Senator Kent Conrad Declares War On MoveOn.org

If you’re wondering why you’re suddenly hearing liberal Senator Kent Conrad running attack ads on North Dakota’s radio stations targeting pernicious liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org as an “out of state” organization that should stay out of North Dakota politics, this is why:

FARGO — Local members of a liberal advocacy group submitted a report today to Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., pushing the benefits of a public option to health care reform.

The report sponsored by MoveOn.org states that North Dakotans would benefit from the public option by extending coverage to 78 percent of uninsured residents and saving the state’s hospitals more than $37 million a year.

“The facts clearly demonstrate that the public option is the key to lowering the skyrocketing health care costs and expanding access to affordable quality care,” said Kyle Meerkins, one of three volunteers with MoveOn.org in Fargo-Moorhead who submitted the report to Conrad’s Fargo field office.

Last week, Conrad drew fire from MoveOn.org after voting twice against public option proposals presented in the Senate Finance Committee. As an alternative, Conrad has been supportive of regional health care cooperatives.

What’s a bit funny is how these MoveOn.org liberals apparently don’t realize that Conrad’s health care co-ops are basically the same thing as the “public option.”  The public option would be under the direct control of the government, sure, but the co-ops would essentially be the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac of the health care industry.  Co-ops would be entirely controlled by the government and they’d be coupled with the same sort of taxes and regulations that will drive Americans to them like they would have been driven to the “public option” so that the end result is more Americans dependent on government for health care.

Since that’s what these liberals want the final outcome to be, why are they protesting?

Though it is fun to sit back and watch the liberals bash one another for a change.
