Who knew North Dakota’s senior Senator, Kent Conrad, would live in a dumpy 16-apartment complex in North Bismarck?

Apparently this has been the Senator’s official residence (along with his wife, Lucy Calautti) since before 1990. Think the Senator actually lives there? Not bloody likely. The guy who snapped the photo lived there for eight years and never once saw the Senator.

The kicker? Conrad’s brother apparently owns the complex.

I guess Conrad just needed a cheap place to maintain his residency in the state he represents in Washington. Though, it would be kind of nice, as a North Dakotan, to know that my senior Senator spends enough time living amongst his constituency to actually own a real home instead of some empty address kept for official purposes.

    Senator Kent Conrad remains on Capitol Hill because that is where all of the lawmaking takes place.  If he just hung out in ND he wouldn’t be able to help his constituents to the best of his ability.  By the way, North Dakota voters are predominately Republican and yet still re-elect Conrad.  Maybe that is why he was named by Time Magazine as one of the top ten best Senators.

    Kent Conrad went Washingtonian when he broke his promise not to run for reelection unless he balanced the budget.

    The only reason he comes back to North Dakota is to position himself to run for reelection.

    GREAT JOB on the post!!!!! Sen Gaylord (Kent) Conrad {his real name according to Wikipedia} should be ashamed of himself. Instead it appears that he is too ashamed of his state to even live here!

    Such is the arrogance of a Washingtonian insider. Former Senate Majority Leader, Tom Daschle, is enjoying his early retirement by the voters of South Dakota in part because of the ostentatious arrogance of the multi-million dollar DC home he purchased with the earnings of his (GASP!) lobbyist wife Linda.

    At least Senator Conrad’s bogus “residence” isn’t located on the reservation of one of Jack Abramoff’s Indian tribe clients. Now that WOULD be funny.

    I wonder if the utilities at the apartment are in Conrad’s name… or even on for that matter. How about a telephone? Voter registration rolls are open for public inspection in most states. This could be a whole lot of fun… and a whole lot of embarassment for Conrad… before its over. Since before 1990? No kidding!?

    Residency is highly overated.

    Ask Dick Cheney who had to hustle from Tejas to Wyoming to get
    a voter registration card. !2th Amendment stuff.
