as how my sister works for him, I can confirm that he is, indeed, a Democrat.

That being said, Rep Kind is quite reasonable about most things, and farm subsidies are one of the areas for reform where in theory Republicans should be willing to work with him.  In practice, however, that turns out to be more difficult than it should be.

Taking somewhat less of someone’s earnings is not a “subsidy”, btw, unless you believe that the govt is somehow entitled to a fixed percentage of what you earn.
