Sivits Sentenced

Jeremy Spivits has been found guilty and sentenced to one year in federal prison for his part in the Abu Ghraib situation.

From Fox News:

The judge, Col. James Pohl, sentenced the 24-year-old from Hyndman, Pa., to confinement for one year, reduced his rank to private and gave him a bad-conduct discharge from the Army.

"I'd like to apologize to the Iraqi people and those detainees," said Sivits, who often fought back tears during the proceedings. "I should have protected those detainees, not taken the photos."

For those of you keeping score at home, that makes 1 U.S. soldier brought to justice by his own government for prisoner abuses with more convictions to come. The score for Saddam's prosecution of war criminals still stands at 0.

Never forget that we are the good guys, even when we make mistakes.
