Slippery Soap Smugglers of the Pacific Northwest

In Spokane County in Washington state, a new, soon to be statewide mandate against dish soaps with phosphates has taken effect, causing residents to take things into their own hands. The measure was designed to reduce water pollution. The downside is, the phosphate free detergents don’t do as good a job of getting the dishes clean.
Nicholas K. Geranios has the story:

Many people were shocked to find that products like Seventh Generation, Ecover and Trader Joe’s left their dishes encrusted with food, smeared with grease and too gross to use without rewashing them by hand. The culprit was hard water, which is mineral-rich and resistant to soap.

However, in nearby Idaho, no such ban on sales currently exists. Hence the new Phosphate Corridor on Highway 90.

Real estate agent Patti Marcotte of Spokane stocks up on detergent at a Costco in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and doesn’t care who knows it.
“Yes, I am a smuggler,” she said. “I’m taking my chances because dirty dishes I cannot live with.”
(In truth, the ban applies to the sale of phosphate detergent — not its use or possession — so Marcotte is not in any legal trouble.)
Marcotte said she tried every green brand in her dishwasher and found none would remove grease and pieces of food. Everybody she knows buys dishwasher detergent in Idaho, she said.

Sitting in the dark, eating off dirty dishes, waiting to get in to see our doctors…what else do our wonderful government planners have in store for us?

Tell those lazy bitches to do the dishes be hand.

You know what the first thing is a woman does when she gets home from the abuse shelter does?….The dishes if she knows what is good for her.

Buzz, I truly hope you meant that to be sarcastic…

On a sidenote, I always thought the *If x is illegal only criminals will have x" argument was stupid as hell.

Yes, if something is illegal the people who have it will be breaking the law, so if x is illegal only criminals will have it because by having it you become a criminal…

(Just something thats alwasy bugged me…carry on…)

Sometimes I wonder if your a parody of actual blue collar union workers…your seriously working against anyone even slightly liberal…I just hope everyone recognizes that you're the minority of any party, liberal or conservative.

Oh, and if you could, jump off a bridge for me, wouldya?

  • http://SayAnythingBlog.com The_Whistler_ofnd

No that's how liberals really think.

It's just that they do vary on what group they hate.

Misogynistic racist POS. Add in his general ignorance for a trifecta of stupid!

But, Buzz: Keep coming 'round here! We don't expect to convert you, but you do wonders for making conservatives look like the reasonable folk they are!

I hate it that I never thought to buy my second wife a dish washer , there is no need to stand there and break your back washing dishes and the old codgers who are against dish washers are the very ones who need to wash the dishes not the lady of the house . so we have soap that will not clean and lights that could present a health hazard and now we face the extinction of the health care that is second to none in the world . seems like every green idea sucks and has no value at all .

  • Hannitized

Oh no, what ever will we do? Imagine that….all those years on this earth, and no phosphate enriched detergent? Crazy!

    Americans are becoming lazy.

The only a minority of homes in Hawaii have dishwashers. I rarely use mine. I only use it when I have a large party and no time to wash by hand….I could care less if they made more environment friendly soap.

Haha, wait until the Odummer voters find out what cigs will cost them. Then the whole new world will open, cigarette smuggling.

But hey, at least your library card is safe. Tell me you weren't dumb enough to fall for that one.

So how would a liberal know Hitler, simple, they will vote for him. Ignorants are easily fool, that's why the government educates them that way.

Positive and negative reinforcement not only works well in animals and children, but in women also. When your woman does as she is told she gets a reward, when she fails, there is none. Over time there is no question of "why", just a desire to "do".

This is not unlike the "finishing school" that young women attended to learn how to act proper, I have just implemented my own form of finishing school.

I remember when my kids were young, we had some friends over. The kids were all watching t.v. and when it was time to go to bed, I snapped my fingers and told them it was time for bed. As they got up and filed into their bedrooms, my friends wife was amazed that there was no whining or back talk, like she gets from her kids. She asked how I did it, how they were so obedient. I told her that there is no option, no debate when they are told what to do. That they will do what they are told, when told to do so, every time, without exception.

If you start this at age two or so, it does not take long for only the snap of your fingers to "correct" any unwanted behavior. This type of discipline may sound hard, but it shows them that you care for them, that you want the best for them. Today they see there former classmates out of control, with no job, doing as they please with no boundaries. And they realize that they have the balance and structure they have today because of the discipline they received as children, and are thankful for it.

And the ones who are pleased to call themselves "progressives" regard free market, free will conservatives as neanderthals???

Buzz, you are the poster boy for dim-witted labor union thuggery.

  • Buzz

Really Bat, did you "reason" with your three year old? Did you ask him why he felt he needed to jump on your relatives couch, to run through the house screaming and throwing stuff. They tell you that it is alright, that they are just kids, all the while glaring at your little demons, dreading the day you return. When all the while, the correct amount of pressure just above the knee-cap, the thump of a finger nail to the back of the head, would of discouraged that type of behavior at its first signs. It is people like you that have let our next generation think it is alright to do what ever they want, to be a bunch of slackers. Still today as adults, if my kids sees me spinning a towel in my hands they know its time to stop fucking around.

  • Bat One

Really Bat, did you "reason" with your three year old?

Actually, yes, I did. And more importantly, I taught them to reason for themselves too. I taught them that the respect that they wanted would only be returned to them based on the respect they showed others. I taught them that bullies are inevitably discovered to cowards deep down inside, and to never allow themselves to be bullied by anyone.

I've taken a similarly reasoned approach to women, and looking back over my life thus far, I've enjoyed more than my fair share of success in that arena as well.

Imagine that….all those years on this earth, and no phosphate enriched detergent?

Imagine all those years on earth without…cars! Or computers! So if the government mandated that no one should own a car, or a computer with a processor faster than, say, a 286, because they're somehow better for the environment, that would be okay with you, because we survived all those years without any cars or computers at all, right?

Wankertized: You should open your own boutique: Fallacies-R-Us. Freedom is a terrible thing to waste. (I'd say "your mind", but that presents facts not in evidence! )

I would have thought the libs, at least, would have recognized the slippery slope of smuggling soap!

  • Hannitized

Imagine all those years on earth without…cars! Or computers!

The government isn't saying you can't use soap. They are just saying phosphate enriched soaps are too rough on the filtration systems ability to deplete phosphates in the system, and are attempting to cut it down, just like the auto industry is cutting back on how much fuel cars burn.

So if the government mandated that no one should own a car, or a computer with a processor faster than, say, a 286, because they're somehow better for the environment, that would be okay with you, because we survived all those years without any cars or computers at all, right?

What did I tell you about your false analogies?

Nobody is saying you can't have dishwashing soap! They are just saying that you should not use it is enriched with phosphates.

They computer industry has many restrictions on chip processing. And computers are using less and less metal to produce form factors. Soon, the thin client model with be all but gone and you will have a thin client in your place of work (if you are a large, enterprise).

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

The government isn't saying you can't use soap.

No. They're just saying you can't use any that work!

The government isn't saying you can't use transportation! An ox cart will suffice! And they're not saying you can't use computing devices…how good are you with an abacus, Wankertized?? They use a lot less electricity than the one you're using now. If you have a pressing need for national security, maybe I can get you a slide rule?
