Spike Lee To Play Michael Moore In Katrina Documentary

Spike Lee's HBO special on Katrina ought to be a real hoot.

So fair, so balanced, so incisive, so rational.

No wait, that's not what this is. It's a hack job taken directly from the play-book of that other filmmaker Michael Moore.

So, be prepared for the left wing liberal myth-makers finest hours.

If you haven't got something good to say, make up something bad.

Here's the full text.

Where he says:

Lee's appearance on CNN, to promote his new co-authored memoir/biography, Spike Lee: That's My Story and I'm Sticking To It, followed a report on the rumors circulating among evacuees that the government somehow engineered the flooding of the largely black and poor Ninth Ward section of New Orleans.

"It's not too far-fetched ... I don't put anything past the United States government," Lee said. "I don't find it too far-fetched that they tried to displace all the black people out of New Orleans."

I'm sure it will come with a large print disclaimer saying: "The Following is Left Wing Nut Propaganda"

Or not.

Moore is to play the part of that barge that took out 150 feet of levy?

I’m sorry, did you have any evidence that this documentary would be either liberally biased or factually inaccurate?

From the post:

“It’s not too far-fetched … I don’t put anything past the United States government,” Lee said. “I don’t find it too far-fetched that they tried to displace all the black people out of New Orleans.”

That’s evidence enough to suggest that it probably will have a liberal bias to it.  For me, anyway.

Spike Lee accuses the government of trying to displace black people in New Orleans with a freaking hurricane (or blowing up levees or whatever) and I get the criticism?

Er...Gene gets the criticism?

I don’t think its too much of a leap of faith to believe that someone capable of making a statement like that probably isn’t too capable of doing a fair and balanced documentary about the event.

Commenting purely for the sake of being irritating isn’t very constructive, Dave.

Can you provide a link which supports that assertion?

I read earlier that Spike Lee said that he “didn’t find it too far-fetched” that the federal government would do so, but I have NEVER seen one in which he “accuses the government of trying to displace black people in New Orleans”. So, I await your evidence.

Btw, I wouldn’t put it past the government to assassinate John F. Kennedy. But does that mean I think it happened? Hell no! I’m just pointing out that, due to my libertarian-influenced distrust of government, I wouldn’t put it past them to do ANYTHING. It sounds like Mr. Lee shares my skepticism.

Christ you’re a twit.

Fine.  Split hairs.  I’ll not waste my time on it.

Rob, you wrote something that was objectively untrue and served only to defame Spike Lee. I called you on it. You responded by calling me a “twit”.

This isn’t “splitting hairs” at all. Spike Lee NEVER SAID that the Federal Government blew up the levees in New Orleans. You said that he DID say that. Your charge is a serious one, and it’s also a false one. If you had any respect for the truth, you would applaud me.

I responded by giving you my reasoning for saying what I said.  Frankly, I think its good reasoning.

Spike said this:

“I don’t find it too far-fetched that they tried to displace all the black people out of New Orleans.”

I said this:

Spike Lee accuses the government of trying to displace black people in New Orleans with a freaking hurricane (or blowing up levees or whatever) and I get the criticism?

I made it pretty clear that I have no knowledge of Spike’s beliefs as to the how or why the government tried to “displace black people in New Orleans.” You, of course, ignored that.  For that you get you applause.

Also, your analogy to the Kennedy assassination is lame.  You might get a lot people to say that its possible that Kennedy was killed by the CIA, but how many people would say that its not “far-fetched?”

Words mean things, Dave.  They have implications.  You can try and explain it away all you want, but Spike revealed himself as a nutty conspiracy theorist and you know it.  Even if you won’t admit it.

He exposed himself as a man who’s so open-minded his brains might fall out. He did not accuse the government of killing black people in New Orleans.

Displace.

To be fair, Spike did not downright accuse the government of this.  But he might as well have.  He expressed support for the notion, and that’s enough in my book.  And certainly enough to insinuate that his documentary about Katrina might not have a basis in reality.  Which is what the point of this discussion was.

Don’t call racist hate liberal bias. Call it racist hate. They’re two different things.

I saw him on Bill Maher, and he made this connection to justify his comments.
