Scadenfreud: Kathy Griffin Calls Bristol Palin Fat, Gets Booed Roundly By Military Members
VH1 put on a tribute to America’s military members, and it featured the comedy stylings of Kathy Griffin. Griffin, who at 49 kinda-sorta jokes about being Levi Johnston’s girlfriend, thought the troops would be amused by fat jokes aimed at Bristol Palin.
Turns out the audience wasn’t amused:

“We got two words,” Griffin continued. “BRISTOL … PALIN.” Ah. We see. Kathy was performing in front of a huge crowd of soldiers for ‘VH1 Divas: Salute the Troops.’ (Sun., 9PM ET on VH1). But as soon as she mentioned the dreaded words “Bristol Palin,” the boos started rolling in from the troops. Wait. What are we booing again? Bristol? Kathy’s sailor outfit? … Kathy’s comedy routine?
It turned out that the troops were jeering Ms. Griffin’s routine. “You’re gonna like this,” she continued gamely. “[Bristol is] the only contestant in the history of the show to actually gain weight. … She gained like 30 pounds a week. I swear to God, it was fantastic — she’s like the white ‘Precious.’”
As the cat-calls continued to escalate in volume, Kathy kept on going: “You can boo louder than that!” she said, cupping her hand to her ear. “War is hell,” she concluded. We don’t expect her to receive any sort of medal, but Griffin didn’t abandon her post — she boldly (or foolishly) stood there in the face of angry incoming attacks from the audience.
Making fun of people is central to comedy. We’ve all chuckled as some celebrity or political figure was lampooned by an entertainer, but I think the public if fed up with the left’s hatred of the Palin’s. It’s not funny. It’s just plain mean.
Of course, it’s been a long time since Kathy Griffin was anything remotely like funny.
