Stopped The Presses: Palin Got Another $30,000 In Clothing

Politico brings you an update on the most important story of the election cycle (judging by the amount of media attention paid to it):

The Republican National Committee will report Thursday that it spent about another $30,000 on clothes and accessories for Sarah Palin during her vice presidential bid, a GOP source tells Politico.

Palin took a major public relations hit when Politico revealed that the RNC in September shelled out $150,000 for clothes and accessories from high-end retailers for the Alaska governor, who built her political persona around a folksy, regular-gal demeanor.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama just spent more on an election campaign for President than any other politician in the history of this country.

Discussion question: Has anyone asked how much the Obama campaign spent on The One’s clothing?  Or on his wife’s clothing?  Or how much the custom, embroidered seats on his private campaign airplane cost?

Seems that if Palin’s wardrobe costs are important details, so are those.

Aren’t double standards lovely?

Fox just rteportedc that 3 dems used campaign funds for clothing, as well.
It’s strange that this issue holds such a fascination among certain groups

Obama’s suits come from HartMarx a Chicago clothier. They retail for about $1500. That means he could buy 100 suits for the #150,000 spent on that woman.

When you advertise yourself as a down home hockey mom and then spend $180K on clothes and over $4000 on hair and makeup (her makeup artist was the highest paid consultant to the McCain campaign, maybe that’s why they lost!) it’s noteworthy.

A) The GOP spent the money on her wardrobe, not Sarah.

B) Sarah’s wardrobe totals included jewelery, shoes, etc.  You just included Obama’s suits.  How much for shoes?  Shirts?  Watches?  I’ll bet you’ll find his wardrobe expenditures were comparable to hers, especially if you compensate for the fact that women’s clothes are inherently more expensive than mens.

C) If you think a makeup artist was the most highly-paid adviser to McCain at $4,000 you’re stupider than I thought you were.

Way to bust out with the sexism, my dear progressive lad. Obama buys his own suits, while people spend money on that woman.

Funny how much hypocrisy a close attention to language reveals.

And you know what?  I’m fine with that.  It’s his campaign.  How he spends that money is between him and his contributors (and the FEC).

So why all the hubub about Sarah’s clothes?

But the FEC isn’t intrested in investigating his finances

Facts, corruption, Constitutional eligibility to be President, illegal foreign contributions, you thought the news was about facts? Hah—It’s all about pushing Obammunism, don’t you know?

Get used to the endless Obummerism everyday. Today’s no troops out of Iraq. I wonder why the Obama voters bought that lie? Didn’t they know it was alie or were they just too dumb to see it. Either way ...

Obamunists just can’t hanlde freedom and liberty—You note, they never speak the words. I wonder why, after being the champion of the library card freedom and terrorist’s rights to not be wiretapped. Odd, in a weird sort of way.

Reagan said it best—“It isn’t that Liberals are ignorant. It’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.” - Ronald Reagan.

Liberals must think everybody is as dumb as them.

As much as I disagree with Dino, there is a hint of sense to what he is saying here.  A down home hockey mom persona is not consistent with the wardrobe expenses regardless of who spent the money.  I’m sure Sarah learned a lot this election cycle and will be more careful in the future.

The double standard is obvious and the media bias blatant. A successful republican candidate will have to overcome this disadvantage not wine about it or demand equality.

McCain’s fund raising is being looked into because he took public financing and that triggers an automatic audit.

Obama’s isn’t because he didn’t take public funding, and since Democrats run the FEC they’re not about to launch an audit that would embarrass The One.

this is just as important as edwards’ $400 haircuts that conservatives went on and on and on and on about.

same with clinton’s $200 haircut at lax in 1993.

if you guys have to lose it about haircuts, let progressives lose it about $180,000 worth of clothes.  (that would be over 40,000 haircuts for edwards)

I’m not sure why she is the one being held accountable for the clothes that were bought for her by staffers. Not one single store could say she had been in there shopping. I read a few weeks back where one of the McCain people said they were told to go get the stuff right as she was added to the ticket. Then they said most of the stuff never left the belly of the plane, unopened. So, seems silly. I also think they did her no favors, as they did try to change her image. Whether they did it as a simple not thinking thing, or maybe the sabotage started early? I saw a thing where the HuffPo people were hyperventilating that she was wearing a jacket paid for by the campaign while in Ga this week. Being as she was campaigning for the RNC, that would have been o.k., but it turned out someone came up with a pic of her in the same coat from last winter. I wondered how they “knew” just what the RNC had bought and what they hadn’t. That’s just a little too much PDS. For the record, I never complained about how much Hil, Bill, Obama, Edwards spend on their selves to campaign. Laughed about Edwards and the hair cut cause he’s such a fairy ass with his little comb and mirror, but how could you not? That guy is so sleezy he makes other ambulance chasers look legit.

All of this is stupid.  The press is the one that went after Palin because the RNC spent the money on the clothes.  She had nothing to do with that and no one, honestly, should say otherwise.  As for Edwards and his $400 haircuts?  That too, was the press.  The common denominator?  They were pro Obama.  That may not sit well with some of our less informed posters, but it is true.

But Edwards’ $400 haircuts were funny.  Nobody was suggesting he did anything wrong.  They were laughing at him for being such a femmy guy.

That’s the difference.

Great point Rob, the whole haircut thing was goofy fun and didn’t matter to any of us…but the press went after Edwards at the time.  I honestly can’t remember if it was pro-Hillary or pro-Obama at that stage of the race, but it was one of the two.  Once the Obama was the chosen one, Palin had no chance.  The spotlight was all on her and she really was a small town girl from Alaska, so it was easy for them to trounce her.  Obama is more manipulative than Palin, and ‘better’ educated, but in a commonsense situation?  Palin.  She is WAY more one of us as typical Americans.

Funny, $30,000 is the amount Barri just spent on a lovely ring for Michelle. A bit of defensive “fact” manufacturing to say the least.

Gov. Sarah Palin’s traveling makeup artist was paid $68,400 and her hair stylist received more than $42,000 for roughly two months of work, according to a new campaign finance report filed with the Federal Election Commission.

President-elect Barack Obama brought in nearly $750 million for his presidential campaign, a record amount that exceeds what all of the candidates combined collected in private donations in the previous race for the White House, according to a report filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission.

Well, look who got taken, the Styrofoam temples cost $5 million, and all Sarah spent for bigger crowds was a few $100k. Who is better with money—LOL!!!

Obammunism will be fun, watching the Kenyan Obama bring Kenya to America, when the Obama voters thought he was talking about them getting free pies.

I propose the band play the BeeGees hit song, “Jive Talking”, a little mood music to set it up, right before Obama speaks.

Note that Dino only mentions the suit.  Let’s go through the rest needed to be presentable in that suit:

Shirt; if you’re going to wear a $1500 suit, plan on $300 apiece for tailored shirts.

Shoes; same deal, at least $500/pair for the kind of shoes that will look right.

Tie: at least $100 apiece.

Overcoat; $500-1000.

So the cost of just one outfit of Obama’s is not $1500, but rather $3000-3500.  So it’s not 100 outfits, but rather half that or less.  Given that Obama is a big city lawyer, yes, he’s got at least a significant portion of this in his closet.

Now let’s put on makeup at $100/session, three times per day, for about a year and a half of campaigning.  At least his haircuts are pretty simple—I could probably do them with my Wahl clippers.

Want to keep pointing fingers now?  I thought not.

Let’s not forget that pols like Obama, Clinton, McCain, Biden and John Edwards had years to build up extensive wardrobes. Palin came out of nowhere and had to have a wardrobe overnight. She probably had a few decent suits, but the McCain campaign decided she needed a makeover. According to everything I read, she didn’t shop for anything herself.
