In a just world, the first people to become unemployed in tough economic times would be govt workers, since they produce nothing. Since Obama/Mugabe is claiming only the govt can repair the economy, doesn't that assume that only the govt can wreck it?

The transformation of DC into a center of wealth took a giant leap forward under bush. There's even a book written about it.

Bush outsourced a lot of the functions of govt to "contractors", mainly those friendly to republicans. What used to be done by a $25 per hour govt worker is now done by a $150 per hour "consultant". This was when republicans stopped seeing govt as the enemy and started seeing it as a piggybank to reward their friends.

Saw the article in Business Week over the weekend. I'd call it creeping socialism. Or, to paraphrase, "those who can , do and those who can't [strike]teach[/strike] work for the government… or in academia… or for unions… or in Hollywood… or are sitting in their parents' basement sucking up trust fund money… or sip lattes in Manhattan's Upper West Side.

One huge example of the insatiable maw of the government – especially when run by the Dems – is the lobbyists. Found some evidence of how lucrative lobbying can be and this involves only PMA, the group Murtha is neck-deep with in potential fraud but it is probably representative of the entire parasitic 'business'.

Whipped up an Excel pivot table, and stuck a copy on Google docs, based on numbers showing what PMA and its clients received in earmarks and what they spent in campaign contributions from 2001 – 2008.

I calculated the ROI amounts.

So, for PMA spending $1.8 mil on campaign contributions from 01-08 they received a mind-blowing $377 mil in earmarks. The ROI of 75k+% would make any private sector CEO blush. As is typical of capitalists, though, notice that the GOP nearly doubled the ROI to PMA and its clients. Even when Repubs are failing their base they still get more bang for the buck for their customers than the Dems do. Wonder if The Messiah is gonna demand a salary cap for lobbyists.

It's interesting to note that the total received is nonpartisan:

To me, this appears to show that, overwhelmingly, our elected representatives are more concerned with playing the game in D.C., playing power politics, and feeding their already bloated self-esteem than performing their duties as representatives of the people. D.C. has run amok. And the fact that GOPers are equally culpable during the Bush years is largely why the elections of 06 and 08 were so disastrous for the party.

This nation started out as a group of exceptional individuals who, united, created an exceptional nation where government was a small, necessary intrusion on one's independence and freedom. Wonder if we'll ever get back there.

Rejecting sources with data and analysis to back it up is a common trait of the conservative since their assertions cannot be backed by data.

The increase of wealth in DC did not occur overnight or since Jan 20th. It had all those "Abramoff-Bush years" to grow fat off the Treasury.

Stupid is thinking that the Obama admin had anything to do with it.
