Shocker: Fox News Has Most Balanced Election Coverage

It turns out that Fox News was the least biased in its election coverage this year according to a study which also concludes that Fox is only seen as leaning to the right because, as I’ve put it myself several times, the center is to the right of the left.

Two studies out in the past couple of days show that it’s not just conservatives who see a strong tilt by journalists in favor of the Democrats: A nonpartisan media monitoring group and a liberal-leaning research organization both confirm the pro-Obama, anti-McCain bias of ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC.
In reports this week, the Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) and the Pew-funded Project for Excellence in Journalism (PEJ) found the most balanced campaign coverage was on the Fox News Channel, although PEJ claimed FNC’s balance was actually a right-leaning bias, since it deviated from the “norm” of other big media

Not very surprising. I mean, we all know it’s happening.
The only thing still shocking at this point is how many times this rampant, unapologetic bias is uncovered without the media being even so much as embarrassed or ashamed about it.

Magic Dog: The fairness doctrine is a communist controlled media. You want government control of the media. Let
economics control it. You either have the ratings or you don’t. Now that is fair.

  • Magic Dog

Great! Then the Fox News channel has nothing to fear from the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine!

  • CB

LOVE FOX NEWS! They’re always so fair. It’s all I watch anymore

  • Eddie_the_Hated

My guess is that they don’t count Hannity, O’Reilly, VanSustren, Steve Ducey, or a myriad of other commentary shows. This makes up 80% of their network. And the CMPA was founded by a Fox News contributor, not totally unbiased.

Of course not. If CNN was judged on Olbermann alone, the entire network staff would be lined up and shot for high crimes against the United states.

Methinks it was strictly news coverage by anchors, not “specialty” shows [ones I tend to avoid on both sides of the aisle for that reason exactly].

What is interesting that CBS and the New York Times are apparently willing to sacrifice their financial stability to meet their agenda.

This is a very big conundrum. Usually when someone is swayed to follow a particular view or action, you look for the bribe or the payoff i.e. follow the money. Extreme idealogical beliefs could also be the reason although it’s difficult to imagine how so many people could so devote in the same political direction.

Unbiased doesn’t necessarily mean saying the exact same number of positive and negative things about both sides. McCain and Palin made a hilarious number of blunders during the campaign compared to Obama/Biden. Thus, the PEJ study suggest that Fox was relatively negligent to the negatives of the McCain campaign? Moreover, there’s clearly a difference between opining that Obama is a socialist or Muslim and thus likely to support terrorists than to state the fact that Palin was repeatedly unable to answer what the Vice President does.

Are you a rancher? You sure are shoveling a lot of Horse Shit. The media failed to cover the NOBAMA and Biden Gaffs, Biden is a Gaff factory and the fact they gave him a free pass is insulting much like your post on top. The media was dishonest and Fox was one of the few channels that covered the news more objective.

    That’s a matter of opinion.

    Ooops… I fogot this part.
Robert Lichter is the president of The Center for Media & Public Affairs.

I’m seriously concerned that those who claim that the debate raging on here is the fundamental problem with the media – its not that they report a bias and convert their audience, its that they develop an audience which they then cater too. This is most true after the debates – while Fox may have been balanced its audience was not – a fox opinion poll immediately following each debate had an 80% victory confirmation for McCain. I would conclude that this audience may have similar views, but nationwide the real results had each debate slightly leaning towards Obama. This sample is indicative of a variety of fox ‘facts’ – they get their audience to comment and run samples for their survey’s. So while reports are accurate, much of their time is spent review and continually reviewing reports, and I think it would be fair to say that the variety of pundits on that show are not accurate nor are the comments that pundits post – insinuating that the whole of America things the same way as a bias viewer.

If you listen to Bill Burton (who is a demogague) and BHO (Marxist) you would think that Fox News was evil and the reason BHO isn’ running away with the election.

I think they are way objective and just because they aren’t spewing the left win mantra that GOP is evil and a bunch of dolts and they sometimes cover McCain in a possitive light that is seen as right wing.

although PEJ claimed FNC’s balance was actually a right-leaning bias, since it deviated from the “norm” of other big media

In other words”anything center of left is right wing hate mongering”

    Magic Dog,

No, they don’t have anythin to fear from the FD. You, however, do. If they decide to control the internet, you won’t be able to come on SAB and spew your pithy remarks.

Déjà vu from 2004 and 2006.

Fox News is always the most balanced out of the big media. That is why the leftists hate it.

  • Jeff Becker

    According to an articleon Wikipedia, Robert Lichter is a paid consultant to the Fox News Channel; and a former fellow of the American Enterprise Institute;
    I report…. you decide!

Magic Dog – Great! Then the Fox News channel has nothing to fear from the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine!

That is a major leap of logic.

  • sc

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that the news media is far left leaning. That’s why Fox is kicking everybody’s butt when it comes to ratings. What is interesting that CBS and the New York Times are apparently willing to sacrifice their financial stability to meet their agenda.

Facts, logic, and reason don’t matter to the left. What matters to them is how many people they can brainwash into believing that their stand feels better. Someone used to have in their sig here a quote from some nutcase over at DU that said something along the line of “truth doesn’t matter; it’s how many people you can get to feel that something is right”. (Whoever has that quote, can you repost it?) That about sums it up. Propaganda.

So, absolutes aren’t important; everything has to be relative. After all, you can’t have class warfare and rule by mob without relativity.

So, that FNC is fair or balanced absolutely is meaningless in the world of the left because it is, as Rob stated, to the right of the left relatively. Most of the MSM has been Obama’s de facto propganda machine for this campaign. And to be in lockstep to that extent requires criminalization of all things to the right (relatively), even if that means trashing things in the middle (absolutely).

    What is?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Typical liberals. If there’s information you don’t like, don’t talk about the facts…ATTACK THE SOURCE!

Obama, in all his kick-out-the-journalists-who-endorsed-the-other-guy glory, would be proud.
