Shocker: Swine Flu Not Nearly As Dangerous As Regular Flu

Which means that you can ignore the dire warnings and cartoonish antics of the Obama administration and move on with your lives.

As the World Health Organization raised its infectious disease alert level Wednesday and health officials confirmed the first death linked to swine flu inside U.S. borders, scientists studying the virus are coming to the consensus that this hybrid strain of influenza — at least in its current form — isn’t shaping up to be as fatal as the strains that caused some previous pandemics.
In fact, the current outbreak of the H1N1 virus, which emerged in San Diego and southern Mexico late last month, may not even do as much damage as the run-of-the-mill flu outbreaks that occur each winter without much fanfare.
“Let’s not lose track of the fact that the normal seasonal influenza is a huge public health problem that kills tens of thousands of people in the U.S. alone and hundreds of thousands around the world,” said Dr. Christopher Olsen, a molecular virologist who studies swine flu at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in Madison.

Discussion question: Who gets the bill for all the business lost thanks to the media/politicians hyping this for the sake of ratings?

I’d note that the public in general aren’t helping much by screaming for the government to “do something” everything something like this happens.

And I’d note that the government has conditioned the public to think that way for generations now – both through the schools and the media.

Uh yeah, Hannitized. Go with it.

300,000 cases of influenza in this country alone per year and over 60,000 related deaths.

And I should go running in circles, screaming and shouting because of 300 new cases of flu during one of the least infectious periods of the year.

Whistler, I think you’re right… Algore, the high priest of the Church of the Latter Day Global Warming Alarmists did say something about that.

You know, one of the things I find the strangest, and maybe a little creepy, about the world I live in is that people like Al Gore, Joe Biden and John Kerry can make up flagrantly obvious nonsense, and people on the left not only let them get away with it, they buy their books and go listen to them speak.

Most influenza cases occur in cold weather. This is this year’s data:

Anybody who believes that crap about more diseases occurring in warm weather is an idiot.

I don’t think so,because WHO would not give an alert level 5 if it is not an outbreak already & many cases are already been reported.

Maybe Paranoid Joe Biden can come out of hiding now.

    I hope not.

“Epidemic” is very poorly defined IMO. The Swine Flu is now classified as a Level 5 epidemic (Level 6 being the highest). How is that possible?

The real “epidemic” is the world’s governments going ape **** over every possible opportunity to seize power by amplifying the perception of a crisis. For instance, last time the Swine Flu was an “epidemic” in the United States, our government managed to convince people to take a vaccination that killed 30 times more people than the flu did. So what is the epidemic again?

I heard Cheney’s undisclosed location was a South Dakota pheasant hunting spot.

    Not that it matters now.

More to the point, the public’s response, which the government not only encourages, but indoctrinates, is the complete opposite of what it should be. Why in the world should the government be put in charge of fixing a crisis? Nevermind that virtually every crisis was caused (at least in part) by the government. Even if there were a genuine crisis that came about through no action on the part of the government, why would putting the government in charge of fixing the problem make things better? What “magic” can the government possibly perform that much more knowledgeable and flexible private individuals and private organizations of individuals can not do?

the government is pretending its not so bad to kill off more bums. why waste an opportunity like this? remember the tent cities out in California? oh yea.

it’ll also keep the retards inside for a bit so they stop spending money they don’t have like little heroin addicted dopers.

Couldn’t agree more, but I’d note that the public in general aren’t helping much by screaming for the government to “do something” everything something like this happens.

Like how Bush was nailed for not declaring martial law or something right after Katrina happened.
