Say Anything Podcast #1

I've been toying around with podcasts for the last couple of weeks and, frankly, have become a bit enamored with them. So enamored with them that I thought I might take a shot at doing one myself. So I enlisted the help of Say Anything reader Tom Brusegaard and gave it a shot tonight.

Here are the topics we covered:

  1. The UND Fighting Sioux logo controversy.

  2. Why North Dakota Governor John Hoeven didn't run for the Senate.

  3. The Miers nomination and the effect it has having on the right's base.

  4. The avian flu situation and the talk about giving the President power to deploy federal troops domestically.

  5. The Iraqi constitution and the media reaction to it.

All in all I think it turned out pretty well. Right at the beginning I had some problems with Tom's audio but a quick volume adjustment on his feed fixed that and the rest turned out pretty well. To avoid long distance charges (Tom lives a few hundred miles away from me) we used Google Talk's call feature to communicate. I wasn't sure how it would work out, but I think it turned out pretty well. Serviceable enough for an amateur attempt anyway.

Here's a link to the podcast.

Post your reactions/opinions below if you'd like.

Update:

It should be noted that during the Native American mascot segment of the podcast I stated that the Illini, the mascot for the University of Illinois, is actually a fictional tribe. I was wrong. A mascot for the University of Illinois called Chief Illiniwek is a fictional figure (there is no historical equivalent), but the Illini tribe actually existed. I got to thinking about that as soon as I got done recording the podcast and looked it up to make sure I wasn't confused. Turns out I was confused, so this is my correction.

Do you plan on using the podcast specific feed in WordPress for your future podcasts, or are you going to run these through Feedburner, as well?

I’ve added your feed to PodcastHost using the Feedburner feed, for now, and I’ve made it the “Featured Podcast”. Sounds Great!

There seemed to be serious volume problems, I had to crank all my volume settings. Other than that and what seemed to be a little nervousness at the start, great job!

I’m going to use the podcast specific feed for the podcasts.  I’m going to try and figure a way to use Feedburner on that feed as well.

have you submitted your podcast feed to iTunes?

How do you do that?  I submitted my podcast feed to my iTunes program last night and was able to download the podcast just fine, but I’m not sure if that means I’m in their system or not.

There seemed to be serious volume problems, I had to crank all my volume settings.

Hmm… It plays fine on my system.  Anyone else have this problem?  I know I had a volume problem at the start that caused Tom’s feed to distort, but I fixed that after the first minute or so.  Other than that everything sounded fine on my end.

This is a great format. You should consider at least a weekly broadcast having other political leaders from around the state. Preferably conservatives. You did a great job your first time out. I read you every day, keep up the good work.

[...] And, finally, if anybody is interested I’ve started doing a podcast over on my blog. A podcast is sort of like an internet radio show. I’m doing it with a state representative here in North Dakota and its been a lot of fun so far. We’re doing a new episode tomorrow night, so maybe check it out if you’re interested. I’d be interested in knowing what you all think. [...]
