Sesame Street Bashes Fox News As A “Trashy News Show”

Your tax dollars hard at work:

Last week, in a re-broadcast of an episode that originally aired two years ago, Oscar starts his own news network, GNN (Grouchy News Network). An irate viewer calls in to berate him that the news is not grouchy enough:
“I am changing the channel. From now on I am watching ‘Pox’ News. Now there is a trashy news show.”

Besides the fact that Sesame Street is a kids show and should leave politics alone, the show and public broadcasting in general is heavily subsidized by taxpayer dollars and so should be ideologically neutral.
But it isn’t. As anyone who has ever listened to a few minutes of NPR knows.

I don’t see Sesame street attacking Fox, they just told it like it is. Just as they told kids 2×2=4.

Like I said, Rob didn’t like the reality, but THAT’S the reality, like it or not. The only reason you agree with it, because you liked how they tried to make Obama out to be a terrorist and supported the liars who went after John Kerry.

They do attack journalism and Sesame Street made a reference to it.

Do you have issues with churches indoctrinating children, yes or no?

  • sayanything-9974

My biggest concern is that the voting Dem/Libs will get a negative image of Fox news – It seems they get most of there news while they are learning to count. Timmy Geitner should have paid more attention during the numbers segments. Maybe muppet math is meant to be fuzzy

  • Some Nobody

CNN got parodied in the same “trashy” light as Fox in that segment – not going to defend them? Oh and what is this Sesame Street teaching “ideology” argument? Are you saying Fox really is biased toward conservatives? Also 2hotel9 is right, Oscar likes trashy things, it’s not an insult – he lives in a trash can fer cryin out loud.

  • sayanything-4625

My thought was why you have no problem with a children’s show being an “attack” show but “Pox” News is wrong even though its clearly for adults.

  • sayanything-1714

What was that Carrick said about crying????

I love it…..reality is hard to take…eh Rob?

  • sayanything-4625

Sesame Street is reality? When did this happen?

  • Hanni

Here’s the reality. People who strive to imbed their ideology in children (other than parents)are intellectual cowards.

Yeah, well then you should try going to church. Because that’s all they do, indoctrinate children…..but that’s ok, right? And I am not just talking about religion, they are also indoctrinating them in saving Isreal and making sure to elect politicians who will save Israel.

And further, if you don’t like it, you can change the channel.

Lastly Fox News should also be fair and balanced, and they are not.

Sew the wind, reap the whirlwind.

I have held numerous positions in life where I had an opportunity to unduly influence young minds to political points of view…and didn’t take it. Because that’s not my job. The idea that a children’s show would be taking jabs at news organizations is repulsive. And pathetic.

I’d say you should be ashamed for supporting it, but you have no shame.

  • Hanni

Adults understand that the message is for children who wish to be reporters should learn that it’s more important to be impartial and polite, than to be like POX News….but that message enrages cons, because they like the style of POX News…..attack journalism.

  • sayanything-12

Actually I figure it was Hannitized watching Sesame Street that alerted Rob to this. LOL.

I listen to NPR by the way. They are a lot more balanced than that (except Terri Gross and Diane Rehm). They are at least honest about their POV, just as you are honest about yours.

  • sayanything-2

And I keep telling you, idiot, Oscar calling something trash is NOT and insult. You really REALLY are a f&cking moron, aren’t you sanni.

  • sayanything-1714

Oh, that was actually Kenny who said that…i forgot to block quote it.

I have held numerous positions in life where I had an opportunity to unduly influence young minds to political points of view…and didn’t take it. Because that’s not my job. The idea that a children’s show would be taking jabs at news organizations is repulsive. And pathetic.

You only think that because it was POX News. You know if it was the other way around you could just say turn the channel if you don’t want your kids to watch it.

What ever happened to personal responsibility? Don’t they have a responsibility for their actions?

  • sayanything-4625

As opposed to an “attack” children’s show? What adult watches Sesame Street? My 3 year old son watches it, not me.

  • Hanni

Little dig? It’s a reality that you have to admit to yourself……just because you don’t like the reality doesn’t make it Sesame Streets fault.

  • sayanything-342

NPR couldn’t survive if not for the generosity of capitalists

  • http://usb-wifi.blogspot.com/ openid-11675

Hi..I’m from Indonesian. Sesame street now avaible in commercial TV in Indonesia, program TV is called Jalan Sesama mean that in English is Sasame Street. It’s good program TV for Kids. Thanks Sesame Street.

  • Hanni

Change the channel. You have the option.

  • sayanything-12

    Rob:

But their ideological slant wouldn’t bother me at all…if I weren’t being forced to subsidize them.

They are human beings…there will always be an ideological slant.

So IMO you should either be complaining about why they even exist (regardless of ideology) or not be complaining. ;-)

  • sayanything-2

Hey, gang, that is praise from Oscar, not a slam.

  • sayanything-2

Gang, I already told you, Oscar calling something trash is a COMPLIMENT. I can understand sanni not getting it, he got his weeks worth of meth yesterday and all, but you guys I expected to figure it out.

  • Hanni

Uhem….it’s POX News that is being held responsible for their attack journalism.

Gawd, you are really, reallllly, realllllllly slow, aren’t you Robby?

  • sayanything-12

Greg, don’t tell Hannitized. It’s his favorite news program.

  • Hanni

Well Greg, that’s why I said the message was for children and not adults.

  • Hanni

You mean like if he is a terrorist and is allowing Bill Ayers to control decisions made in the white house???

Maybe POX News should learn that if they don’t attack unfairly, and actually do their job and only ask tough questions they would be rewarded with an interview, like the rest of the normal news channels.

  • sayanything-9974

I think they should just teach the children to sing songs honoring the ‘Dear Leader’ and just stay away from all that political stuff.

  • sayanything-2

sanni has no problem with mentally abusing other people’s children, methhead heartily approves of it.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

No, you dim bulb, pre-school children do not have responsibility for their actions.

  • sayanything-2804

I have held numerous positions in life

true, and Dino can vouch for every one of them.

  • sayanything-2804

Elmo’s the one who taught Herpitized the meaning of the word camp.

And if you want to know why he identifies so closely with Oscar, go over to the Dog Poo thread, he was kind enough to post a link to a picture of the place he was just evicted from.

  • sayanything-2361

It was a funny joke but it’s for adults.

I was going to say it’s just wrong but I think you’re right and it is cowardice and pathetic. Starting indoctrination early is so much easier than teaching critical thinking and having the conversation years later.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Maybe the lesson for kids should be about a presidential administration so paranoid and thin skinned they don’t want to take tough questions.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

And the message being for children somehow makes it better?

How about publicly-funded children’s programming just stay away from politics?

  • sayanything-1317

Here’s the reality. People who strive to imbed their ideology in children (other than parents)are intellectual cowards. I have held numerous positions in life where I had an opportunity to unduly influence young minds to political points of view…and didn’t take it. Because that’s not my job. I’d say you should be ashamed for supporting it, but you have no shame.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

I read NPR’s website more than I listen to their on-air broadcasting (I spend most of my time listening to the station I broadcast on during the day). And their website reporting has a fairly pronounced bias.

But their ideological slant wouldn’t bother me at all…if I weren’t being forced to subsidize them.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Churches are optional. We’re being forced to pay for Sesame Street.

  • spartacus

Judging from preliminary results I’m guessing there’s a disconnect between Sesame Street and Main Street!

  • sayanything-4808

That was remarkably defeatist for you.

We are more than capable of taking ideological weighting into account and strive to eliminate it. Evidently you aren’t aware of the MLA, APA, or other style guidelines which cover the subject of pejorative phrasing and related subjects.

Sesame Street used to be much closer to politically neutral. Sad to see this little dig on behalf of liberals, especially when so many conservatives have children watching their show every day.
