Senate Candidate Tracy Potter Refers To Himself As “Keynesian”, “Libertarian Democrat”

He also says his “default position is freedom” in his remarks announcing his candidacy which you can listen to here.
So he’s pro-freedom and libertarian. Except, I guess, when it comes to property owners being able to use their land as they see fit. The National Heritage Area (see all my posts on that subject here) he illegally lobbied for is the exact opposite of freedom. That land designation, which encompasses 4.7 million acres of privately-owned North Dakota property, gives the Northern Plains Heritage Foundation (which Potter was forced to resign from after he became too much of a lightning rod for criticism) $10 million of our tax dollars to develop a “management plan” for the area.
What does a “management plan” developed by a board of unelected liberals who are funded by our tax dollars have to do with freedom? What does it have to do with libertarianism?
Heck, what does a federal land designation foisted upon land owners without any notice or option to opt-out have to do with freedom?
Not a thing. By the way, Potter needs to look up the definition of “oxymoron.” Seriously, a Keynesian libertarian? Give me a break.
Potter’s candidacy is a joke. But I think he and everyone on the left in the state knows that. He’s not a candidate. He’s a place holder sent out into an unwinnable campaign because he’s expendable.

So did KFYR last night in a piece about his announcing his candidacy, and then having a political analyst say that he has a chance because there is an anti-spending, anti incumbency movement all over the U.S., including here.

    That is true, but:

    1) The governor gives popular a new name. I think I read he has the highest approval rating in the country(or one of). Tracy Potter? Not so much. He is going to have lots of stuff to explain, and it will take top place over the governors issues(i.e., spending)

    2) We all know that this state is a huge no over spending in Washington D.C. state, UNLESS it is spending in our state…sigh. Hoeven may be looked at as a big spender here, but he won’t in D.C.

He isn’t going to vote for healthcare, or cap and trade, or the death tax, etc, and those will be easy to support positions here, and I think there will be areas that he will vote against and, while it won’t be popular here, he will be able to explain it well enough to get a pass and grudging support.

    JMO :)

Tracy Potter was put up to this as payback for the way he hung the Northern Plains Heritage Area firmly around Byron Dorgan’s neck. That was going to be one of the big guns aimed squarely at Senator Combover’s re-election bid.

So people understand the joke on Potter , Keynesian means you believe the government through its spending can move the economy. Libertarian is the exact opposite.

Maybe he’s trying to re-define libertarian like the left did with liberal. Or, maybe he has absolutely no clue who or what Keynes is…

Keynes and libertarian are mutually exclusive.

  • robert108

So, you’re still trying to make it about your lying image of me, Rob? Can’t you make an argument for your position? Your mistaken beliefs about me aren’t the subject of this thread, are they?
What’s your argument against prohibition, Rob? Is it on the basis of practicality, cost/benefit, or is it just another of your rigid ideological positions? Do you think it would harm fewer people if there was a movement away from excessive and addictive alcohol consumption? You claim to be against things that are harmful, so what is your affirmative argument for increased drinking?
Any answers, or just crickets chirping from you, as usual?

” He’s a place holder sent out into an unwinnable campaign because he’s expendable.”

Ironic that that shoe which was on Republican candidates’ feet for decades is now on a Democrat’s.

  • sayanything-4124

Snort. It is laughable for him to try and put libertarian next to Keynesian, AND to insert that opinion of himself, in comparison to his actual actions with the National Heritage Area debacle.

    Amazing.

  • robert108

Rob, get help with your ability to read numbers, dude! Do you think it’s a winning argument to misstate my screen name as well as my beliefs and positions? Is that all you’ve got?
    Pretty lame.

  • ec99

I see the Herald has kicked off his campaign with a big puff piece today.

  • sayanything-106

Hoven or Sorum will wipe the mat with this buffoon.

  • robert108

Another disconnect between ideology and reality. Like others, he confuses “liberty” with “license”.

  • farm4money

I think potter believes that a Keynesian is someone from that country where everyone can run real fast ….. and who knows, maybe he will run real fast too ….

(to my leftist friends, this is a joke, even though it is not a very good one)

  • sayanything-43

I hope that the Republicans can institute hearings in the house to expose his perjury after this fall.

  • Brent

It reminds me of Keynes and the New Dealers (who were “Keynesians” long before Keynes wrote his latest change of mind into a book called “The General Theory”) constantly claimed that they were using fascism and socialist welfare measures because they wanted to save capitalism.

  • sayanything-6955

Debates with Potter should be fun to watch. If you can stay awake through them.

  • sayanything-4642

yes, and its fun to see.

  • sayanything-1317

    Again with this argument?

    1. It should be the burden of those who want new laws to defend why we need those new laws. Not on those who oppose the laws.

    2. Despite #1, many of us have indeed taken this challenge and argued against prohibition of substances. Then the person who demands those arguments ignores them, and goes to a new thread where the argument hasn’t been made yet to start the game over.

    It’s boring.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

Maybe we should ask Potter if he’s in favor of prohibition like you are, Big 180.

  • sayanything-1317

Libertarians are usually against government doing much of anything. So it’s really hard to be both Keynesian and libertarian. Kinda like being an anarchist socialist…
