Soul-Suckers In Branson

Yesterday Jess and I roled into Branson around noon. We decided to stay the night here and take in a few of the attractions. We stopped at one of those information booths to get our bearings and a map of the area.

Big mistake.

We ended up being "body snatched" by the time-share people (or "vacation share," as they put it) for what was promised to be a "no pressure, 90 minute presentation" at the end of which we were to receive two tickets for one of the show. Not knowing what else to do, we signed up.

Again, big mistake.

It wasn't 90 minutes it was three hours of the most drawn-out, boring, soul-draining sales pitch I've ever had the misfortune of sitting through. At the end there was no pressure and we did get our tickets, but I wish we hadn't done it. I should have known better. I've dealt with these sorts of people before, but the lure of free tickets to an expensive show (and they were really good tickets) just proved too much.

Just a word to the wise for those of you who go on vacation in the future: Avoid these people, or agree to their pitch at your own risk. The folks we dealt with in Branson were affiliated with Festiva Cruise Lines/Festiva Travel and were selling for a development called Stormy Point just outside of the town.

We go to Branson about once a year courtesy of these things.  The key is, my wife and I play good guy bad guy on them.  One of us sucks up all of their time acting all interested, while the other sits cross-armed silently.  At exactly 90 minutes, the "bad guy" stands up and says "ok I’m done with this, give me my tickets".  We usually get out within 5 minutes.  The funny thing is, the same places call us back to try it again about evry 6-12 months.  It IS stressful, but considering the price of tickets, plus the free room, it can be worth it.  It always makes me sad watching all the other suckers buy the sales pitch though.
