“Sober Guy” Business Moving From Fargo To Grand Forks

I think this Fargo business that is now expanding to Grand Forks, which offers a ride home from the bar in your own vehicle for a fee, probably does more (or at least has that potential) to keep our roads safe than all of the increasingly draconian punishments for drinking and driving our government leaders keep thinking up.
I think we need to remember that the point of laws against drunk driving are intended for public safety, not exercising moral judgment over those who live lifestyles we disagree with. At this point, I think we’ve proven that simply throwing people in jail for DUI isn’t enough. We need to take other approaches as well, and I think that should include public support for initiatives represented by the business above.

Many out there refer to alcoholism as a disease

Just because you are an alcoholic doesn’t mean that you can’t call a cab or a friend to drive you home. Responsibility and blame fall on the drunk driver. Period.

    increasingly draconian punishments

Lives can be ruined by these laws, but the lives of those killed by drunk drivers cannot be brought back or their families pain eased. Sorry, no sympathy here, drive drunk and you deserve what you get.

I truly feel the pain for these people after they sober up to what they have done to their lives and I feel deep, sincere compassion for the harm caused to their families; but it is their CHOICE, they love alcohol more than they love their own lives, their families or feel any responsibility for their victims.

If we, as a nation, had not since 1962 moved to break down the family – which is the cornerstone of any healthy society, to laugh people out of Church and to take away the shame of self destructive behavior, maybe we would not face the numbers of alcoholics, drug addicts and sexual perverts we see today; but that ship has sailed and there is no getting it back into home port. So, all we can do for alcoholics and reacreational drunks is lock them up and force them off the streets.

I get your point Rob, take it a step farther with this. Many out there refer to alcoholism as a disease, do we get to toss aids patients in jail too?

Rob, I’m presuming you mean public support as in groups of individuals? Not government support, right?
