Shameless Politicians

We all know that politicians love naming highways, post offices, bridges and public buildings after themselves. But in South Dakota, politicians are putting their smiling faces on bus stop signs. Witness an example featuring Representative Stephanie Herseth (photo via SD War College):

This raises a number of questions.
First, what happens during the next election? Seems a little unfair that Herseth (and possibly other SD incumbents) get all that face time on public signs at the expense of taxpayers while the challenger doesn’t.
Second, if Herseth is unelected who pays to get her face scraped off all these signs?
Third, why is her face on the bus stop sign in the first place?
Regardless of the answers, this seems like a pretty dumb idea to me. But I guess the egos of our elected officials know no bounds.

    It’s coming from an immature kid who has admitted that he is testing the limits.

    In other words: he’s a loser who has too much time on his hands. He finds us important and wants to bother us. Just ignore him.

    This is one of the things I HATE about Illinois; everyone thinks that their name belongs on everything because they got elected. 2H9 nails it; you want advertising, you pay for it. These things are PUBLIC property, not that of politicians.

    Heh. Mrs. Sandlin is purportedly a Blue dog democrat, according to her web site. I’m confused. I was told that the blue dogs wanted to control government spending and yet, looking at her “On the Issues”, she’s for expanding S-CHIP, farm subsidies, rural high speed internet subsidies, ethanol subsidies, et cetera.
