Second Coat?

I think this cartoon makes an important point. One that should be remembered by every single person who would criticize our military over Haditha deaths.
If the Marines involved in the Haditha incident are guilty it in no way besmirch the fine and honorable service put in by 99.9% of our other troops. Nor should the incident be looked upon as some sort of commentary on the mission in Iraq in general.
Every single war this country has fought has had unfortunate cases of soldiers either making tragic mistakes or outright committing crimes. It is shameful, but it happens. While our military is stocked with some of America's finest, most honest and trustworthy people...sometimes bad apples get in. And sometimes even the best soldier can make a mistake.
What's surprising to me is not so much that our troops may have made a mistake and shot some civilians, but rather that it hasn't happened more given that those guys are fighting an enemy that hides like a coward in among the citizenry and doesn't mind suicide attacks.
I know the reaction from the media/left to the conviction of these Marines involved in the Haditha incident (if they are indeed convicted) will be triumphant peals of anti-Bush, anti-war, anti-military rhetoric, and that is a little sickening. Talk about a slap in the face to the vast majority of our soldiers who are putting their lives on the line for the mission in Iraq and are fulfilling their duty this country honorably.
The left says they support the troops. And they do, I guess, in their own way. Until it's time to break out the tar and feathers, that is.
