Site Announcements: Why I’m Not At The Democrat Convention, Avatars Fixed

It occurred to me that I had announced a week or so ago that I’d be attending the national Democrat convention down in Denver, and that over the last couple of days I’ve been writing posts about the convention.  I should note (to clear up a few emails I’ve gotten) that I’m not actually there because I had to cancel my trip.

My grandmother, a woman I love dearly who raised me and may well be chiefly responsible for instilling the cantankerous independent streak in me that makes me a conservative, is 91 and currently on the losing end of a bout with cancer.  She originally contracted breast cancer in 2003.  It went into remission for several years, but in March of this year came back with a vengeance finally forcing her to stop living on her own and move into a managed care facility.

Now the cancer is everywhere, she’s pretty much not responsive, and the doctors tell us it’s a matter of days and maybe even hours now.

So, obviously, the Democrat convention and politics in general are both pretty low on my list of priorities right now.  I’ve been blogging now and then because the hospital has wi-fi and because all there really is to do is wait (I haven’t even slept more than about 5 hours since Friday), but just to make it clear I’m not at the convention.  And over the next week or so blogging is probably going to be pretty hit-and-miss for me.

On a totally unrelated note, for those of you who have been having problems uploading pictures and images to your profiles please note that the problem is now fixed and all should be working fine.

I am sorry to read about your grandmother.
You are obviously doing the right thing.

Excuse me, you were saying?

I thought perhaps you just could not bring yourself to crawl into that particular cesspool.

Our prayers for your family, and I hope her passing is peaceful.

Give Grandma our best.

Believe me, she’s listening.

Your grandmother must be very proud of you, Rob. What she was will live on in what you are.

While of course you’re doing the right thing and I salute your grandmother and anyone who makes it over 90, I’d rather face cancer than the Dem convention.

Seriously though, something tells me she is one of the last of a breed that this world needs badly right now and I hope the best for you and her.

Prayers for you both can never hurt. (Not that I have a lot of pull up there, mind you) smile

Sorry to hear about your grandma. Nothing is as important as family - not even close.
