Shelley Duncan Now Ranks Above The Coolest Yankees Ever

Coolest autograph ever…

What’s better is the Boston Herald whining about it.

Even if Duncan ends up with a lackluster career, that autograph is now a bit of baseball history worth much more than just Duncan’s signature would have been.

umm, more like, Shelley Duncan of RED SOX SUCKS!

I agree with others.. He’s a classless jerk!

And we wonder why kids don’t love the game like they used to.  Sorry, Rob, but I can’t imagine the Bambino, Gehrig, or Mantle doing this, or their managers tolerating it if they did.

he’s cool in my book, i am a yankee fan. with the red sox i don’t care about their fans. but johny damon in toronto caught a 3rd out fly ball and while walking back to the dugout some dude stretched out his arm and offered him 20 bucks for the ball, so damon gave him the ball got the money jogged back the other way, found a little kid and gave him the 20 bucks.

but red sox fans can just forget about kindness, specially after their fans tormented sheffield with batteries and then the shove/beer thing.

Pretty immature which is why I’m not going to slam him over it.

Glass houses you know.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Would it have made him feel better to lie? HA ha!

Thank You Rob.  As a partisan Yankee fan in the middle of Sox country (Plymouth, MA) I have been unduly subjected to FAR too much whining about this.  It was a JOKE, and a damn funny one at that.

Classless jerks ?  You mean the kid’s parents that decided this need to go public ?  Definitely.

I cannot get enough of the moral high horses, though.  As if a 10 year old doesn’t tell his friends they suck every 30 seconds.

BTW, he was only pointing out an objective fact anyhow.

You defend a ballplayer by comparing him to a 10 year old, deadrody?  As if one’s behavior is defensible if it’s better than that at a typical elementary school?

I think next, we’ll start measuring maturity by the behavior we see at a typical WWE event or strip bar.  It makes almost as much sense…

Sorry, fellas, but the fact that Sox fans can be jerks too does not excuse Mr. Duncan from being a gentleman while he’s on Mr. Steinbrenner’s dime--for that matter, while he’s playing in stadiums that the taxpayers have subsidized.  You want to kill baseball?  Let him go uncensured for this.

I’ll bet that that particular autograph will become a big money fetcher!

I’m a card carrying member of Red Sox Nation. Not literally, of course.

And even I think that’s funny.

I know some friends who have gone to Yankees-Red Sox games at Fenway who can attest to the language used by some of the kids in this kid’s age range and what Duncan wrote is G Rated.

Sheesh!  Another cult.

Robert Perry,

No disrespect intended, but this isn’t the Murtha thread.

Point well taken, Bat One.  If you’re trying to define adult behavior by comparing it with that of Jack Murtha OR a 10 year old child, you are definitely missing the point.

In other words; Yes, Brandon, I’m sure you’re correct that many young Sox fans are also jerks.  (what would you expect when their parents have reelected Sen. Kennedy how many times?  They’re just acting out their shame!) That doesn’t excuse the boorishness of the players, however.

The problem is that Duncan’s behavior wasn’t so much boorish as knee-slappingly hilarious.

No, it would be hilarious if he did it to an adult.  Maybe.  When done to a child who probably looks up to him, it’s boorish.

Come on; can you imagine Mantle, Ruth, Jackson, Maris, or Gehrig doing this?

Certainly this kind of thing is more “popular” today, but players need to come to terms with the fact that baseball is as much a tradition as it is a sport.  Part with the traditions, and you end up like the Marlins with 400 people showing up for the game.

Riiighhhtt…

And this kid has never been in the stands at Fenway screaming “Jeter Sucks.”

Once again; do we want to live in a world where adults justify their actions by pointing to the misbehavior of children?

Anyone who does really needs to re-read “Lord of the Flies.”

You can’t prove it’s not true.

If it’s any consolation, Robert, I doubt you’ll see this happen, again. I’ll bet Joe Torre probably set the kid straight. Still, I just can’t get that worked up over it.

Now when four punks wearing Yankee hats beat up a firefighter directing traffic in Boston back in June…

And BTW, this isn’t to suggest their behavior is indicative of any significant population of Yankee fans.
