So How Much Does A Governor Cost These Days?

I’m wondering how much money the wind power lobbyists had to direct to John Hoeven to convince him to hire a salesman with taxpayer money to sell their product for them.

North Dakota has retained Deyton Bell, a U.K.-based professional services firm offering international business development services, to attract manufacturers of wind turbine generators and turbine component parts to complement the state’s existing wind equipment makers.
“North Dakota offers wind energy businesses a great base on which to build a U.S. operation, and our renewable energy team is ready and willing to do all we can to help businesses establish themselves here,” says Gov. John Hoeven, R-N.D.

I think North Dakota offers bloggers a great base from which to build an operation. I wonder how much I have to contribute to John Hoeven to get him to hire a marketing firm to promote my political writing? Anyone know what the going rate is?
Because I know that all entrepreneur in this state will get the same sort of treatment from their elected officials, right?

An innuendo is a baseless invention of thoughts or ideas

Most of the “articles” you post are from right wing web sites that are baseless, then you opine.

    Innuendo at best.

You should check with the head of the teachers' union to get the exact cost they paid back in 2000.

I don't think politicians care much about bloggers innuendo.

I don't think you know what innuendo means.

if this was such a great idea why didnt the private sector do this?

Actually, most of the articles I quote are news articles from wire services like AP, Reuters, etc.

Though I confess to linking to the occasional right-wing blog or National Review article.

Rob–your off base on this one. The story is more complex than you reported. This isn't about using taxpayer money to sell a product for the wind industry. It's about using tax payer money to pitch North Dakota as a location for wind machine manufacturers who are looking to relocate operations to the US. Whether the latter is appropriate is fair game, but let's get the use of taxpayer dollars right.

    Thank you "Knight".

I love how that self-righteous idiot Buzz throws manure out like this, never even once checking his facts.

    Typical grammar-challenged, fact-challenged liberal.

So, what you're saying is that we're spending our tax dollars to attract businesses here to compete with companies that are already here?

    And that's ok?

Clearly, the wind industry paid for this. It's subsidy, matter how you cut it, and I am being perfectly accurate about it.

This is done all the time here…. in fargo, our park board runs brick and mortar fitness centers (and were building another one…. its totally insane). obviously those fitness centers compete against other private fitness centers.

our county also authorized bonding authority to the YMCA to build a gym…. how cna a private business be allowed to do that?

I still disagree with the hair-splitting above about Hoeven how Hoeven isn't really spending tax dollars on hiring a salesman.

I mean, what other industry in the state gets their own subsidized salesman?

  • Knight

Rob–you say you are "being perfectly accurate about it," but that's not even true in your reply!!

The article you linked states that the purpose of the state's arrangement is "to attract manufacturers of wind turbine generators and turbine component parts to complement the state's existing wind equipment makers."

You reply to me: "So, what you're saying is that we're spending our tax dollars to attract businesses here to compete with companies that are already here?"

Name me ONE wind turbine generator manufacturer or one component part manufacturer of the turbine (you know, that thing between the blades and towers which ARE manufactured in this state) that is ALREADY in this state. I don't think you'll you'll find any. You asserted a factless claim.

You also state "clearly the wind industry paid for this." OK–where and when? Where are your FACTS.

You CAN debate the policy of North Dakota hiring a consultant to pitch North Dakota as a location for wind machine manufacturers. As I stated, "that's fair game."

But don't make false assertions, debate the boogyman and call it a day. You then undermine your own credibility and do a disservice to faithful readers who otherwise count on your integrity.
