Semtex Theft In France Not Getting A Lot Of Attention

Bob McCarthy notes that a major theft of the explosive Semtex (a popular choice with the world’s terrorists) in France has gone largely unreported in the American media.

You’d think that’d be a pretty significant news story, no?  But then, the media seems rather uninterested in reporting anything to do with the war on terror of late given how inconvenient the issue has become to one Barack Obama.

Gee, semtex was only the explosive used to bring down a 747 over Lockerbie, Scotland.

No biggie, I guess.

Semtx is some really, really nasty stuff.  Malleable, relatively safe to handle, and potent as hell.  If I was a EUro-weenie, I’d be damn worried about now.

This from the writer of the article Rob quotes

First, it caught my attention, because it highlighted news from France that more than 60 pounds of Semtex explosive — and detonators, I might add — are missing from a depot in the suburbs of the city of Lyon

If you read the article in the French press, you will see that the “major” theft was 61 lbs of this “deadly” explosive. And detonators were taken also. Semtex is usually used by demolition crews, so it just may be that a constuction firm took advantage of lax security at the facility to get some. Further the theft may have occurred as long as a week before it was reported. Since when does this become major news for the U.S? Many exciting things happen in Europe that are never reported in the press. Maybe its because we have grown so arrogant that we cannot be concerned with whatever happens in foreign countries unless it directly affects U.S. person/s or policies.

Rob’s statement reflects his sore loser mentality. If McCain was getting all the press, this story never would have seen the light of day. As a matter of fact, maybe one of the reasons that the press did not report the story was to reserve space for news on McCain.
