Senior Democrats: Government Health Care Bill A “No-Go” This Year
Yesterday Harry Reid was refusing to promise a health care bill by the end of the year. Today unnamed senior Democrat sources were calling the prospect a “no-go.”
Senior Congressional Democrats told ABC News today it is highly unlikely that a health care reform bill will be completed this year, just a week after President Barack Obama declared he was “absolutely confident” he’ll be able to sign one by then.
“Getting this done by the by the end of the year is a no-go,” a senior Democratic leadership aide told ABC News. Two other key Congressional Democrats also told ABC News the same thing.
This is really, really bad news for proponents of government health care. Their efforts are so controversial now that even despite big majorities in both houses of Congress, Obama in the White House and riding the wave of euphoria from his election just 10 months ago they still can’t get a bill passed.
And if this issue pushes to next year, where many fence-sitting Democrats are going to be facing tough re-election races, the issue isn’t gong to get any less controversial. Indeed, it will probably get more-so.
The message for opponents of government health care? Keep their feet to the flames.
