Proving once more that there is no such thing as an “ex” Marine, Rod Robison carries out a mission 48 years after joining The Few and The Proud.

Democrat Congressman Jack Murtha has earned the distinction of being an “ex-Marine.”

True. But Murtha is the exception that proves the rule, as Martin Lloyd Jones used to say!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

Hat tip to ABC News and the MSM for running this.  A fine example of a Marine.

Excluding Oliver North that is..

Eunichized,

Funny you should say that:

Excluding Oliver North that is..

especially so if one is aware that when North is out and about amongst servicemen, and despite his constant reminders to them that he’s just a civilian now, he is invariably addressed a Colonel or “Sir.”

Another of those little clues that your admirable golfing buddies forgot to mention to you…

How’s the surf?

"blackwater"boob,

Must bug you no end that LTCOL North, USMC(ret) won his appeal (with some rather scathing commentary from the appeals court to the trial court).

Funny you should post that, being a “Move On” kinda guy. Surely you are not so ignorant to know that Col. North’s convictions for what was a blatant attempt by a Democrat Congress to criminalize the Executive branch’s foreign policy, were overturned?

But, bob: Thanks for taking the focus off the fine Marine in the story and trying to divert the thread to one of your hobby horses. /sarcasm

His conviction was overturned based on procedural errors. Mainly because he had been granted immunity.  Not on the merits.  So let’s not pretend he did nothing wrong.

Ollie North, traitor to his country.

Q. Do you remember shredding documents during the lunch hour on the 22d, when the representatives of the Attorney General’s office had left for their lunch?

A. I remember shredding documents while they were in there reading documents.

Q. You were shredding them in their presence?

A. Well, I mean, they were sitting in my office and the shredder was right outside and I walked out and shredded documents.

Q. More than a few pieces of paper, right?

A. Pardon?

Q. It would be more than a few pieces of paper.

A. Well, that’s a pretty high-speed shredder. It eats them pretty quick. And I’m not trying to be light about it, but I mean, they were sitting in my office reading and I’d finish a document and say, we don’t need that anymore. I’d walk up and I’d go out and shred it. They could hear it. The shredder was right outside the door.

Q. I’m not trying to be light about it either, but they, you would go up there and take documents that they had finished reading?

A. No, no, no. I want to be very clear. My office, and you’ve now had a diagram of this palatial basement office on the third floor of the old E.O.B. It was up on the wall here somewhere. And the desk that I had was in the corner of my office. And then there was a table about this size and on that table was laid out all of the Iran documents. And I was working at my desk on other things, literally cleaning up files on lots of things. And when I’d finish with a handful of documents, I’d walk up, walk past them, walk out the door, you know where the shredder was, turn the corner, turn on the shredder and drop them in.

Q. And did anyone say to you, colonel what are you doing?

A. No. And I didn’t think anything of it, either. You know, what you’ve got to understand, counsel, is that I didn’t think I’d done anything wrong.

Q. Well I understand that.

North was originally convicted of taking bribes, destroying evidence and lying to congress.  What part of foreign policy is covered by that?

Lestat on May 26, 2008 at 11:29 am

I met Lt.Col North at SF Airoprt some years ago. All I had to say was “Semper Fi Colonel!” He immediately did a reverse march, came and shook my hand and we talked a few minutes about the Corps. He has visited Iraq many times and the Marines there and most former serving Marines, like me, have nothing but respect for him. He is, to quote Hannity, “a great American” and a great Marine. No amount of attacks by the Left will ever change that simple fact, if they don’t like it there is nothing they can do to remove the respect we have for him!

Ollie North, traitor to his country.

rbb’s trolley has finally slipped all the way off the cable! Pity.
Do I have to take you mewling infants to school once again? The Boland Amendment was an attempt by the House of Representative to dictate foreign policy to the Executive branch.

The first Boland Amendment was to the House Appropriations Bill of 1982, which was attached as a rider to the Defense Appropriations Act of 1983,

The House was holding the Executive branch hostage by refusing to pass the defense budget unless they could tie the hands of the Executive with regards to the Contra rebels. The Contras, you may recall, wanted to overthrow the Leftist Sandinistas and Daniel Ortega (the darling of the socialists in Congress!)
So, much of the so called illegalities of Col. North were as a result of the unconstitutional* Boland Amendment.

Col. North was and is a patriot. If lying to Congress to preserve the Commander-in-Chief’s foreign policy is such a bad thing, do you share equal or greater contempt for one who would perjure themself in a Federal court for purely personal gains? (To avoid a lawsuit from Paula Jones.) They did impeach someone for that! Now if I could only remember who ???

*Unconstitutional by definition, not by court ruling. Those who believe in the infallibility of the court, see: Dred Scott.)

Wow! If that wasn’t like getting lectured on ethics by Jack Murtha!

Staying on topic doesn’t mean you can’t respond to other commenters. I invited you to comment on the topic itself.

But then, rather than add an intelligent thought as I invited him to do, Mr. Water-on-the-brain makes a sprinkler comment. *Sigh*

weasel on June 10, 2008 at 04:57 pm

Does anyone know how to contact Rod Robison, the ex-Marine who makes the Blue and Gold Military Star banners from his home?  He was the ABC NEWS Person of the Week back at the end of March this year. His YouTube video is at this site but offers no info......
