Shocker: Ben Nelson Flip-Flops On Using Reconciliation To Pass Health Care

He joins Senator Kent Conrad among other Democrats who – despite previously opposing using the budget procedure (which by the way was intended to make deficit reduction easier) to pass a massive, unpopular health care bill – are going to go ahead and get on board with it anyway.

After saying yesterday that Democrats should abandon sweeping health reform in favor of a more incremental approach, Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson said Wednesday that he could support reconciliation as long as he supports the underlying bill. Nelson also said he hopes Obama will lay out his preference for moving reform forward in his State of the Union address tonight.

Back in March of last year, Ben Nelson was calling the reconciliation procedure a “deal breaker.”

The Senate’s draft of the budget omits the reconciliation language. Senator Ben Nelson, a Nebraska Democrat, said he would vote against his party’s budget if it included the reconciliation procedure.
“That’s a deal-breaker,” Nelson said. “I don’t think it’s appropriate to determine the health-care delivery system, the changes that will be there, through the reconciliation process.”

I wonder what they bribed him with this time.

The deal changed, Rob. But not because of Scott Brown, I don’t think. I think it is the vast amount of frustration from a bailout weary nation that snuck up on these guys, in spite of their many attempts to deny it. The choices are definitely different for these politicians now. The ones that are up in 2010 can’t successfully run for re-election, so it really makes these promises easier to break. And if you think about it another way, a lot of these democrats believe this bill will be popular after it is passed… so at this point, they might believe that since everyone is already mad at them, why not get the bill passed any which way possible and hope for the best by 2012 or 2014?

He’s gone kamikaze. Let me explain. Nebraskans are not just angry at him, they are white hot with fury. Remember they booed him from a pizza restaurant? Well, those ones were the polite ones.
He knows he’s politically dead meat. Hence he’s just doing this out of spite. What a tool.

I have started to think that Sen Conrad doesn’t intend to run for re-election…..

Ben has already taken his lumps for whoring himself for his vote – he probably figures what more harm could he do.

And please, do reconciliation. Once the dems break the seal on it it becomes a game-changer.

“He is the effect (in part) no the cause.”

Yeah, my point was pretty simple. Obvious, too, in my opinion, but if you listen to the media, you’d think this is all about Scott Brown… I’m just saying that even if he lost by 15 points, the writing was already on the wall… the marginal district democrats were already getting pretty jumpy.

RECONCILIATION? do it…do it…I triple dog dare ya, DO IT demrats and feel the power of the American people’s recoil to this totalitarian style tactic…. a blowback from free people that will rock the Dem Marxist world to it’s rotten core.

They don’t think you know what reconciliation is. I doubt his base does.

Right about now a trick to pass this 25 point underwater crap sandwich is not what the American people want. It may be what the teleprompter ego-maniac wants.

But it simplifies signage … FLUSH ALL DEMOCRATS

Well I agree with that. Scott Brown was evidence of the deal changing. Not the deal changer.

He is the effect (in part) no the cause.

Sooner or later, under the right conditions, the reptilian side of Liberal Democrats slithers into view.
