Arlen Specter was a “Kennedy Democrat”, who became a nominal RINO (never far away from his roots), who became a Democrat again.
Extra points for the trolls who think they can find any words of praise for Arlen Specter’s “conservatism” or principles on these pages! Feel free to Google back to the beginning of time! (Or the Internet, whichever comes first!)

Amazing how quickly you people will go to any length to discredit and destroy those who you feel betrayed you.
Specter was never popular amongst conservatives. And he’s been a favorite target of talk show hosts and the like for years. He was a Kennedy Democrat that switched to Republican to ride Reagan’s coattails (political expediency), who’s now doing the same in reverse now that it appears he cannot win a Republican primary.
Opportunism at it’s finest. Why am I not surprised you’re defending it?

Bill Maher was right.
way to go dino2 … I didn’t realize it before, but there are people that i find i disagree with more than you ….. Maher and Micheal Moore …….
don’t feel bad, keep trying, someday you might be as dumb as those two are.
would be a good topic some time, in order, list the top five people ….. smart, stupid, patriot, honest, liar, etc.
What is it with you people that think you’re the only ones who work hard? Give it a fucking rest. A lot of people who work hard STILL support their country and society. They just don’t whine about it all the fucking time. Yes, WE KNOW, paying bills and taxes for the things you use is a bitch. But it’s part of life. Grow the fuck up.
He was a conservative who wised up to the fact that the Democratic party left him.
Bullshit. He was a supporter of the New Deal. He made a 180. Doesn’t matter when it happens, he did the same thing as Specter. Even more so if you consider that going from being a Union leader New Dealer to a fascist is more drastic than going from moderatel republican to moderate democrat.

Please try to get it right. Many of us, myself included were Kennedy dems back then. We did not leave the dems, they left us when LBJ and Ladybird took over. It was called “the great society” ….. that is the point that the dems stoped allowing conservatives in their party. I do not believe in abortion, same sex marriage, or wasting money. I am not welcome under your none existant big tent.
By the way, you never supported specter before why do you now? Nothing has changed but his party and he only did that because he was not going to get the rep nomin. AND HE IS TOO DAMN OLD, JUST LIKE YOU SAID ABOUT MC CAIN
And for the record, He is not and never has been a moderate. He has always been and voted as a liberal. Moderate is the word liberals use when they do not want to admit what they truly are. Be proud of your beliefs.

Don’t blame us for your woes. You’re the ones who worship the people at the top so that they pay less and get more. Then you have to pay more. You don’t want the corporations taxed. So you’ll pay more.
Now go on. Tell me how the top 5% pay 150% of the taxes, blah blah blah….yada yada yada. Maybe when the top 1% have 99% of the money you’ll be happy. Fucking idiots.
The people at the top create ALL of the jobs. The question is simple: “do I want my boss to make less money?” The answer is no. I want my boss to make a lot of money, because it increases the days I work, and how much money I make. Conversely, if my boss makes less money, I make less money. It’s simple, and a LOT of people are learning this simple truth. When times are good, it’s easy to piss on the rich…cause there’s no apparent downside. When times are bad and companies have to cut back, people find out just how important the “greedy rich” are.
What’s bizarre is the hatred for the rich, who make the jobs that provide us incomes, create the goods that improve our lives, and buy more than the rest of us FURTHER expanding the marketplace. It’s like the fable of the Goose and the Golden Egg.
Amazing how quickly you people will go to any length to discredit and destroy those who you feel betrayed you.
Don’t forget Reagan was a democrat, too at one time. And a union leader.
…bleats the foolish Dino!
Do we “discredit” Specter because he used to be a Democrat? You have an appropriately low view of Democrats! Heh.
Yes, Reagan was a Democrat. He was a conservative who wised up to the fact that the Democratic party left him. But, he stayed true to his conservative principles. Specter was never troubled with principles, conservative or otherwise! (Maybe that’s why you like him so much?)
Here’s a news flash for you dim Demstem: I was a Democrat in my youth. I am living proof of Sir Winston’s aphorism:
If a man is not a liberal when he is eighteen, he has no heart. If he is not a conservative by the time he is thirty, he has no brain!
SigFan
Arlen Specter was never a conservative, he has alternately been a Democrat, then a Republican, and now back to Democrat. Throughout all these gyrations though he has never been nor ever will be a conservative. At best, he is a political opportunist, at worst a political whore.
That said, I would like to point to the following, excerpted from an article regarding a study conducted by Arthur Brooks, a professor at Syracuse University from March of 2008. This is in response to the many “greedy” hard-hearted conservative comments in this and many other threads.
– Although liberal families’ incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).
– Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.
– Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.
– Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average.
– In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent.
– People who reject the idea that “government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality” give an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition.
Brooks demonstrates a correlation between charitable behavior and “the values that lie beneath” liberal and conservative labels. Two influences on charitable behavior are religion and attitudes about the proper role of government.
While conservatives tend to regard giving as a personal rather than governmental responsibility, some liberals consider private charity a retrograde phenomenon — a poor palliative for an inadequate welfare state, and a distraction from achieving adequacy by force, by increasing taxes. Ralph Nader, running for president in 2000, said: “A society that has more justice is a society that needs less charity.” Brooks, however, warns: “If support for a policy that does not exist … substitutes for private charity, the needy are left worse off than before. It is one of the bitterest ironies of liberal politics today that political opinions are apparently taking the place of help for others.”
I suggest that you read the entir article, which can be found here:
Conservatives should read it because it can help give us the arguments needed to counter the brain-dead repetitive crap from the left. Liberals should read it to help them flush out their brain-dead repetitive crap.

Contributing to the common good that you take from freely?
do you work dino, or are you just a taker. you try to make it sound like everyone gets something for nothing. All my life I have worked generally around a min. of 60 hours or more. five day vacations once a year, and the work waits for me till when i get back. I pay taxes you have never dreamed of for the priviledge of running a business. The land tax, gas tax, sales tax, and income taxes total more than my take home. I also have been on the fire dept for 36 years and the ambulance for over 30 as an emt. I give more to charity each year than millionare DEMOCRAT VP Joe Bidden.
BTW, all of the land i have i bought. I do have my own well for water, thank you. I dug it myself, on my own land, and piped it 2000 ft to my house, at my own expense.
and yes, i did teach my kids, all three graduated college with honors and two are going on, one for a masters and one to be a doctor. I tried to teach them to work and take care of themselves, not to sit on their ass and expect a handout by taking from someone else.
Really, deluded troll?? He became a Democrat again??? When did this happen? And can you corroborate this with anyone outside of the little voices in your head?
I think you need to put down the crack pipe and visit reality for a change!

Specter will not be missed. It has always been about him and NOT the people who elected him. I’m glad he’s gone, and now I can vote for someone who holds more of my ideals. Arlen is a political hack and should be recalled!!!

Umm, newsflash…he’s no liberal. Arlen won’t budge on EFCA. He was a complete douche during the JFK situation and he made a fool out of himself digging into Anita Hill on behalf of the worthless pile Clarence Thomas. He obviously doesn’t fit into the far right. But as a career Republican (four decades), he’s no liberal. He’s what conservatives don’t like in the GOP, somewhere in the middle.
Flaming liberal MCGOVERN is against the EFCA. Why? Because it violates the secret ballot, which he says is a fundamental right. He’s hardly a conservative. You don’t get much further left.
And Anita Hill was obviously lying. She was contradicted by EVERYONE who worked with them, and her story didn’t fit the simple facts that she laid forward, and that were on public record. Thomas has been a decent justice, hardly a “worthless pile”.
His being a Republican doesn’t mean he wasn’t a liberal. And you’re too stupid to make a decent point.
The way I see it those who betray liberty for collectivism and self-aggrandizement are illegitimate. Regardless of how liberals have pimped out America for their own personal gain, conservatives still love this country and want to restore to her liberty and the glory that followed.
What the fuck does that mean? Anything?
What are you so opposed to? Cooperating with other humans? Contributing to the common good that you take from freely? Is it all just one big tatntrum because you have to pay for living in a civil society?
What’s all this drama about liberty and glory? Why do you freaks spout that shit? Do you really believe it? What does it mean to you, Liberty? The freedom to take resources and services and not pay for them? The freedom to withdraw from your society only until you need something yourself? The freedom to pollute, destroy, exploit with impunity? That’s what your kind always does. Talk about pimping.
What is a country to you people? A land mass? One big posession? If not for people coming together and creating things why have a country? So we can operate totally independently, you have your fire department and I have mine? “Don’t ask me to pay for water, I got my own well.”
Do you teach your kids to be like this? Are you like this at work? In your personal life? Self-centered and stingy?

Civil liberty, is the liberty of men in a state of society, or natural liberty, so far only abridged and restrained, as is necessary and expedient for the safety and interest of the society, state or nation. A restraint of natural liberty, not necessary or expedient for the public, is tyranny or oppression. civil liberty is an exemption from the arbitrary will of others, which exemption is secured by established laws, which restrain every man from injuring or controlling another. Hence the restraints of law are essential to civil liberty.

Yes, WE KNOW, paying bills and taxes for the things you use is a bitch.
no, its paying for the things we dont get to use and others take without asking or even thanking that i have a problem with. if everyone did their ‘fair share’ wed all be better off…. you liberals think everyone else should do the heavy lifting.
you liberals think everyone else should do the heavy lifting.
That’s because you’re the constant victims. You’re ingrates who don’t have a clue as to all the things you take from society. You feel put upon when you have to be forced to pay up for the services you demand. You have this demented idea that you carry the weight of the world. You’re just whiners.
Don’t blame us for your woes. You’re the ones who worship the people at the top so that they pay less and get more. Then you have to pay more. You don’t want the corporations taxed. So you’ll pay more.
